I love it when a restaurant can make good food, great drinks and provide friendly service in a clean environment. It just means they will get more of my wallet share time and time again. This is my third time at Vega and finally got around to the review. Food has been consistent. I tried a dish on the regular menu even though it is a restaurant week. Shrimp Chipotle - WOW!First of all, I was excited to see the small portion of rice which made me focus more on the shrimp. The spicy sauce was great; it didn't burn my tastebuds to the point where I couldn't taste the dish as I have experienced elsewhere. The flavors were bursting through the veggies, shrimp, and rice. I particularly like that the owner takes pride in the freshness of the veggies and that everything is organic and made to order. This is not a frozen plate restaurant, the owner is on-site keeping an eye on the service and satisfaction of guests. You can tell with the flow of locals and first-time guests that this restaurant has a reputation for quality. The price is no secret, its what I would expect to pay for high-quality vegetables and meats for the area. This was my first experience at this restaurant, and let me start off by saying that this WILL NOT BE MY LAST TIME. Came in for an early dinner and was amazed by the different varieties of tequila. We popped in this restaurant based on other reviews and I can say we will most definitely be back. We were here in the early afternoon and choose to sit at the bar. The bartender/server was Manny. He was outstanding. Very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We ordered chips and salsa, the chips came out warm and the salsa was delicious. Then my wife got some ground beef tacos where I had a bowl with beans, rice, and corn and the Mexican corn. Fantastic! Had an amazing first time dining experience at VEGA. EVERYTHING we ate from the chip & salsa starter to our appetizers/entree and even our dessert was well prepared, fresh and tasted absolutely delicious (Shrimp fajita and churros were the best! ). Surprised by some of the reviews on here, but maybe it's because I have only been here once and did not order alcohol since I came for lunch with my co-workers. The guacamole they serve with the chips was freshly grounded in front of us and it tasted fantastic. They were very generous with the chips, giving us three baskets for the table in total over the course of our meal. I had the chicken chimichanga (pretty much a fried burrito) and it may have been one of the best things I have eaten out of a Mexican menu. Deliciously flavored and the tortilla was fried to a perfect thin crisp. Great textures. Due to a little mix up that was quickly corrected -- I was given my co-workers vegetarian's chimichanga at first (We brought this to the manager's attention and he quickly rectified the situation). Sadly, for my co-worker, I took a huge bite out of his chimichanga before we realized and I have to say the mushrooms were amazing. This place is right next to the Hartsdale train station and its probably the only Mexican restaurant around here. From outside it doesn’t feel too big but its huge and spacious. I love their interiors and decor. Certainly adds to the vibe. We had order Guacamole and it was freshly made in front of us on a cart. The salsa with the fresh chips were great. I had ordered the Vegetarian Chimichanga. It was great. They had vegetarian options for almost all their dishes. I would recommend this place. Having Vega as our go to Mexican is one of the reasons we stay living in Hartsdale. It's a gem of restaurant/bar and it has yet to disappoint. The newest discovery is the tostones with pulled pork appetizer. It's a meal unto itself but as great for sharing. I have been coming to VEGA for the past 7 years. We moved away from Hartsdale 3 years ago but we still come back once a month for VEGA. Ambience and food are great, the price-value is great and they make the best fresh guacamole we have eaten in Westchester.We are vegan and many menu options are good for us. We usually go for vegetable fajitas with rice and beans.
