We like the old building and furnishings but if you like pristine don't go there. Our room was huge. We loved the fire place. The location is ideal to access downtown Stillwater and the river. Some of the rooms overlook the river. The service was great everywhere, hotel and at the bar and restaurant contained within. We had steak supper. That was very nicely done. In the morning we ate the breakfast which we both thought was way overpriced for the cold and meh food. The bar was interesting. There was a patron who clearly should have been cut off a while ago who made me uncomfortable. The bands musical ability was good but we could not understand them at all, talking or singing. My wife and I stayed here 1 night over the weekend and loved it! The staff was super friendly and welcoming as soon as we arrived. The hotel itself is pretty old, which is part of the charm. We didn't notice anything in poor condition though. We had a very nice room that came with a Jacuzzi and had very high ceilings which gave it an elegant feel. My personal favorite part was the Sunday brunch buffet we had. They had dozens of different dished to choose from including scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pesto salmon, and lasagna. Not to mention the made-to-order omelets and dozens of desserts like cheesecake cupcakes and cake. They also included bottomless mimosas in the price (only $15!). We'll definitely be coming back, definitely recommend it. More...

I had business to do in town and the Water Street Inn was very close to the office. I loved the historical look of the hotel. The staff at the hotel was amazing! There was a big snow storm coming in and they were all so kind and concerned with my well being. After having such amazing service at the front desk, I expected to run into someone somewhere that was going to have a poor attitude but it never happened! Every one I encountered from the front desk, Charlie's Pub to breakfast the next morning was wonderful! I have to go back in April and will be staying at this hotel again! More...

We loved it! Had a beautiful room over looking the ice castles. Very romantic get away place. Would highly recommend staying here. Breakfast buffet was very good. I thought it was a little too expensive for breakfast tho but good. Maybe if we would of not gone at 9:00 then it would of been combo breakfast and lunch. Customer service was great. Would highly recommend staying here. More...

Love the rooms and prices are reasonable. I love the atmosphere and the staff is very nice.
Some of the reviews we read before our trip made us anxious, but our experience surpassed our expectations in every way. There are definitely rustic touches, non-traditional layouts, etc. but we embraced that as part of the unique charm of staying in a beautiful historic property like this one. The staff was friendly and accommodating in every possible way - including finding space for us on a pretty full weekend when we decided we just had to stay an extra day! More...

Very friendly, helpful and sweet staff. Our room was beautiful, and the view of the river was spectacular! Perfect birthday weekend getaway in a great location and classy place!
Beautiful place to get ready before wedding in Stillwater... needs a little updating and repairing here and there. Did not stay there the night nor did we eat there so I can't rate that! Called for an iron twice with no response but it was busy so we figured it out but that was pretty poor customer service especially knowing we were getting ready for a wedding. They reserved us parking for the photographer, hair and makeup people which was nice since it was the same day as the art fair! Overall would recommend and stay there if given the need. More...

Had a very nice stay there, was disappointed that there were no ghosts, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. Only problems (and these are so minor I shouldn’t even mention it) the access from the parking lot into the Hotel. Now granted the streets where shut down for an event the next day, but it wasn’t fun hauling luggage with so many obstacles and detours. Again things going on, this problem might not be there in a few weeks. The other major issue I have with them and many places do this as well and it sucks. Not a fan of Hotels or Inn’s jacking their price by more then double because something is coming in the next day. I get we live in a capitalist society and I understand free market, but to more then double your rates for a small festival kinda sucks. I would have stayed two more nights but to go from $141 to over $350 per night is just not right. NOW all that being said, this is a great place, if your a couple looking for a cozy getaway the rooms are perfect. Everything is walking distance and there are many great pubs and restaurants just minutes away. Free parking is awesome, the staff are friendly. Other then price gouging this place is ok and I look forward to coming back. Oh and I almost forgot to mention my room had a whirlpool bath and gas fireplace. Perfect for a romantic getaway. More...

Great view of the river. A little pricey for what you're getting. Staff is a mixed bag of kind and accommodating or clueless and rude.

