Winterthur is a beautiful place to visit, walk around and enjoy the wonderful landscape and the mansion is spectacular!
Loved it! The tour was very informative and the grounds were beautiful!
We took the house tour. Our guide was Molly and she was very knowledgeable about the home, it’s furnishings and history. She did an excellent job. Beautiful grounds and the Crown exhibit was fabulous. A very enjoyable day . More...
The grounds are bucolic! You can walk through fields, woods, and gardens in quiet solitude. It is my go to walking location when the meadow trails are wet and muddy at Longwood Gardens. The Museum is fabulous as well.

I've been to Winterthur many times, but today was special. several friends joined my family to celebrate my daughter's 4th birthday at the Enchanted Woods. A bevy of little ones and their mommas had a wonderful time. You might not know that Winterthur allows picnics on the grounds, but its perfect for a simple birthday party! More...

I bought a membership this year. it's been absolutely great. I love going over there and walk in the various Garden pass. it's always beautiful. The Crown exhibit is awesome.
Went to see the "Costuming the Crown" exhibit. it was first rate. Then toured the house which was amazing. Had a wonderful tea at the cottage, then hiked the grounds/ gardens. Enjoyed immensely.
Fabulous exhibit on “The Crown”
Beautiful and serene garden
My husband and I really enjoyed our day at Winterthur. So much to see and explore. Would highly recommend a visit.
Always wonderful and beautiful. So grateful that Mr. DuPont gave this to us to enjoy. It feeds your aesthetic hunger.
Beautiful and gorgeous! The intro tour and garden tram were very informative. Lovely place.
Recently had a motorcoach tour to Winterthur and my entire group loved the day's activities, the ability to enjoy the gardens on your lovely tram with very knowledgeable driver/guide, tthe regular shuttle busses for a quick access to.from the Visitor Center and the Estate Home. More...
I only visited the grounds for Antiques roadshow. But the lawns and gardens we could see were gorgeous. Someday I will return to your the house
I'd say mind blowing if you are into Americana.
Fantastic! Beautiful! Want to come back!
It was great everyone was friendly, very organized. Beautiful place to have the roadshow. I’ve been to Winterthur many times and have always had a a wonderful experience
I visited yesterday and had a great time. Loved the house tour and the Crown exhibit but my favorite part was the tram ride through the gardens and all the greenery!
Michelle Meighan Chiancone
It was a very beautiful and informative tour
Beautiful grounds and gardens and the mansion tour is lovely. Plus had the added bonus of seeing the exhibit of costumes from The Crown!
Wonderful beautiful loved it
Mary Alice Peeling
The costumes from The Crown are fabulous! Had a great visit today. We also enjoyed the garden team tour.
Different and individualistic. Based on green.
Beautiful gardens and staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. At admissions they organize everything so that you can catch a guided tram tour through the gardens before taking a guided tour of the home. All of this is included with the general admission price. They seem to have a little inferiority complex with Longwood gardens and I found the obsession with the "follies" to be a bit strange, but overall I liked it. Do bring your own bottled water though because it was ridiculously expensive, more than buying bottled water at Disney World. Additionally, something should be done about the horrible musty/mildew smell that greets you upon walking into the welcome center. More...
As Always just fantastic!
Interesting stuff. Our tour guide Mike was really passionate about the museum and the people who lived in it. We appreciated him taking some extra time with us because we were the last tour of the day.
Martha E. Anderson
This was my fourth visit. Stunning as always. The Fringe trees were blooming and the smell is amazing. The peonies were also blooming. The Crown display was gorgeous! So very very with the trip! More...

The gardens are beautiful and the staff are knowledgeable
Beautiful grounds.. the trams and shuttle are a wonderful convenience when your feet get tired! The staff is welcoming and helpful, and seem to truly love being part of this amazing estate!
great place beautiful views
This was my first visit and I loved the museum and all that the tour offers. The staff were personable, friendly, so knowledgeable and funny!! The costumes from the Crown Exhibit was exquisite. It was a little confusing about touring the mansion we only saw two floors and the Gardens are magnificent. I can’t wait to go back! Worth the trip! More...
Love it. Would love to live there
All of it the house and the gardens are so beautiful!!

Beautifully done!! wpuld recommend it to everyone!!
An overcast day, but lovely for walking about and taking photos. A magnificent place especially in May with springtime flowers.

