Stop Smoking Hypnotherapy

Quit smoking Cigarette smoking is the greatest single cause of illness and premature death in the UK. Worldwide the number is far greater. Tobacco is killing around seven million people each year, while almost one million deaths are due to non-smokers being exposed to secondhand smoke. Despite nearly 100,000 people in the UK dying from smoking-related illnesses each year, one in five adults are still regular smokers. Though, it seems things are changing. 40 years ago, 51% of men and 41% of women were smokers. These rates have more than halved, with 17% of UK adults smoking, and 59% saying they have never smoked. Quitting smoking is a big challenge for a person to face, and they will often need more than just willpower. There are many options now available; from campaigns such as Stoptober and local support groups, to medications. For many people, hypnotherapy is an effective solution. Fear and Phobia Treatment

Phobia and fear From an unusual fear of crowded locations or open areas to a chronic fear of spiders or social situations, many of us have phobias or above-common fears which reason undue anxiety and can even bog a person down in the manner they behave or lead their lives. Avoidance A phobia is a debilitating fear of an object, place, state of affairs, feeling or animal. Phobias are more common than fears. They develop as an exaggerated or unrealistic feel of risk about a state of affairs or object. If a phobia become’s excessive, people tend to organise their lifestyles around keeping off that issue that’s causing them anxiety, as well as restricting their day-to-day existence. Many people have a phobia, it is an intense fear or feeling of anxiety that occurs only in certain situations. The fear may be of something rational or irrational and many people can live with their fears but others find them quite debilitating and restricting as their life may become dominated by the precautions they take to avoid certain situations. Social anxieties such as fear of: blushing, business meetings, confrontation, criticism, public speaking, rejection, stuttering, sweating, being alone will impact on work and relationships. Travel fears such as fear of flying, driving, bridges, public transport, public toilets, dentists and heights are very common and can cause such inconvenience and restrictions to the individual, their work and their family. When a person has a phobia, they will often shape their lives to avoid what they consider to be dangerous. The imagined threat is greater than any actual threat posed by the cause of terror. Phobias are more serious than simple fear sensations and are not limited to fears of specific triggers. Despite individuals being aware that their phobia is irrational, they cannot control the fear reaction. Symptoms A person with a phobia will experience the following symptoms. They are common across the majority of phobias: a sensation of uncontrollable anxiety when exposed to the source of fear a feeling that the source of that fear must be avoided at all costs not being able to function properly when exposed to the trigger acknowledgment that the fear is irrational, unreasonable, and exaggerated, combined with an inability to control the feelings A person is likely to experience feelings of panic and intense anxiety when exposed to the object of their phobia. The physical effects of these sensations can include: sweating abnormal breathing accelerated heartbeat trembling hot flushes or chills a choking sensation chest pains or tightness butterflies in the stomach pins and needles dry mouth confusion and disorientation nausea dizziness headache Types of phobia The most common specific phobias include: Agoraphobia: This is a fear of situations from which it would be difficult to escape if a person were to experience extreme panic, such being in a lift or being outside of the home. It is commonly misunderstood as a fear of open spaces but could also apply to being confined in a small space, such as an elevator, or being on public transport. People with agoraphobia have an increased risk of panic disorder. Claustrophobia: Fear of being in constricted, confined spaces Aerophobia: Fear of flying Arachnophobia: Fear of spiders Driving phobia: Fear of driving a car Emetophobia: Fear of vomiting Erythrophobia: Fear of blushing Hypochondria: Fear of becoming ill Zoophobia: Fear of animals Aquaphobia: Fear of water Acrophobia: Fear of heights Escalaphobia: Fear of escalators Tunnel phobia: Fear of tunnels How the brain works during a phobia Some areas of the brain store and recall dangerous or potentially deadly events. The amygdala in the brain is thought to be linked to the development of phobias. If a person faces a similar event later on in life, those areas of the brain retrieve the stressful memory, sometimes more than once. This causes the body to experience the same reaction. In a phobia, the areas of the brain that deal with fear and stress keep retrieving the frightening event inappropriately. Treatment A phobia becomes diagnose when a person begins organising their lives around avoiding the cause of their fear. It is more severe than a normal fear reaction. People with a phobia have an overpowering need to avoid anything that triggers their anxiety. Clinical hypnosis is a real therapy in which you learn how to use the power of your mind to help make positive changes that you’re in control of. During hypnosis, you’ll focus on relaxation and letting go of distracting thoughts. You may become more open to specific suggestions and goals, such as ridding yourself of a phobia or fear. In a hypnosis session, which usually lasts 50-60 minutes, you will likely start by focusing on your breathing to help you relax. Anxiety Treatment

