Their bread is absolutely delicious. We come here for the best sourdough bread west of San Francisco. That wasn’t meant as a joke, I’m from the Bay Area and was missing the sourdough bread there. This is FRESH and TANGY and FREE of preservatives that prepackaged bread is. So good! While we would like to try the malasadas next time, we were there to grab some bread. We got lucky and arrived when it came out of the oven and it was so good! Had a nice chat with the owner who told us how she supplies bread for a lot of local businesses. There weren't many sweets there but we arrived at the end of the end of the day and the sweets could have been sold out but there was plenty of bread on the shelves. More...

This little gem is walking distance from Pono Kai Resort. VIP treats and sweets has fresh bread, fresh rolls, fresh cakes, AND super fresh MALASADAS. She keeps it simple with either sugar or cinnamon and sugar for you flavor options of the malasadas and that's really all you need. They are delicious and you can always find someone to talk to during the few minutes that you wait. There's always one or two guests in there with you. She calls her bakery a "mom and pop" shop and that's the best part about it. It's very simple but you can tell she takes great ownership in what is hers; which guarantees yummy food because she wants people to come back and enjoy her bakery. We're staying on the north shore and we're heading over to Waimea Canyon. I really wanted to try a malasada, but there are no shops up in Princeville. Yelp to the rescue as usual! This place does not disappoint. Located in the shopping center with Safeway, Ross, Starbucks and an ABC store we were able to get a few things done. I didn't realize they only do malasadas in certain days so I was thrilled that we were there on a Tuesday! We got a dozen, 1/2 sugar, 1/2 cinnamon sugar. Friendly service... I came in specifically for the malasadas, they make them to order, so you'll have to wait for them (about 7 minutes). .. We may be on the wrong island for malasadas but Kaua'i delivered with the perfect made-to-order malasadas at this hidden treasure. Found in the Safeway plaza in Kapa'a, across from the Coconut Grove, served warm with basic sugar or cinnamon sugar. Very pleased to have happened on a coupon in some yellow Kaua'i guide book. This is a small shop and not to be missed. There's a sign on the door that says "you can't judge a bakery through its windows" and that's very true. Go inside!! I was there for breakfast and purchased two sandwiches made on house-made bread which was delicious. Also purchased two cinnamon rolls and one sticky bun. So good! Had a visit to VIP Treats and Sweets to buy a layer cake for my guests. Enjoyed a lovely conversation while surveying all the yummy cheese cakes, layer cakes, carrot cake, banana cakes and creme brûlée. I opted for a chocolate layer cake with buttercream icing. After 21 years on Kauai it is a lovely treat to taste buttercream frosting. Most big box stores use vegetable shortening for frosting. I must say our cake was worth the price. We just arrived in Kauai and explored some local shopping plazas. We walked past VIP Treats and Sweets and saw a sign in the window offering made-to-order malasadas (Portuguese donuts) every T, R and Saturday. Seeing we had just arrived and knew we would be up early with the time zone, we knew this was our spot. The owner is fabulous. She is so friendly and has had the store open for just over a year. She spoke to us while we waited for our malasadas to fry. She told us about the island and her business.The bakery offers so many wonderful treats. Macadamia nut sticky buns, cinnamon buns, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast bread pudding, fresh baked breads and rolls, including a sourdough that is made from the owners in house starter which she has fed since 2015. There is also ciabatta in load form, which you don't see that often. Let me tell you, the malasadas did not disappoint. The dough is delicious and the fry was perfect - not too oily.