It's a beautiful place with alot of history. I loved it!
Beautiful gardens and amazing home tour. Greatest collection of Americana anywhere.
Very nice tram tour followed bt a walk thru museum tour, which changes seasonally. Also 2 or 3 different tours to choose from.large gift shop. With much to choose from. More...
The gardens and estate were stunning! We didn’t have much time to explore since the estate closes at 5 and we got there at 3:30 but we had a blast! You can definitely spend an entire day there exploring the gardens and museums! Something to note is they do give discounts for coming at the time we did and they offer other discounts too, including student discounts. Winterthur has something to offer for all ages, and is kid friendly with a special enchanted forest area that is super cute and your kids would love! We didn’t have time to explore the museum buildings so we purchased the tickets for the enchanted garden which was $15 each with the discount, full price would be $20. The place offers wedding packages too, and you can find that information on their website. They have plenty of paved areas although not all areas are, they have plenty of public bathrooms which they keep pretty clean too. There is a restaurant there as well. More...
This is an amazing garden and museum. The gardens are very natural, just like walking through the woods. We were there April 20. The redbuds were beautiful! The driver on the tram tour gave a great introduction to the garden and the DuPont's. The tour of the house was very interesting. Lots of antique furniture and architecture. It's fascinating to imagine how these fabulously rich people lived in this gigantic house. Skip Longwood and come here. More...
An awesome experience Beautiful gardens and house

Love, love, love Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library!! We did the Yuletide tour of the mansion and again just recently for Spring. So, so beautiful!! The gardens are breathtaking, especially in Spring when everything is just blooming. We attended the exhibit of the costumes from the series, “The Crown.” So amazing!! We purchased a membership to Winterthur, and we fully intend to return often. Thank you for this wonderful experience!! More...
Loved my 1st visit. The people who work there really enjoy their work. It was delightful. I found it very intriguing. Noting the French artwork, as the children and adults in the pictures appear happier than the early American or English people. Fascinating hearing about how the building was structured over time. delightful. More...

This is a don't miss destination. Beautiful gardens, incredible architecture, peaceful location.
Easter Sunday was perfection at Winterthur. Spring was everywhere. Thousands of daffodils, tulips, blooming cherry trees. Even the wisteria was starting to show off its hanging blossoms. The exhibition of the costumes for the Netflix series The Crown was the perfect show for me. I loved the series and am a fan of historical dramas. I purchased some plants in the garden shop. Solomon Seal plants and a blooming Lenten Rose. More...
We went to see the Crown costume exhibit and I was floored by the beautiful building and gardens. One visit wasn't enough to see everything.
Wonderful high tea with impeccable service.
Delightful & informative. Always a good visit!
Had fun exploring the Enchanted Wood. Great kids area. April is the perfect time to go! Everything there is so gorgeous!

Jennifer Mears Arrigo
Spring has arrived at Winterthur. The March Bank is blooming as the beautiful gardens awaken after a long winter. “Costuming The Crown” opens on March 30th and it is a must see!
The March Bank is beautiful in the spring
Fascinating. Our tour group was small, the guide interesting and engaging. Great experience.
Winterthur is a must see in the Brandywine Valley! Impeccably manicured and well maintained gardens seem boundless here! A large variety of ponds (with koi and frogs!), plants, flowers, and interesting structures (gazebos, trellises, huts, etc.) are dotted throughout the vast grounds which are excellent for pictures. A great place for a day trip with the family. The Enchanted Woods is very whimsical and takes you into a magical fairy garden atmosphere. The Touch-It Room is a huge hit with the little ones as they immediately gravitate towards the themed items typically found in an American Colonial house all of which can be handled by kids! The museum (a former DuPont Mansion) is also stunning during their Yuletide event which is complete with themed Christmas trees and period furniture. The volunteers are friendly and well-informed, too. A great experience for adults and kids alike! More...
Everything is stunning - always!
Very lovely place. Can’t wait for weather to warm up so I can hike the trails.
My husband and I have been members for more than 20 years. He proposed to me in the Bristol Summerhouse. We live in NJ but visit Winterthur at least twice a year. It is a special, magical place. Duncan Pike is the best! More...

Christmas at Winterthur is always beautiful and different each year.
Beautiful house. Christmas decorations are very nice.
Great yuletide tour. Excellent job changing it up.
Boy!! To see how them Duponts lived back in the day was something!! I took the self guided tour and found a lot interesting.
Isabel M Albuquerque
A beautiful estate especially at Christmas with all of the wonderfully themed rooms and trees.
So far is one of the MOST AMAZING museum that i have visited so far! The garden is wonderful and huge, one could spend a whole day walking around and be in dreamland. They offer garden tram that is included in your admission ticket and you need to pay an additional $5 fee for the House tour at your option, which is totally worth it because not only the tour guide are friendly but as well they are well trained with abundant knowledge about the house and the Dupont family’s lifestyle. More...
Beautiful grounds - we visited in winter, but Spring must be spectacular. The house is as impressive as any in America, and the DuPont story is fascinating.