Treatment for anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are much more than just nervousness and worrying. They can be quite terrifying as fear about things that other people wouldn’t give to much thought to magnify. Many people with anxiety disorders understand that their thoughts become irrational, but they still can’t stop them. When you get anxious, you tend to have this pervasive thinking about some worry or some problem and you feel bad about it. Then you feel like you’ve failed, and you move to depression. Anxiety is a natural human emotion It’s normal to feel a level of anxiety or to get a little anxious at times. Maybe when preparing for a special event or exam or when entering into unfamiliar situations, such as a new job. Sometimes a certain amount of stress is needed for you to perform well and do your best. If anxious feelings grow to an excessive level and are not dealt with, they can become a problem. If you’re suffering from high levels of anxiety you know how debilitating it can be. Anxious feelings can stop you from enjoying your life. They can limit you in your career. Can stop you sleeping and relaxing. Even cause actual physical symptoms resulting in illness, if they are allowed to get out of hand. Anxiety can show up in our lives in different ways and forms but is often characterised by feelings of fear and worry about current or future situations, although often these feelings can be triggered by memories of a past event. Anxiety can cause the following symptoms; panic, fear, and uneasiness, sleep problems, not being able to stay calm and still, cold sweaty or numb or tingling hands or feet, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, dry mouth, nausea, tense muscles, dizziness. What are the causes. Causes of anxiety can vary from external factors such as worry about work, study, money. Even stressful relationships or a traumatic event in our past can trigger anxiety. Anxiety causes can also be the possible side effects from medication or hormonal changes, during PMT (pre-menstrual tension) or the menopause for example. How Can Hypnotherapy Help Resolve Anxiety ? Research has shown that hypnotherapy can help relieve stress, fear, and anxiety. It can also be used to help in coping with the symptoms of panic disorder. While under hypnosis, a person with panic disorder may be guided to bring attention to coping with specific symptoms and overcoming limiting behaviours. For example, once the hypnotist has helped the client become relaxed, he may ask the person to focus on their panic attacks. The person will bring awareness to the physical sensations, emotions, and cognition’s associated with their attacks, such as chest pain, shaking, and fear. The hypnotist will use calming words of encouragement, like “You feel safe despite your discomfort” or “You are in control of your anxiety.” The hypnotist may also suggest ways to cope with these feelings, such as “Taking deep breaths during your panic attacks makes you feel calmer.”Hypnotherapy can also be used in the treatment of agoraphobia, a common condition for people with anxiety disorder’s. Agoraphobia involves a fear of having anxiety attacks under restrictive circumstances, including crowds or while driving. Hypnotherapy can allow a person to learn how to remain relaxed while facing these fears. The hypnotist can help the person focus on getting past their anxiety and suggest ways to remain relaxed when in feared environments. Hypnotherapy can help a person with anxiety disorders, improve their self-esteem and overcome negative thinking. How We Can Help You We see a lot of clients suffering anxiety. Anxiety can be quite easy to resolve if you seek out the right kind of help. There are many proven techniques to get this system back in sync. These are generally hypnotherapy based practices like clinical hypnosis and Nuero linguistic programming. These help heal the sub conscious mind that needs just some gentle re clarification. Any experienced clinical hypnotherapist will cure Panic attacks in 1 to 3, 1 hour sessions with high success rate. Gambling Addiction Treatment

