The beef brisket sandwich was outstanding. Just the right of smokiness...not overpowering. The meat was tender. The BBQ sauce had a nice sweetness, again, not too sweet. Good service also.

We had great food and service!  The table side guacamole as wonderful. We were staying at the attached Hotel, had been driving and were tired. Twelve01 was convenient, so we thought we'd give it a try. Our server was personable and appropriately attentive. If we are in the area, we will consider stopping by again. It was a perfect ending to our travel day. More...

Stopped by Twelve01 after an afternoon of errand running with my husband.  While we did not eat a meal we will most certainly return and do so.  Reason?  Joey the bartender was the most active, energetic and polite food service person we have seen in a long time.  He didn't stop moving; refreshing the supplies, cleaning the bar, serving patrons and especially making everyone who came in feel welcome.  This establishment must be doing something right to have such a fabulous guy.We look forward to a meal at Twelve01. Such great food! French fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The black bean burger was awesome! My companion said the cowboy burger was just as great. Good atmosphere. Attentive wait staff. More...

Well... I guess I agree with the majority; 4 stars.  Hard to go wrong here.  Right off I-80 adjacent to a couple of hotels.  We went for lunch.  Huge portions of solid food.  Had sandwiches, burgers, flatbreads between our group.  The parents could hardly finish.  The 17-year-old loved that he wasn't hungry afterwards.  Good choice of food and drink.  Very good local beer choices.  Waitress was friendly.  We had a longish wait for our initial food - but only because there was a party of 16 in front of us - and the waitress apologized for the delay. This restaurant was attached to our hotel.I must say they get 5/5 stars for location but the food was way overpriced. It was tasty, but I would have given more stars if their prices were lowered. The bar was stocked and they made a WONDERFUL Long Island Iced Tea. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. More...

Met my family of 9 for breakfast in April. Had to wait 50 minutes for food which was totally over cooked and cold. Forgot part of order, and service was pretty poor. Emailed website about horrible meal. Heard nothing. Husband was on Facebook and commented on the place and got the response to email the same website. He answered back that I had 10 days ago and heard nothing. Of course no response! Pretty sad...Won't be back!!! More...

Solid place to be.  I got the tableside guac (recommended on the menu) and it was really good. Fresh guac is so tasty.  Since I'd had one item starred on the menu as recommended, I continued the theme and tried the Herky's Mac and Cheese as well. Flavorful grilled chicken on top of well-made mac and cheese made for a nice meal. Combined with the guac, definitely no need for dessert!  I was in the bar area, which has a good atmosphere, multiple TVs for watching sports, and appears to be well-kept.  If you're staying at either of the hotels right there, this is a no-brainer.  Haven't eaten out on the patio yet, but I'll be back to try that when the weather is nicer. Another good time at twelve 01. Finally got to try the tableside guacamole and it didnt disappoint! It went so well with my cobb salad. My salad was made with dark greens (which I love) and had a lovely array fresh toppings (crisp bacon, egg, chicken, blue cheese). I ended up eating it all because it was so good. Great atmosphere to watch March Madness. More...

I came here a second time and was very disappointed. On Fridays they have a prime rib special (comes with 2 sides of your choice) for $25. I was really looking forward to that. But unfortunately, the service was terrible. I sat at the table by the hostess for at least 20 min and still did not get acknowledged by anyone (several servers walked by and ignored us and were in the corner talking and still kept ignoring us), so I went directly to speak to the manager. Long story short, after speaking to the manager we decided to sit at a different table, since at that point we were really hungry and ordered the prime rib. The quality of the meat was good, but meat and asparagus were too salty for me. Honestly wished that the food made up for the service, but it didn't. I really liked my first experience here, but now I don't think I'll be back. More...

Came here the first time because the restaurant is in our hotel and we just wanted booze.  If you have read my other reviews, I complain about the lack of local brews on menus.  This place has a local-only tap list, the first I have seen anywhere. Fantastic. Five stars. During my two visits here, I tried six, all very good. My wife kept ordering the Pink Cadillac mixed drink that comes with a dark red or pink ice cube. The manager is super nice. He stopped by both times and asked how we were doing, and remembered we had been there before. The staff wore University of Iowa shirts both nights, which is cool. When in Rome ... Overall service five stars. The second time around, we brought our freshman daughter who goes to Iowa.  The place was packed. More libations, and food.  We got the custom avocado with chips that is prepared at your table. I got the Twelve01 Sunrise burger, which is a ridiculous combo of Chorizo and beef, a fried egg and hashbrowns. Okay, so I think I have found my niche in life, which is craft beer and burgers with egg. I am like a moth to light ... that Sunrise burger, wow, I have found burger Shangri La, except, like, it is the real deal. Five enthusiastic stars. I want to go back to Coralville just so I can try their other items, like the BLT avocado egg sandwich ... I am certain it will be top notch. So, there I have said it. We will be back. More...

