My husband and I cannot say enough good things about Heidi. She is personable, she is caring, she has a heart for the candid moments, and above all else she LOVES what she does. We were so blessed that she was available on our date and enjoyed a great downtown Portland engagement session prior to our wedding. Everyone was wowed by those photos. Then our wedding day happens and we've been featured on our venue's social media and have people telling us the pictures should be in a bridal magazine! There aren’t enough positive sentiments in the world to describe Heidi and Velvet Owl Photography, but I’ll try to narrow it down to a few. Heidi’s art is incredible. As a photography enthusiast, I was having trouble finding a wedding photographer that really captured my interest. Heidi’s beautifully composed and edited images stood out the instant that I saw them. We hired her to capture our engagement (Mount St. Helens) and wedding (Silcox Hut at Timberline Lodge) photos, and my husband I agree that it was the best decision that we made about the entire event. The images are spectacular. Heidi did an outstanding job of capturing genuine emotion, candid moments, and fun details. Even our “standard” shots – the dress, shoes, poses that we requested – were composed in such a way that they command attention. Heidi seems to have a true affinity for using natural light, selective shots, and minimal equipment – she’s agile and fun, ran all over the various mountains with just us and her camera bag, and got some of the best images that we have ever seen. That’s the mark of a true artist, in my opinion.

And of course, beyond the spectacular images that she creates, Heidi is an amazing person – genuine, funny, and kind – and most importantly, able to quickly connect with and inspire trust from her subjects. Our wedding guests remarked that they would have loved to have had her at the wedding even if she wasn’t the photographer. I'm not even sure where to start here because I have so many great things to say about Heidi. I've been to weddings where all you see is the photographer and it is incredibly distracting, but that wasn't the case for our wedding. Heidi is great at capturing the couple's storyline throughout the day and she was a joy to have with us on our wedding day. I really appreciated all of her input with our scheduling along the way and everything worked out exactly as she said it would. She is so experienced and creative and her personality really puts you at ease in a time that would otherwise be very stressful. Best spent portion of our wedding budget, hands down! Our engagement and wedding photos are something that will be with us for a lifetime and I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. Heidi made our photo sessions fun and was even able to get a genuine smile out of my camera-shy husband! Her editing and style are truly one of a kind.