I love going to this hotel... My husband knows that... So on our last two anniversaries that's where he takes me. Last anniversary he got us the honeymoon suite.... And a private dinner The waiter did a great job at making sure our dinner was very special... This anniversary fell within a day of the Five - Course Cigar and Beer Dinner . The chef there is awesome . It wasn't our first food and beverage pairing w/ cigars there . It's always amazing..... I've never had any problems with anything in the rooms and the staff there in my opinion have always gone above and beyond to make sure we were happy when we stayed there.... So looking forward to going again in September for another food pairing when the old lift bridge is going to be closed to automobiles (actually will be closed to autos in August) .. I love watching the river boats go through it but hate the traffic noise. Maybe in August on a Wednesday night for one of their weekly wine and food pairings.... The food in the restaurant prepared by their chef is worth going back for. More...
This historic inn was an amazing backdrop for our special day. The team was awesome -- they were responsive to our needs, including helping us with our meat raffle! The reception hall at night was prettier than I could have imagined. The soft lighting was perfect. We also got so many compliments on the food -- the steak and walleye were cooked perfectly. All of our guests were extremely impressed as too often, when cooking for 180+, the quality isn't there. Plus, it was a great value. For the rental of the reception hall, we also received the six rooms above it including the bridal suite. It was so wonderful that my husband and I could put our grandparents and parents up for the night.
We would recommend the Water Street Inn to anyone looking for a gorgeous backdrop with an attentive staff along the picturesque St. Croix river. More...
Water Street Inn is awesome to work with! Allison was a godsend and has kept us all on track. She's very flexible and easy to reach at all times.
I had my wedding reception at the Water Street Inn at the end of May 2014. I have to say that it went PERFECTLY. Allison Young is the person we worked with to coordinate everything. She is so attentive and answered all of our questions promptly (including the numerous questions we emailed as we thought of them) and made herself available whenever we needed her. I cannot stress enough how comfortable she made us and how reliable she was. She gave us a high quality reception and touched based with us a few times that night to ensure everything was going as expected. I felt we got great quality and great value at the Water Street Inn. I would recommend this venue to anyone for a wedding reception!

Beautiful Inn! Fun and outstanding location being right next to the river and surrounding businesses!
Friendly staff, big clean rooms, nice view of the river, and quick room service. The location was ideal. It was a short walk to everything we wanted to do on Water Street. We had a very nice stay!
Awesome night celebrating 50 years of Community Thread Black Tie Bingo! Kudos to the wait staff and to the Chef Danny! A wonderful night with great people!
The Water Street Inn is perfect. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms have charm. The location is ideal. I will be back, often. Thank you Water Street Inn
Great historical land mark. A tad of a step back in time. No microwave or fridge in the rooms. Great woodwork throughout the hotel, and close to all the downtown shopping and restaurants.

This historic, water front inn was a great place to have our business meeting get together. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly - they went above and beyond. Always an amazingly warm, friendly and welcoming experience. Food presentation was Facebook worthy but also indescribably sumptuous! Given the fact that I have 4 chefs in the family it's hard to find food out equivalent to what I get at home.. the cod served for brunch was specifically spectacular..and the endless mimosa's was a nice surprise.. but being able to choose coffee or another beverage was a brilliant alternative! Good location in downtown Stillwater on the St. Croix River. Food is good, bar can get lively.Parking not to bad. Historic lobby. I would go there again. I stayed in a two room suite - the bedroom portion was on the river with a mini balcony and fireplace- that was okay. The bathroom was large but had no counter space. The living room was interior with dark Victorian wallpaper - even with all the lights on the room was dim, no work desk, classic Victorian sofa - very uncomfortable. I would not stay in that type of room again. More...