After being seated by hostess, we waited 20 minutes without anyone coming over to acknowledge us, which was made more frustrating by the fact they had several workers near our table socializing. At that point the table next to us even made a comment on how long we had been waiting so we decide it was time to go tell management.   Overall, they were apologetic but it mostly just ended up being an awkward encounter.I ordered the prime rib, which was cooked well but was pretty much ruined by the super salty sauce ( don't expect anything resembling au jus). Asparagus was also a salt bomb.  Would say price of restaurant simply does not match ambience, service, or food. More...

Ordered the 1/2 pound burger with pork belly, sauteed onions, and cheddar cheese with no tomatoes or pickles. Was called that they were out of pork belly, OK. Told them to give me bacon. They did not adjust the price for this. Burger was OK, appreciated the fried egg on it though it was overdone, paid $18 for a quality $11 burger. Paid $10 for the worst cheese curds I've ever had, and I've had a lot of gas station cheese curds. They tasted like shite plastic Kraft "cheese product" rolled in stale bread crumbs and soaked in some ambigious oil. It was about $30 for a decent burger with good topping options and the worst cheese curds of my life. And I am a cheese curd aficionado. Their description, "quality craft beer breaded Wisconsin cheese curds" is an insult to cheese AND beer, two very sacred things in the Midwest. And to add insult to injury, the portion size of cheese balls was SMALLER than $3 gas station cheese curds that are WAY better than those pathetic crisps. This place must have an incredible atmosphere, I got my stuff delivered (insane $7 delivery fee + $2 processing fee to come 6 minutes from downtown on a Monday night) to get a garbage side and average burger. It was almost a $40 order for an entree and disappointing side. Can not recommend any other restaurant, bar, or popsicle stand enough More...

I have dined here several times, but last night was the LAST time.  I sat at the end of the bar. Bar was busy, but not overly so.  Basically, my server...Taylor..managed to ignore me during my entire visit.  So much so, that after waiting nearly 20 mins just to order my drink, and then another 20 mins before I was asked for a food order.  Food took half an hour(just a freakin salad, mind you).  Never checked to refill drinks.  Finally, ordered simple dessert... and yes another  20 mins.   During this time, I watched other folks come and sit at the bar, get served rapidly, and refilled. It was one of the most frustrating dining experiences I've ever had. I will never, ever, go back to this restaurant More...

