TRUE STORY: My web hosting company, which will remain nameless, informed me that my Wordpress website, Squarecylinder, would need a security upgrade: a move from http to httpS.
(Meaning, SSL, without which you can’t operate.)
Immediately, my website went from top-ranked to completely invisible on Google. Patience, my webhost counseled. Days go by, no change. I'm tearing my hair out. So I contact a buddy at Google who confirmed what I already sensed: things were really F***** UP. So I go to my Wordpress guy. He couldn’t find the problem, either. But quickly added: “I know who can.”
He called WEBSITE TROUBLESHOOTING, run by Robert Docherty. 15 minutes later, Robert calls. “Problem fixed. Faulty php file.”
Today, a new problem arises. Broken RSS feed. Robert, using a screen-sharing, app, fixed that problem, too. Total elapsed time: under 10 minutes.

Robert doesn’t waste time asking for name rank, and serial number, operating system or any of that other useless jive. He just opens the hood and fixes the problem. This is a guy you want to keep close -- like white on rice/cold on ice.

What makes a great website?
We define a great website as one that fills a business need. Building a pretty website just to have something is a waste of time, energy, and more importantly: money. If you have a business problem and the website messaging, visual design and engagement metrics are symbiotic you'll have a great website. If you don't invest in the initial planning and it gets pieced together you'll wonder what they web developer you hired was thinking regardless of their skill level.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What are your goals? Do you need help with marketing? Do you know have a customer profile? What is your timeline for completion? Budgets make the world go round but we value relationships and every idea has a different monetary value and requires different production times. We use you timeline, market stance and goals to establish a fair-market value to completing the work.
Describe your creative process.
Creativity has its place, but we focus on the end goal first. Once we have branding, imagery, and messaging we build out a concept that we iterate on. Providing mockups beforehand for a web project can be a waste of resources on our end and more cost with no necessity on your end. For a web application or mobile app, of course, it's worthwhile. But the process has changed and we can modify elements on the fly that mixes our unique style and your personal preference.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
An idea, dream, or goal. A timeline. A budget. A desire to get it done, be involved in the process when necessary, and committed to creating a quality website.
What do you love most about your job?
Helping someone avoid the common pitfalls in the development or design process and watching their idea flourish from our expert execution and their industry guidance.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I dropped out of high school, loved to sell, loved design, and just hustled for over 14 years.