GAMBLING ADDICTION COUNSELLING Gambling has one of the highest suicide rates in the world Gambling is one of the most destructive habits in the world. It doesn’t destroy your liver. It won’t give you lung cancer. Even after a real bad run of bad luck. You can be reasonably sure that you won’t be stretchered away, having expired with a mouth full of vomit. No harm done. It’s only money that is the belief Experts of addiction point out that problem gamblers are subject to is a mix of messy contributing factors and associative disorders. “We’ve known for along time that problem gambling is not a standalone issue,” says Dr. Rachel Volberg, President of Gemini Research, which conducts gambling-related studies. “Problem gamblers are likely to have other substance abuse issues, usually alcohol and tobacco. Depression and anxiety are also prevalent among problem gamblers.” In terms of the gambler’s tendency toward suicide, however, these factors serve only to cloud the issue. The most reliable killer of people with gambling problems can be summed up in a single word: debt. Because once negative equity enters the picture, gambling addiction moves into a category of its own. Research There is now plenty of research that shows more scientific evidence for hypnotherapy than any other complementary therapy by using hypnosis. Enough studies have now accumulated to suggest that the inclusion of hypnotic procedures may be beneficial in the management and treatment of a wide range of conditions and problems encountered in the practice of medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy. Life throws many surprises at us and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation. With my coaching sessions, you’ll learn about acceptance and how to exert your power of choice over whatever life may throw at you. Relationship counselling is the process of counselling parties of a relationship in an effort to recognise it. Troublesome differences and repeating patterns of stress can put upon a relationship and damage it. Marriage Guidance are old term’s and refer’s to either or some combination of the above. Hypnotherapy services

Clinical hypnosis is a real therapy in which you learn how to use the power of your mind to help make positive changes that you’re in control of. During hypnosis you’ll focus on relaxation and letting go of distracting thoughts. You may become more open to specific suggestions and goals such as lowering pain, reducing anxiety or ridding a phobia. Getting treated with Hypnotherapy Hypnotherapy can be performed by a certified hypnotist or qualified mental health professional who has trained in this approach. The overall hypnotherapy experience can vary from person to person. Hypnotherapy helps build self-awareness and overcome unwanted behaviours. Often treatment will involve helping the patient learn techniques which allows the client to use these in an ongoing way. Studies show that hypnosis can treat everything from chronic pain to poor study habits. Chances are it can work for you too. A hypnotic trance is not therapeutic in and of itself. Specific suggestions and images fed to clients in a trance will profoundly alter their behaviour. They learn a new way they want to think and feel and lay the groundwork for powerful changes in their future actions. The deep relaxation of a hypnotic trance is also beneficial as many illnesses both psychological or physical are aggravated by anxiety and muscle tension. Research over the last 40 years shows that hypnotic techniques are safe and effective. A growing number of studies show that hypnotherapy can not only ease the pain of childbirth as well as aid in quitting smoking. But hypnotherapy has proven beneficial in improving concentration and study habits as well as relieve phobias, and serve as anaesthesia all without drugs or side effects. Psychotherapy services