10 September 2018

I'd give the service 3 stars and the food 1, so I averaged out my score. To be fair, we stopped here to eat about half an hour before they normally close, right after the big football game let out. I'm sure they were unexpectedly hammered with a large crowd close to closing. I'll try to be concise and constructive, because I think this place has potential and maybe we somehow just hit an off day. A party of 5, we showed up around 9:30 and were greeted and sat in about 15 minutes. That was great. We got our menus, started looking them over - fantastic! Everything sounded so yummy. Our waiter came up to take our drink order, my husband ordered an old fashioned and I ordered one of the signature cocktails. The rest of our party got sodas or water. It took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come back... only to let me know that they were out of the syrup needed to make my drink. I was totally okay with this - end of the night, busy crowd - except at this point no one had gotten any of their drinks, not even the non-bar drinks. Since we had been waiting a while, we asked if we could just order. Our waiter gladly took our orders and I picked out a new cocktail. It was probably another 10 minutes or so before anyone got their beverages. At this point we've been there 20+ minutes without a drink. Again, I understand about the bar being backed up but we should have gotten our sodas or waters or something. It would have made the waiting more tolerable. The second clue to how our night was going to go was the cocktails themselves. My husband's old fashioned was watered down with mostly melted ice cubes, and aside from the crushed cherry and a splash of whiskey was not made correctly. Like, not even remotely the correct ingredients. My "margarita" came in a pint glass, also with melted down ice, and tasted vaguely fruity with some sort of carbonation. It was missing the hibiscus salt rim and fancy ice cube that sold me on the menu, and although the flavor wasn't terrible, it was neither a margarita nor a $10 drink.  We hoped the kitchen was having a better night than the bar.Our waiter would periodically check on us to see if we needed beverage refills, and at one point, about 30-40 minutes after we ordered, came to apologize that the kitchen was backed up. Our food was delivered at 10:50. We ordered sometime between 9:50-10:00. This is almost ONE HOUR we waited on our food.I'm not sure what was happening in the back of the house, and how much was the kitchen and how much was our server, but something clearly went sideways. The food was... disappointing to put it politely. My husband and another of our party both ordered the prime rib (their special). My husband's was overcooked and dry.The other prime rib was cooked more like a prime rib should be, a little pink in the middle and not so dry, however the "garlic bread" that he ordered to go with it was a slice of toasted french bread with butter, and completely without garlic. The "Absurdly Addicting Asparagus" that both my husband and I ordered? My husband got some yellowish, stringy, stalks lightly coated with flavorless olive oil. My order had a few more green stalks than yellow, but there was zero flavor and the asparagus itself was just... sad. With a name like absurdly addicting I expected more. I ordered the scallops as well, and while the flavor was fine the were a little chewy, probably sat under the heat lamp with my husband's prime rib. (The avocado mayo they were topped with had that signature crust of being exposed to heat for a while.) The French Onion soup that another of our party ordered was declared pretty good. The chopped salad was passably okay, with the ranch dressing the highlight of that dish.  The Amish chicken had great herb flavor, but it, also, was a bit dry and the baked potato it came with was also dry (maybe a theme here). No one finished their meal except for the soup, and my brother in law who ordered the decent prime rib. At the end of the meal, the host came over to apologize for how long it took for our food to get there, and asked if it was "worth the wait." We just nicely said that we would rather not answer that question.I think one of the biggest hurdles this place has to overcome is its menu. If you're going to use descriptors like "dusted in creole seasoning" or "herb rich compound butter" or "hand sliced crostini" or "absurdly addicting" your food has to live up to the high expectations you've set.  Staff was friendly, but it felt as if everything they did was slow-motion. We overheard the bartender asking one of the tables "if their sandwich was okay" because "they didn't eat any of it" and from what we could catch of the customer's reply, we weren't the only table finding the food a bit lacking. With all this being said, I would give this place another shot. I'd probably come during happy hour, when the weather is nice and I can sit on the patio. More...

Saw sign on highway and checked Yelp. Disappointed at four-star rating, cause it really wasn't. Burgers do not come with cheese (waited five minutes to get slices on plate so food was cold by the time we put it on the burger) and a medium was over cooked. Daughter described it as "plain burger off the grill, and I was the 50th in line to get one." Salmon burger was tasty but had no tarter sauce or hardly any mayonnaise -- again, had to wait to get some. Fries were good. Tea was good. Service was very friendly and helpful. Seems overpriced for the quality we got. More...

Were really mis-led by the four star review. Beer selection very good. Service good. Pizza was not even lukewarm. Cuban sandwich had average ham, but the pork was absolutely unbearable. The beef brisket was definitely not the best I've ever had, but I did enjoy it. This restaurant is attached to a hotel. It doesn't seem like a place the locals go to, more like a trap for people on the road such as myself. More...

Went to lunch here today because we were holding a job fair at the attached hotel conference center. The place was great!  Got a bonus for checking in with the Yelp app . Free appetizer!  And we ordered 2. Got the table side made guacamole and the cheese curds. I at the guacamole with a spoon and it was phenomenal #keto so no tortilla chips for me. Had he blackened tilapia salad and it was awesome. Avocado, tilapia, tomato, wish I would have taken a pic but I was hungry and forgot. Used the guacamole and salsa as dressing and it was amazing. Service was fabulous and we had a great time. Everyone cleared their plates. Would highly recommend!! More...