A glimpse of wealth & treasures from the past!
Simply amazing and beautiful! Our tour guide was wonderful! Going back for reserved tour!
The Garden tour in the open, cold tram was wonderful- because the guide was so good! She took your mind off of the cold with her flowing information. The Yuletide Tour was one beautiful room after another - as usual -but Christmas settings. Peaceful and beautiful. More...
Beautiful walkways to experience fall foliage in all their glory
Our visit to Winterthur was amazing. But, then again, it always is. Yesterday, we were there to explore the Follies. How quaint! I never even heard of them. My fave: the one that had the connection to the Train Station, called “Mirrored Folly.” We also toured the 5th Floor of the Mansion, which highlighted the Entertaining styles in those early DuPont years. Although we saw the Christmas tour last year, we are thinking about returning again this year, bringing some friends along who have never been to Winterthur. Thank you for proving us with such a beautiful place to visit - a place so very diversified, enjoyable, educational, and just plain fun. Finally, our Tour Guide, Tilly, was most professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. More...

My kids (6 & 8) love spending time in the Enchanted Woods. We go several times a year, and it never gets old. The grounds are beautiful, and the kids and I enjoy just wandering around seeing what new things we can find. I love the quarry garden! One of these days, I’m going to take the house tour - it’s impressive on the outside; I can only imagine what it looks like on the inside. More...
Fabulous doesn’t cover it! We only saw a small fraction of the gardens and can’t wait to go back in the Spring during their prime bloom time.
The greatest collection of American Antiques in the world. Top notch guides and docents. Spectacular gardens and grounds. NOT to be missed if visiting SE PA or Delaware.
Connie Griffith Smith
Had a great time with our granddaughter exploring the Enchanted Woods!

The gardens and property are beautiful!
I thought every thing was great. The hall was nice and well organiza . The food was very good and the staff was very helpful.
Claudia M Smith
Lovely place. Tour was too short to take it all in.
Went to the WHYY tour event. Really enjoyed the open tram showing the estate and gardens. They had a lovely cocktail hour with very reasonably priced beverages and snacks and a great band as well. A very worthwhile evening!
We enjoyed walking the grounds on Sunday and seeing the follies. My two-year old son loved the Enchanted Garden. Unfortuantely, he got four yellowjacket/bee stings as we were approaching the house. The public safety officers on duty (I didn't catch their names) and Dennis the EMT were very helpful in getting us ice, first aid supplies, and taking us to our car. Fortunately he's OK. We were sad to miss the house tour and hope to visit again. More...
Lovely time. My second visit in two different seasons. Always beautiful and informative talks from the docents.

A beautiful estate. Especially enjoyed the tram tour (included in admission) and walking in the gardens. The house tours (also included in admisssion) are spaced too close together...but the house is beautiful. We spent 5 hours there on a rainy day. We loved it, in spite of the rain. More...
As my dad wrote on his page “Yesterday we had the best tour guide I have ever toured with at Winterthur. His name was Tyler and he had such a positive and enthusiastic attitude. He made you feel relaxed and feel as if this was your home. Most of the time we end up with a stuffy old guide. He had a way of pointing out the details of each room and all the little details to tell the rest of the story.” Tyler is an outstanding tour guide! More...
We went on the Garden tour and the introductory tour of the mansion. The tour guide's knowledge of the DuPont family history and how Henry acquired the collection of furniture, textiles, etc was outstanding. The only complaint I had was that it was 100 degrees. Can't they do something about that? Just kidding, it is well worth a visit. I don't think younger children would be interested in the mansion tour though More...
My first visit to Winterthur. Took the guided trolley ride with guide Candi—wonderful. Went on a house tour, also wonderful. Then we walked to special spots on the grounds that we particularly enjoyed. The koi pond was special. Also enjoyed buying a few gifts in the shop. It was raining lightly but that didn’t spoil our adventure. More...

Absolutely amazing day!! We only spent three hours here, but could have easily spent twice that much time exploring. Hope to visit again in the future.
The volunteers and staff were wonderful...helpful, polite, knowledgeable. The museum and grounds are meticulously cared for and the food was fantastic! Can’t wait to return.

Wonderful experience. Stayed for classes and tours, several days. Absolutely beautiful and rewarding.
Wonderful day touring the home and then the gardens - in full Spring bloom. Spectacular and best of all, the rain waited until late in the day.

Very Beautiful and informative. Loved the "living history" and well informed staff to answer all questions! Can't wait to see the gardens in bloom come Spring and Summer!

