It was a chill spot to go to. Had the Del Mar burrto and can't complain. Steak was tender and the shrimp was good. I enjoyed the bar with open windows in the back ground, so I had the street feel of it. In the middle of the stadiums and the convention center. YOU CAN'T BEAT SERVICE LIKE THISWillie's is perfectly situated right outside stadiums and the Phoenix Convention Center .. . so it's often busy, but the counter ordering system is swift and efficient.The Irish Redhead and I dropped in today after an Expo because she -- having been raised in New Mexico -- remembered the truly astonishing sopapillas she'd enjoyed at Willie's a year earlier, and she wanted another dose. Sadly, they're no longer on the menu. Churros were offered as a substitute, but declined.So we had REALLY GOOD burritos, not expensive, and here's the thing ... towards the end of our meal, a manager (server? cash register lady?) brought us a whole bag of churros. "We felt so bad that you couldn't get your sopapillas," she said, ,"that we made these churros for you as a gift. Please enjoy them with our compliments."Folks, THAT IS SERVICE. Excellent service! Cecila is an exceptional bartender/server. The Tuesday taco specials were affordable and delicious.  Great salsa bar too. Open restaurant with garage style doors, good music and fun vibe. I recommend this place, especially if you are attending an event at The Talking Stick Arena. It's across the street. Willie's is one of my favorite spots downtown, and my first go-to after (or before) a concert or baseball game. They're open late, serve yummy tacos (love the pastor and carnitas), and have strong drinks at good prices - increasingly a rarity downtown. It's always packed with a fun diverse crowd after events also. Service is usually spot-on, even when they are super busy. Stopped in there last night before the Clapton concert. It's right next to the arena, so very convenient. There were several others ahead of us but the staff cranked it - we were seated and had food/drinks in less than 20 minutes.  I got the Maui Wowie tacos and my friend got the Carne Asada tacos. We each had a margarita too. Prices are very reasonable too. I think the margs were $4 each and tacos about the same. Amazing. The owner or manager, y'all man with glasses ,of the establishment was friendly and welcoming. Took the time out to check on us, described the beers on tap, food on the menu, and the salsas, which were extremely delicious. Traveled to Sedona and we made a trip to Phoenix to see the city life here and this was the highlight of the Phoenix trip. We got the carne asad fries (way bigger than expected), 2 carne asad tacos, and a maui wowie taco. The corn tortillas were crispy and delicious!! We arrived at Chase Field for a L.A. Dodgers game. We decided to walk around downtown near the stadium and found this great taco joint. My wife had the Layered Taco Salad with chicken and said it was so good.  I had 3 tacos. The Green Butcher, the Pork Belly and the Sloppy Jose. All 3 tacos were amazing. Great! Customer service love love their tacos, the lady who assisted us gave us the option to get mix tacos got 6   beef, chicken, carnitas, fish (2types) delicious my favorites, rice and beans. Pretty decent casual tacos and Mexican food. I thought the prices were fine and the service was good. I ordered the lunch combo: sloppy Jose taco, black bean and corn chimi, and shredded beef enchilada with green sauce. It also came with rice, beans, and a fountain drink all for $10.99! There seems to be a lot of criticism of the prices in the reviews, but I thought I got a pretty great deal. My wife and I had lunch here today. The ambiance was pretty cool. We're not from the area so the open atmosphere was really nice. The music was a little... bro-ie, but I think that may also be because it's so near the stadium. Seating was decent. There was enough room for groups of 2 and I even saw a group of 6 enjoying lunch comfortably. There's a salsa bar where you can grab your own little salsa cups. I tried the Pico and the mango habanero. The Pico was great. Super fresh and tasty. The mango habanero was super sweet. I love mangos but it was a bit much for me. I got the pork belly minus arugula, 2 traditional carnitas, and the Baja fish. My wife got 2 Gringos and 2 Maui Wowie's. The Baja was alright. Tasted a little like frozen fish and salad mix from a bag, but it was ok. The pork belly was great. A little in the sweet side, but I didn't hate it. The carnitas were delicious. Simple and good. I also really liked the tortillas. They tasted fresh. My wife said she enjoyed hers as well. It was a bit on the pricy