This place had a really dark dining room which just kind of threw off the mood while I was eating. The service was just ok for it not being busy and having a seemingly large staff on the clock. Twelve01 Kitchen - (connected to the Coralville Hampton Inn and Radisson Hotel & Conference Center) is a great spot to meet your fam if they're in town and need a suggestion on a place to grab a post travel bite (that also happens to have a GREAT bar)! My favorite feature about this spot is it's beautiful outdoor patio, which is complete with a number of TV's, cozy couches, tables, and a fire feature that can be turned on if it gets chilly. In my experience, the service has been great - plus they have awesome happy hour deals! The waitress took our drink order (a water and a coke) and then never came back. We sat there for 10 minutes before we decided to walk out. We watched a table next to us get seated, get their drinks and order. I caught the manager on the way out to explain what happened and he didn’t even apologize to me. Great place for travelers. Large bar area with half-dozen TVs. Excellent food; friendly servers. Good beer selection, including craft beers. Good wine list (broad, not deep.). We started with guacamole, prepared table-side. Delicious; fresh lime and cilantro. Salty; made it taste better, but my cardiologist wouldn't approve. My wife had a huge Cobb Salad. I had a delicious strip steak, nicely seasoned, prepared just the way I ordered it.  Baked potato, again seasoned nicely (because I eat the skins), with whipped butter and sour cream.  Grilled asparagus was thin and charred just enough. Nice Oregon Pinot for $65/btl. Server was charming and very competent, even if too young to serve the wine.  And a plus. Really liked the atmosphere at the bar.  Lots of TV's, marble bar top, friendly bartenders and good music.  Perfect for business or other travelers.  There is also ample dining areas those who come in with a group, a date or with friends.Tonight the absolute highlight of my meal was the French Onion Soup.  Great taste and presentation.  Would come back for another bowl! Side salad was also good and fresh.Didn't love my Walleye Tacos however.  I will admit, I might not be an authority on what a good fish taco is or is not, because I don't like things too spicy.  But, in my opinion these tacos need something.  The Tacos were probably on the more mild side of the spice spectrum, but I did find them to be dry.  (Even though the fish was perfect cooked and was juicy on its own). I think the Tacos would have been top notch if they had some type of mayo, pico or better yet avocado on them.  One more recommendation... a smaller version of the guacamole would be awesome for all of us business travelers who sit at the bar!  (You are attached to two hotels, so I would guess you get a lot of single travelers in to eat).  It looked great, but it just wasn't priced or sized for anyone except a bigger group.  Would have loved to try it! The breakfast options in this area are few and far between, so we thought we'd check this one out.  Snuggled in between two hotels on north side of I-80 probably gets a lot of hotel traffic.   It was to be expected, clean, efficient, and quick.  The food was "ok".  Found it strange then when ordering a breakfast burrito there was no sauce on the inside, and the western omelet didn't come with a side of salsa. We did end up asking for a side of salsa and it came out in a very small dish for the 3 of us.  When all of our drinks were empty and we were still eating the server came over and only asked how we'd like our check, no "how is the food?" or "would you like a refill?" Just how would you like the check.  We kindly asked for refills which she brought back with the checks which then my friend was finally able to get a box as well.  So all in all, the food ok, the service was a bit lack luster, but if you are hungry if will fill your stomach. My wife and I decided to stop by this restaurant and give it a try last minute a few weeks ago. Unfortunately we weren't impressed with the decision we made. It's definitely a hotel restaurant with subpar food. I ordered a half turkey sandwich and chili combo. The slice of cheese was probably an off brand of some cheese wrapped single. It tasted like plastic/chemicals. The turkey was also probably out of some pre-sliced packaging, and the bread might have been wonder bread.   I think a local elementary cafeteria would serve a better turkey sandwich. The chili tasted like it came right out of a can. My wife had a salad with chicken. The chicken taste like it was recooked or precooked. The reason I gave it 2 stars would be the great service by our waiter. The bar area looked like it probably would be a fun place pre or post wedding ceremony. I definitely would not come back to this place for the food. More...

Another great meal and service at 1201K&T.  The food is always delicious, well presented and served quickly.  The cost is just a tad bit high, but it is located in a hotel, so I guess they are going to tourist and traveler dollars.  Perhaps they could start a resident discount card like the Marriott Edgewater Grill does.  Anyway, the service was on par and the meal was a hole in one!  We will return soon.  Hungry for more. Really decent hotel restaurant/bar.  They accomodated my dietary needs and supply food for not just the Radisson, but also the Hampton Inn that is attached. The Taco bar I had was delish.  The fettuccine was also good.  I indulged in the beer selection, but saw a yumm fried avocado and vanilla ice cream that could hold their own. Many local Iowa selections and good pours on mixed drinks.  If you are reading this, you are near.  Go get a drink. Amish chicken was extremely dry & no flavor  I tried at the suggestion of my server, he said it takes around 20 mins to cook so he placed the order right away and within 5 mins it was at my table it was steamy dry hot in certain places like it had been precooked and reheated in the micrwave