I have visited this lovely estate twice. First, was in the Fall and I enjoyed walking through the gardens outside and a festival going on- didn’t even make it inside the house! I was so impressed with its beauty. Yesterday, I had a great time with the Yuletide tour. There’s so much history to learn, and the Christmas decorations were just gorgeous! The tour guide was friendly and I like that I was in a small group of 10 so it made it a very personable experience. This is one of my new favorite places to visit, I will be back soon!! More...
It was beautiful out there. Even more beautiful with the snow falling.
It it really nice and beautifully decorated f o r Christmas, But tours are rushed. Felt like they were headed cattle to see how quick you can get thru the house..
A great way to get into the holiday spirit. Great guides and an amazing collection!
Melissa Nolan Waite
Stunningly lovely Christmas displays. Left me breathless and wanting more. And I say that because the tour is given in a very rushed manner. Not time to take pics or really look at the collection. It’s all about moving people on the tours through quick style. And our guide seemed very nervous that one of us would wander off or damage or steal a piece (?) of the collection. That attitude translated through her speech and actions, made you feel unwelcome. They need to rethink how they run their tours. More...

Beautiful grounds & building. Thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Gerald Charles Dickens’ “Christmas Carol!” Please continue to bring him back!
Our third trip for the Yuletide tour. It’s become a tradition for my sister in laws and Mom. A must see!
Toured several years ago and we still remember how breathtaking it was.
This is another area treasure that restores the soul and fill one full of joy! It’s a magnificient place and perfectly complements Longwood!
Yesterday we drove there from Baltimore and the perfect Fall weather made it a great visit for us ! Such a lovely museum, beautiful, informative guided tour, and a great trolley-ride through the estate gardens ! The reflecting pool overlooking the grand mansion was so majestic! The best collection of American furniture anywhere. Not to mention their wonderful library, rare books library, and papers and letters library. I've studied there, taken their wonderful Winterthur Institute and been to many seminars and conferences. I have been so many times that I have had the good fortune to tour every room that is open to tours. I've had personalized tours. I've visited their archived silhouettes. I'm so impressed with the objects, people and knowledge that I encouraged my husband to attend the Winterthur Institute which he just graduated from. It don't get no better than this! More...

I absolutely love Winterthur. It is a magical place. I will return many times and bring my family.
Very nice great day could spent days there wonderful place
My granddaughter and I visited the gardens yesterday. What a special time we had! We spent a looooonnnnng time at the reflecting pool and koi pond. We picked up a backpack at the visitors center (rental is free, you just have to leave your license at the desk) which helped us kick up our visit a notch! She explored with the magnifying glass, binoculars and "bugs eye" glass, and then sketched what she saw with the materials provided. When going with children, be sure to pick up a map of the Enchanted Woods! The easy to follow map is such fun for young explorers! We HAD to start at the fairy ring/mushroom circle because, my granddaughter explained to me, that is the entrance to Fairy World! And indeed, the Enchanted Woods is just that, complete with fairy houses, troll bridge and a special place to sip tea, fairy style! Be sure to pack a lunch/snack, carry water and remember the sunscreen. We'll see you again, soon, Winterthur! More...

I bring my high school interior design students here every year and I could not be more pleased with Winterthur's educational programs. This year they incorporated digital technology into the curriculum, which did wonders to heighten the student interaction and interest. They got to experience the depth of the museum instead of just seeing a bunch of old furniture. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and were able to answer all questions. The students visited the Enchanted Woods after the tour. They happily slept all the way home to New Jersey. Thank you for making this a memorable experience for both teacher and students. More...

Very nice quiet place. Just wish they'd clean up the grassy areas from the birds and also mainly they had transportation to/from the highway since I don't drive (but then again I'm getting my exercise) But at least it's a quiet place to get away from phones groaning CALL CANNOT COMPLETE and other such life stress. Winterthur is a one of a kind American experience. It was absolutely magical. We did the Christmas tour in the evening and I felt like I was transported back in time.
The tour was beautiful and informative. At this time of year, the tram ride was ok, not much to see. The guide, although very knowledgeable, spoke of how it does look "when". Otherwise you saw bare trees and empty meadows. For the mansion tour, it is not very handicap friendly. If you have a disability, there is no place to rest if the need arises. At times, the tours clashed and you needed to wait 'til the previous group moved on as you heard the grumbling that they were being pushed along. You were told you may take photographs, but as you progressed, one of the first displays had a sign "No Photography". I understand the rule of no food, beverages or candies. But there is "No Touching". This is also understandable but does not lend to the curious child. So, I will retain from bringing my grands until they've grown a bit and can appreciate the historical quality and not just the visual beauty. Now, the one big let down was the cafeteria. First trying to determine to cafe' or to cafeteria. When our group entered it was chaos. You line up with tray in hand and then had people breaking in line, picking up plates, bowls and products, and then discarding them as they changed their mind. You had no idea as to what was available until you reached the serving area.Yesterday was hot dogs, paninis or jambalaya. There were supposed to be assorted sandwiches. The case had six sandwiches in it and they were eggplant and squash on focaccia bread. But...I didn't go for the food. More...