Depression is a common mental disorder that causes people to experience depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. Depression is different from feeling down or sad. Unhappiness is something which everyone feels at one time or another, usually due to a particular cause. A person experiencing depression will experience intense emotions of anxiety, hopelessness, negativity and helplessness, and the feelings stay with them instead of going away. Depression can happen to anyone. Many successful and famous people who seem to have everything going for them battle with this problem. Depression also affects people of every age. Half of the people who have depression will only experience it once but for the other half it will happen again. The length of time that it takes to recover ranges from around six months to a year or more. Living with depression is difficult for those who suffer from it and for their family, friends, and colleagues. It can be difficult to know if you are depressed and what you can do about it. Depression and Anxiety The disorders are two sides of the same coin. Over the past couple of years, clinicians and researchers alike have been moving toward a new conclusion: Depression and anxiety are not two disorders that coexist. They are two faces of one disorder. The coexistence of anxiety and depression-called co-morbidity in the psych biz-carries some serious repercussions. It makes the course of disorder more chronic, it impairs functioning at work and in real world. Anxiety is a kind of looking to the future, seeing dangerous things that might happen in the next hour, day or weeks. Depression is all that with the addition of ‘I really don’t think I’m going to be able to cope with this, maybe I’ll just give up.’ It’s shutdown marked by mental, cognitive or behavioural slowing.” Further, anxiety and depression share an avoidance coping style. Sufferers avoid what they fear instead of developing the skills to handle the kinds of situations that make them uncomfortable. Often enough a lack of social skills is at the root. Grief and Bereavement Therapy

Grief and bereavement are natural and losing someone in our lives is a deeply personal event – one that has the potential to affect us in many ways. Whilst most of us will share the same range of emotions and reactions through our grief, this isn’t always the case. But one thing that is certain, is that simply ignoring the pain and hoping it will go away doesn’t lessen the grief. If you keep feelings buried, it can make it a lot harder to eventually deal with the trauma and lead to deep-rooted heartache. Of course, there is no textbook way to deal with grief, but if you are finding it difficult to deal with bereavement or loss, there are a number of things you can try to aid the grieving process. If the bereavement is a relative, it can often be difficult to turn to another family member for support – you can feel pressure to remain strong, to support them . If this is the case, or if you feel genuinely uncomfortable in talking about it to others, try writing your feelings down. Exploring your emotions in a journal or blog can be just as effective – and you can choose whether or not you share it with anyone. How can hypnotherapy help with grief? Grief is not just feeling sad – there are so many other symptoms of grief that can make life very difficult. Issues such as anxiety, insomnia and depression can arise as a result of grief. You may also experience physical symptoms of grief – loss of appetite, weight loss or weight gain, sickness, fatigue or sleeplessness. Hypnotherapy is a popular treatment option which can give you positive suggestions to help cope with these issues – as well as many other symptoms you might be experiencing through your grief. It can reduce feelings of guilt and blame, and help you to find ways of coping in the future. To find out more about how we can help you, just call us on 01784 392449

Removing the fear and letting you be happy again. Why do panic attack’s happen: People who suffer panic attacks would of normally experienced a previous bad experience or trauma of some kind. Causes of panic attacks can vary from external factors such as worry about work, study or money. Even stressful relationships or a big traumatic event their past. They can also be caused by the possible side effects from medication or hormonal changes, during PMT or menopause. Sufferers will be hiding or working around their true feelings and emotions. This causes their fight or flight decision making decision to work out of calibration resulting in adrenaline kicking in at an inappropriate time. Adrenaline kicking is is a normal and needed part of human functionality that serves as the fight or flight emotional make up of every normal person. It is there to serve the purpose of , that if a danger presents itself we arm our self mentally & physically to fight that danger or run from it. We have to make a split second decision subconsciously on which of those two courses of actions to take. Treatment for panic attack’s Research has shown that hypnotherapy can help relieve panic and anxiety attack effectively. It is also be used to help in coping with the symptoms of panic disorder. While under hypnosis, a person with a panic disorder may be guided to bring attention to coping with specific symptoms and overcoming limiting behaviours. Clinical hypnotherapy is one of the most effective ways to cure panic attacks. Any experienced clinical hypnotherapist will cure panic attacks in 1 to 3, 1 hour sessions with high success rate. The hypnotist can help the person focus on getting past their phobias and suggest ways to remain relaxed when in feared environments.Hypnotherapy can help a person with panic disorder improve self-esteem, overcome negative thinking, and manage troublesome symptoms. Once the hypnotherapist has helped the client become relaxed, he may ask the client to focus. The client will bring awareness to the physical sensations, emotions, and cognition’s associated with their attacks such as chest pain, shaking, and fear. The hypnotist will use calming words of encouragement, like “You feel safe despite your discomfort” or “You are in control of your panic.” The hypnotist will also suggest ways to cope with these feelings, such as “Taking deep breaths during your panic attacks and this makes you feel calmer.” Hypnotherapy will also help the resolution of agoraphobia, a common condition for people with panic disorder. Agoraphobia involves a fear of having panic attacks under restrictive circumstances, including crowds or while driving. Hypnotherapy can allow a person to learn how to remain relaxed while facing these fears. Stress Management