side. $38 for 8 tacos and glasses of water. Came on taco Tuesday and it did not disappoint! The gringo taco was one of the best tacos I've ever had; very simple but made fresh and the shell was crispy and homemade. The lobster soup is definitely worth it - extremely flavorful and comes out hot! Mimosas were wonderful as well as the margaritas (but the flavored ones are very sweet). Definitely not overpriced, you're getting great quality for a good price. The service was also some of the best around. Very helpful and friendly (and moved the heat lamp for us)! This was a cool little spot on a strip with some other bars. The place was nice and spacious. They had a full bar which was cool. I ended up ordering tacos to go and got a couple of each of the regular kinds. They were pretty good but not like amazing by any means. Maybe it was because I got them to go but they were very dry. However the salsa selection they had was fantastic and helped a bunch with the dryness. Def worth trying and I would try again and maybe try something else on the menu. I had their food for the first time at the Strong Beer Festival. Oh my gosh so delicious! The bean, cheese and chili quesadilla was on point! They have delicious beans. We had chicken and pork tacos as well as green chili mac & cheese that was absolutely delicious. Excellent pairing with a variety of beers at the festival. Highly recommend! I can honestly say that these are some of the best tacos I've ever had. I had the Maui Wowie, which in my opinion is a perfect fish taco. Flavorful, perfectly balanced, and the tortillas are sublime. In fact, all of the tortillas (they were different for each taco) were some of the best I've ever tasted, and I lived in Central America for a year. We also tried the Sloppy José, the shrimp taco, and the pork belly (I don't remember what they were called), and we were not disappointed even a little bit. Also, ask about the lobster chowder. It's so good!We were there on a Tuesday afternoon, so it was pretty chill. We were able to sit at the bar and shoot the sh*t with the staff, and we just had a fantastic time. Let me start by saying... BEST authentic tacos I've had in a long time. My mom and I were on a hunt for some good tacos and I came across Willie's! This place is a nice outdoor restaurant with lots of bar and regular seating. You order at the counter and then take a seat and wait for your food to be brought to you. Don't judge me but I came to this restaurant 3 times in 5 days. That's how good it is. After briefly glancing at the menu, I decided on carne asada tacos, and couldn't have made a better choice. The meat is tender, juicy and flavorful...what more could you ask for? One thing I'm curious about is why this place isn't more crowded. I've gone on Friday and Saturday nights, and the restaurant still only has about 5-6 people max. Not complaining, but people are missing out! Come to Willie's! Well, I don't say this about Mexican very often but it could use a bit more salt.  Good flavors well balanced.  The experience is great, downtown Phoenix on the street dining in an awsome atmosphere.  Order at the counter from a friendly lady, food served quickly delivered to your table.  Clean (ish).  The carne asada taco was really good, I love the way it was cooked.  The green butcher taco has a very unique flavor, hard to describe, not really vinegary or citrus or sweet or spicy but kinda all of them wrapped together.  The tortilla blew apart but still a good flavor.  The rice was basic.  The beans are good, nice flavor good texture and I love the cheese on top. What an awesome shop here in downtown Phoenix. I tried these guys out Friday night and was not disappointed. The service was super friendly and helpful, the dining area was clean and comfortable, and the Big Burrito lived up to its name, with Carne Asada, Carnitas, Beans, Sour Cream, and Cheese (I took off the guacamole and pico de geo). If you haven't tried Willie's Taco Joint yet -you are truly missing out! They were our food truck of choice at our Conception Art Show in Phoenix - at the Unexpected Venue on October 20th. They were definitely a HUGE hit at the show!We - Conception - provided an appetizer hour for our guests utilizing their amazing food - and people were coming back to get 10 to 20 tacos at a time once they tried the samplers! Gotta love it.The staff of Willie's are incredibly friendly, so accommodating and easy to work with that I would recommend them for any catering event that you may have. Plus you can always check out their restaurant too if you just want to stop by and have fabulous food!They aren't Award Winners for nothing!