The atrium was spectacular with a huge tree decorated with dried flowers from the estate's gardens and many, many poinsettias. Well worth the visit. The staff was genuinely informed and helpful. We took our grandchildren with us to tour the mansion and the enchanted gardens. They absolutely loved it. Not only were they smiling and attentive but they asked a lot of questions of the tour guide. Adults will love it as well and the Christmas season is a great time to visit. More...
Love the 1000 acres, was there almost 20 years ago and again today. Very nice. The air quality going down to basement level is bad, could use some improvements. There were an older lady working at the ticketing , she seems to be ill and was very difficult, not clear what she's trying to tell us..and she seems to be very upset. the lady next to her appear to be older but very kind. I would have given a 5 stars if it wasn't because of this grumpy situation. Hey , please do something. Thank you for a nice tour. More...
Fantastic display of holiday decorations going back over the many years that the DuPont Family resided in Winterthur. A must-see.
While living and working in northern Delaware for many years, Winterthur Museum & Gardens was my favorite place for garden tours, wonderful museum gift shop, and history of the DuPont family.
Really cool place, too much to see in 1 day. Lots of trails. They do a tram tour which takes about 20 minutes and drops you at various spots. We got off at the enchanted woods, cause I knew the kids would love that spot. Has a cute troll bridge, hobbit huts and TONS of benches. We were there for about 3 hours. We did not do the house tour as it was sold out and 2 small kids would have gotten bored with it anyway. More...
Absolutely beautiful way to spend a day! I wish we had packed a lunch to enjoy in the gardens.
I like this place so much I actually volunteer one day a week at it and also a member

Wonderful journey in American history into the lives of the DuPont family and how aristocracy actually lived !
My husband and I have four kids. We have had a family membership at Winterthur for 3 years now and have never had a bad experience! We rarely go into the house but the grounds are beautiful and extensive! We love every visit! More...
Beautiful and spacious. Lots of hidden garden treasures. Lots of walking. Great spots for a picnic lunch. We didn't spend anytime inside, but I recon it was beautiful. I did think $50 for two adults, a 6yr old and 3 yr old was a bit much, but it's ok. We enjoyed it. More...
Can't wait to take the extended house tour. The introductory tour just wet my appetite for more.

We're at a lot of museums in Paris in May. Was not sure how this musuem would be ; let me tell you it is just as great as any museum in. I would encourage everybody to go there and spend amount of time we did like 34 hours it is beautiful. Outstanding.!!!believable !!! More...
The Christmas tour was Exeptional for both adults and children. It is disappointing that the museum and facility is closed January February and March because that is the time in Delaware when people want to visit a museum. Members can still walk the grounds so that is what we do weather permitting! More...

I absolutely love Winterthur for a day out with my 6 and 8 year old high energy boys! Surprised The gardens are a great way to burn the energy up. We jump on the enjoyable tram ride up to the children's garden, grab a snack, discover and play pretend. Then we wind our way down to the museum and I have fun being "waited on" by the cooks and shop keepers in the Children's Touch It Colonial room. Hours burn away NOT watching a video screen! We accidentally arrived on the first tour of the first day of the Christmas tours and it was better than Disney World for us!
A beautiful, inspiring environment. Highly recommended!

The Azalea gardens were stunning this year when we visited on Mother's Day! Even though it rained a bit we had a great time exploring the gardens and loved the soup tureen collection.

I loved it. Went there with my little sister. We spent time in the enchanted forest and walked around the garden. Spent some time at the koi pond. Everything was beautiful and very well kept. We will be coming back in the spring to see the museum! More...
Magnificent place in the Brandywine Valley regional n of Delaware.
Historically and architecturally significant. Extraordinary gardens and wonderful research opportunities.
Having been there and standing on the stairs along with 3 of 4 gorgeous granddaughters at Christmas time was wonderful. I have a beautiful photo hanging in my home of the occasion and I truly treasure it.
A special place. Here you can see an original oil painting from the late 18th century or early nineteenth century of a Native American diplomat, and the actual silver arm bracelet he was wearing in the painting. That H.F. du Pont was thorough. And it is supremely beautiful. More...
