I stayed here during a business trip and it was a refreshing change to living out of hotels. The personalised, family owned element made such a difference. ||||I arrived early, but this was no problem as the lovely couple that own the lodge came to get me checked in with their two equally lovely children entertained me with their conversation and ‘hopping ability’||||I was shown to a beautiful room (which was upgraded to a slightly larger room due to it simply being available) by a lovely lady and her children - and advised on local restaurants to get a nice evening meal, they were so accommodating and I really appreciated this.||||The room was well equipped and I couldn’t fault it. Breakfast was served in the morning by yet another lovely lady and the chef. Full English was delicious. The nicest thing was to be asked how my stay had been - these guys really value the importance of a great stay on their lodge,||||I look forward to my next booking. Thankyou, More...

After an epic journey to Aberdeen and 5 different hotels on 5 different nights, this was just what we needed to decompress on our way back down. Set in a beautiful mature garden complete with brook and weeping willows, Willowbeck is an oasis of calm, comfort and friendliness.|Andrew was a super friendly host who had developed his relationship with us through email and calls even before we arrived so we instantly felt at ease with him which gave it a familiarity that led to feeling quickly settled. |Our room was absolutely wonderful. Brand new, modern, tasteful fixtures and fittings. A massive comfy bed with an enormous t.v. and a beautifully fitted bathroom with double shower and waterfall tap. |We sat in the garden with a couple of drinks( excellent gin selection) and instantly relaxed! The only slight negative is that the evening menu was quite meat heavy with only one vegetarian option but Andrew did tell us to speak to him in advance next time so that he could arrange a further veggie option so we definitely will do that. So not really a problem but worth knowing if you do have any food requirements. And speaking of food- the best breakfast we've ever had! You will eat like a King (or Queen!)|Thank you so much to Andrew and all his staff for an absolute gem of a break. We are definitely coming back!|Claire and Andy More...

We stayed for 4 nights as part of our visit to Hadrian's Wall and the Northern Lake District. The location is ideal being close to the A69 and the M6, yet in a really quiet village. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. It was equipped with all the modern conveniences one expects with a large hotel but with the friendliness of a B&B. The restaurant is open 4 evenings a week. The one evening we ate there it was excellent, as were the breakfasts. We also found there was a wide choice of good of restaurants close by in Wetheral and Carlisle. Scotby itself is a lovely friendly village with pub, shop, school etc. The owners and staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay, which we certainly did. We stayed here to break up our journey from the East coast of Scotland back to North Wales. ||||We stayed in their new lodge which is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! So tastefully done, everything was quality, the beds were the comfiest of our trip, excellent shower and brilliant little touches like herbal tea for a cuppa before bed (as well as normal tea and coffee). I can’t speak highly enough of the decor, the lodge has been decorated inside in such a tasteful way. The two outdoor seating areas were also lovely, especially with the views across to the garden and pond. ||We enjoyed a delicious breakfast this morning in Fini’s kitchen, the staff were all extremely accommodating and friendly. They were particularly considerate to our two small children, nothing was too much trouble. ||We are so glad that we decided to break up our journey here, it was such a relaxing way to end our trip. In our experience it is rare to have a B and B of this quality with an exceptional restaurant attached serving meals all day. The situation is delightful. Most rooms and the restaurant look out over the lake. A lovely spot. So close to the Motorway but no noise at all. We stayed three nights in Willow and it had everything we wanted. Two comfy easy chairs in the large bedroom. Comfortable six foot bed. Lots of space and storage room. Bring any special teas you might want for yourself otherwise everything is available there. Inside the house was spotless. There is a bit of mess outside as some building work is still going on, but I'm sure that will be sorted soon. The restaurant is superb. We had such a good meal the first night (check out the risotto and the duck) that we cancelled our booking the second night and ate there again. We should have stayed for the third night aswell as our meal at Fantails was mediocre at best. Breakfasts were a real surprise. Apart from all the usual hot options there was Craster kippers, eggs benedict, avocado on toast and lots of others. Lovely. We would thoroughly recommend and be happy to return any time. More...

During our two-plus weeks traveling in Wales and the Scottish Borders, we had the pleasure of staying in some grand properties and some over-the-top country houses. But none was more charming, inviting, and comfortable than Willowbeck Lodge. We arrived at this tranquil setting after a grueling drive in pouring rain, and were greeted with welcoming and helpful hands to get us and our luggage inside. (A service we never enjoyed in more posh places.) Our rooms were spacious, fresh, and pretty, with great mattresses and crisp bedding. We even had soft blankets instead of those infernal heavy duvets that European hotels insist on smothering their guests with. The bathroom was large, modern, and spotless, equipped with good water pressure and quality amenities. Downstairs, the attractive dining room has a soaring, stacked stone fireplace and huge windows facing the lush gardens. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious and beautifully prepared. If I had one small quibble, it's that there were no luggage racks, and no place for our suitcases but the floor. Willowbeck Lodge certainly offers a perfect respite on any road trip. More...