STRESS MANAGEMENT Stress management Stress is a natural, though sometimes unwanted or irrational, emotion that everybody experiences from time to time. Stress experts describe the emotion as a primary natural emotion. Which has evolved as a way of surviving and protecting yourself from what is considered a wrong doing. Some common triggers for stress include: Grief and/or sadness, loss of a family member, friend or other loved one. Rudeness, poor interpersonal skills and/or poor service. Tiredness, since people may have shorter tempers and be more irritable when tired. Hunger. Injustice: for example infidelity, being bullied, humiliated or embarrassed, or being told that you, or a loved one, has a serious illness. Sexual frustration. Money problems and the stress associated with debt. Some forms of stress, unrealistic deadlines and things beyond our immediate control such as being stuck in traffic. A feeling of failure or disappointment. Becoming angry as a result of taking drugs or alcohol, or when withdrawing from such substances. Having a crime committed against you or a loved one: theft, violence, sexual offences but also more minor things such as a feeling of being treated inappropriately. Being either physical or mentally unwell, being in pain or living with a serious illness can lead to feeling angry. When we are angry, our bodies release the hormones adrenaline and cortisol, the same hormones released when we encounter stress. As a result of these releases in hormones our blood pressure, pulse, body temperature and breathing rate may increase, sometimes to potentially dangerous levels. This natural chemical reaction is designed to give us an instant boost of energy and power and is often referred to as the ‘fight or flight’ reaction. This means that the body and mind prepare for a fight or for running away from danger. However, people who get angry often cannot manage their anger effectively and can become ill, just as stress that is left unresolved may make you ill. Our bodies are not designed to withstand high levels of adrenaline and cortisol over long periods or on a very regular basis. Some of the health problems that may occur as a result of being angry regularly or for long periods of time can include: Aches and pains, usually in the back and head. High blood pressure, which can, in severe cases, lead to serious complaints such as stroke or cardiac arrest. Sleep problems. Problems with digestion. Skin disorders. Reduced threshold for pain. Impaired immune system. Stress can also lead to psychological problems such as: Depression. Reduced self confidence. Eating disorders. Alcoholism. Substance abuse. Self-injury. Sexual problems It should be clear, therefore, that, anger can be detrimental to health. If anger is (or becomes) a problem should be managed. Hypnotherapy for Stress Hypnotherapy can help those with Stress management problems in several ways. The initial aim of the hypnotherapist will be to understand the root cause of your anger. As previously mentioned, anger management problems often stem from past experiences. These experiences can shape your behaviour and belief system. So while you may think another person or situation is causing your anger, it may well come from yourself. Once this is understood, your hypnotherapist can begin work changing this. To do so, your hypnotherapist will work on a conscious and unconscious level to help change your negative thought processes. Doing this may involve relaxation techniques and suggestions from your hypnotherapist to help control your anger. The hope is that this will change your reaction to anger triggers. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and angry, you should feel calmer and more relaxed. Feeling calmer in stressful situations helps you to think more clearly so you can react in a more appropriate way. Stress management hypnotherapy can also help with some of the symptoms of anger. For example, if you are suffering from anxiety, stress or depression hypnotherapy can be helpful. The number of anger management hypnotherapy sessions you’ll need will depend on your individual circumstances. It is likely that your hypnotherapist will teach you some self-hypnosis techniques and relaxation tips. You can use these at home when you feel angry or stressed to help you control your anger in the long-term. Hypnotherapy For Pain Relief