We recently had our wedding reception at the Water Street Inn (May 2015), and we couldn't have asked for a better venue. The location was absolutely perfect, the vintage/antique feel of the hotel was great fit for our vintage themed wedding, the staff was friendly, and the Event Director, Allison Young, was absolutely fabulous! Allison was there was every step of the way for planning our wedding, and was always on top of things. She should have had another title of Wedding Planner, because she was so helpful and had great recommendations and tips for us. She also had everything planned so that in case we couldn't have our wedding outside at the Lowell Park Gazebo, that we could easily move it indoors to the ballroom at the Water Street Inn. All of the staff was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that our wedding was successful and that all the guests were comfortable. The wedding party, among others, enjoyed having the pub located right in the hotel, and the bartenders at the pub were friendly and accommodating. We had so many compliments about how great the food was, including salads, steak, chicken and walleye. Overall, the venue was beautiful, accommodating, and charming with great food, a wonderful staff, and fabulous view of the St. Croix River. We couldn't give the Water Street Inn anything less than 5 stars, and we would recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married in Stillwater, MN!! More...
A real find! Lobster grilled cheese sandwich was fantastic! Many other items on the menu that sounded very appealing. Our server, Holly, was exceptionally helpful, personable, and attentive.

Headed up to Stillwater for Memorial Day weekend and stumbled upon the Water Street Inn. On our first visit we were served by "MAIGHDLIN". What a sweet and wonderful gal! She not only served us with a fantastic smile and personality, but gave us some tidbits on the town, helped us with a hotel recommendation, and even gave us her mom's number for real estate tips! Our second visit was at the Inn was on Sunday. The day was rainy and dreary and we decided to hang out. Headed over to the Water Street Inn again, and sat outside under the covered porch. Holly, another FANTASTIC waitress, took care of us not only with great food and drink, but with such an awesome personality. She really turned a gray and dreary day into a fun and relaxing time with her fabulous smile and wit. She even took a picture with us! Thanks again to Holly for really making our last day in Stillwater a fun and relaxing one!Highly recommend this restaurant if you want to enjoy a river view, some great food, and great drinks...you can't go wrong!Next time we're in town, we'll definitely be back! What an absolutely perfect romantic getaway!!! Stillwater as a city has worked very hard to celebrate and maintain its historic atmosphere, and the Water Street Inn fits right into this beautiful tradition. We arrived in the early evening and were directed to their private parking lot and told we didn't need to worry about restrictions--whew! We asked for some recommendations for dinner and the front desk worker suggested a number of places within walking distance. Our room, 220, was *perfect.* A four-poster bed in the smaller portion of the room with a view into the huge living portion of the suite. We had a view of part of the city and a fantastic view of the river and the Lift Bridge. The room was outfitted with Victorian-style furniture, a whirlpool tub, a fireplace, and a tv. The bathroom was very nice-sized and was modern. After dinner, we walked through Charlie's, the Irish pub attached to the Inn. A true Irish band was playing and the place was about half full--and everyone was laughing, dancing, shouting, and smiling----true Irish people! The band played for several hours and took very few breaks. The hotel is very centrally located--we spent Saturday walking around the main street, visiting the local breweries and wineries, shopping, and exploring the architecture. We didn't use the car all weekend, preferring to take full advantage of the hotel's location. What you won't get:-- A 200 sq inch plasma tv-- A template, forgettable, cookie-cutter hotel -- Waited on hand and foot. What you will get: -- A cozy, romantic sanctuary for you and your significant other-- Beautiful views of the city or the river-- A prime location for shopping, dining, touring breweries/wineriesI didn't want to leave, and we will be back!! Thank you, staff of the Water Street Inn!! More...

We wanted a place to go that was on the river so we choose Charlie's. We love the deck, and had never eaten inside the restaurant. It was terrific. Would go back again
Went with two friends for a weeknight dinner. We were the only people there. This is a very historic restaurant and inn so the atmosphere is rather old. Don't expect your typical Stillwater restaurant atmosphere (which we knew ahead of time.) The food was ok. Two of us had pasta and the third person steak which he did say was good. Just seemed average nothing amazing or out of this world. More...

Great food as usual. Noisy group in first dining room used us to move into second dining room. Food took longer to arrive than usual. Mentioned this to the server.