Hypnosis for pain Therapies that are mind-body linked are often recommended for those dealing with long-term pain. Stress and anxiety are common side effects of pain and can even make the sensation feel worse. The way the mind responds to pain also links to the perception of physical sensations. Helping to reduce anxiety and stress and change the thought patterns related to pain can therefore make a huge difference to pain perception. For this, many opt for hypnotherapy. When you are under hypnosis you focus on relaxation and letting go of distracting thoughts. This temporarily tunes out the conscious part of your mind, opening you up to the power of suggestion. At this point your hypnotherapist can make suggestions to encourage pain relief. Most hypnotherapists will also give post-hypnotic suggestions, allowing you to carry out self-hypnosis after your sessions end. Rather than convincing you that your pain doesn’t exist, hypnosis for pain aims to manage any fear and anxiety you may have relating to your pain. It also helps to reduce stress and relax the nervous system to help it become less reactive to pain. Hypnotherapy for pain also refocuses your mind away from the pain and onto something more pleasant. For example, many hypnotherapists will ask you to imagine that you’re somewhere nice, like a beach. Using visualisation techniques you may be asked to describe the place in more detail. Thinking about what the sea looks like, the warmth of the sun and the feeling of sand between your toes will help to distract you from your pain. The nature of hypnotherapy means it may not work for everybody. However, it is a natural therapy with no side effects, so it is certainly worth trying. Many people say it is an effective tool to use as part of their chronic pain management plan. The number of sessions you’ll need will depend on your individual circumstances, however hypnosis usually lasts between 2 or 4 sessions for those it is going to work for. ANOREXIA AND BULIMIA TREATMENT

Anorexia nervosa is a serious mental health condition. It’s an eating disorder where a person keeps their body weight as low as possible. People with anorexia usually do this by restricting the amount of food they eat, making themselves vomit, and exercising excessively. The condition often develops out of an anxiety about body shape and weight that originates from a fear of being fat or a desire to be thin. Many people with anorexia have a distorted image of themselves, thinking they’re fat when they’re not. Anorexia most commonly affects girls and women, although it has become more common in boys and men in recent years. On average, the condition first develops at around the age of 16 to 17. Read more about the causes of anorexia. Signs and symptoms of anorexia People with anorexia often go to great lengths to hide their behaviour from family and friends by lying about what they’ve eaten or pretending to have eaten earlier. Signs someone may have anorexia or another eating disorder include: missing meals, eating very little, or avoiding eating any fatty foods obsessively counting calories in food leaving the table immediately after eating so they can vomit taking appetite suppressants, laxatives, or diuretics (a type of medication that helps remove fluid from the body) repeatedly weighing themselves or checking their body in the mirror physical problems, such as feeling lightheaded or dizzy, hair loss, or dry skin Anorexia can also be associated with other psychological problems, such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, alcohol misuse, and self-harm. Bulimia Bulimia is an eating disorder and mental health condition. People who have bulimia go through periods where they eat a lot of food in a very short amount of time (binge eating) and then are deliberately sick, use laxatives (medication to help them poo) or do excessive exercise, or a combination of these, to try to stop themselves gaining weight. Men and women of any age can get bulimia, but it’s most common in young women and typically starts in the mid-to-late teens. Symptoms of bulimia Symptoms of bulimia include: eating very large amounts of food in a short time, often in an out-of-control way – this is called binge eating making yourself vomit, using laxatives or doing an extreme amount of exercise after a binge to avoid putting on weight – this is called purging fear of putting on weight being very critical about your weight and body shape mood changes – for example, feeling very tense or anxious These symptoms may not be easy to spot in someone else because bulimia can make people behave very secretively.