I have been to Twelve01 a couple of times and  it's an ok place to hang out, but the quality of the food doesn't seem consistent. Pros: Great patio space, wonderful during the summer. I also enjoy the guacamole made tableside (although honestly you can make the same thing at home for half the price) and the drink specials. You can't beat the $5 sangria on Fridays. Also good for groups.Cons: The last time I visited a couple of weeks ago the experience was only average. I ordered wings and they were dry and over cooked (see photo). I had to ask for extra sauce to make them edible. Also, while the sangria was cheap it wasn't great, it lacked flavor.Bottom line: Go in the summer for the patio, skip during cold weather because the food just isn't good enough to hang out inside. Just had the Valentines Day special and it was awesome.  I had the tenderloin and lobster tail and was impressed with the perfectly cooked lobster.  The meal came with choice of salads, 2 sides, and dessert.  My husband had the bleu cheese/horseradish  encrusted prime rib...it was awesome.  The manager recommended a Pinot Noir which I was very impressed with.  And..of course, the wait staff was awesome.  It was an absolutely lovely evening.  Thank you :) More...

I love coming here! I have been to Twelve 01 several times for Happy Hour, they always have a great selection on tap. I also love the Hibiscus Sangria--simply divine! I've had a few appetizers and meals there as well...the guac is simply amazing! The ingredients are the usual but it's just so fresh and the right proportions of each and basically fills you up! The staff is very nice and the service is great. I decided to have my birthday meal here last year and chose a pasta dish. So good and so much--had to take some home, especially after filling up on guac :) recommend and will return! More...

Visited there for the first time last tuesday after they held an yelp event there few months ago. when my friend and i walked into the restaurant, we were a little bit worried, since a lady looked at us as if we walked into the wrong place and just totally ignored us. After a few minutes, another waiter came to greet us. Luckily, the service later was very pleasant. When you check into yelp, you will get a free appetizer for your table. So with that coupon, we ordered a crab cake, which was very good and came in really huge chunks of crabs. My friend enjoyed her ribs. I ordered a burger that has an egg on it. it was humongous. I could only finish half of it. the burger also came with chorizo, but i felt like there weren't enough flavor in the chorizo. everything just tasted kinda bland. i was hoping that the chorizo would add some flavor to the dish. i would go back again to try something else, but probably won't go in with a very high expectation. We would have never eaten at a "hotel restaurant" except for the fact that I checked Yelp for good restaurants in the area of the hotel we were staying in and several good reviews came up for 1201.  I had the fish tacos and they were good.  My wife had the 1201 Flatbread and it was also pretty good.  We are also craft beer people and they were very knowledgeable on their selection of local Iowa brews.  I'm glad I I checked Yelp. We decided to try Twelve 01 for our anniversary, I was really looking forward to the table side guacamole which was about the only good part of our dinner. It was fresh and made to my liking. Our server was absolutely wonderful. The fried cheese curds we got were cold, some near frozen which was really disappointing because the breading on them tasted great. My husband ordered the New York strip medium but what he got was very well done, charred & dry. I personally like my steaks well done but this was too over done even for me. I had the grilled salmon Alfredo pasta. Again the salmon was super dry but I figured if I poured Alfredo sauce on it that it wouldn't be bad however the Alfredo sauce was thin and tasteless almost like milk. I didn't even eat the pasta. Our drinks were good but a bit overpriced. We bought all of issues to the attention of our server and she took 1/2 off of 1 meal however that still left us paying $70 for an awful meal. I wanted to try their brunch sometime but we will likely not be back. More...

For a hotel bar/restaurant it's better than most I've been to on the road. The food seemed fresh as well. Way too much butter on it. Everything seemed overpriced for what it was worth. More...

This restaurant looks really great on the inside. Very modern and full of ambiance. We chose to sat outside because it was a nice warm summer night. There is a very expansive menu and a variety of drinks to choose from. My boyfriend commented that he liked the menu because it was just one large sheet on a board. To start, we got the ceviche and chips as well as the Pork belly. The ceviche was very light an refreshing. I really wanted to just have the ceviche without the tortilla chips. You can never go wrong with pork belly. It has a nice sweet, maple taste to it. So soft. So fatty. Mmm.For main dishes, my boyfriend got the full rack of ribs. He said he wish there was such a thing as 3/4 rack of ribs because it was just a little too much for him (he ate it all anyway-I think he liked it).I got the Fettuccine with chicken that comes with a piece of bread. I was getting pretty full at this point from the appetizers, but the fettuccine was very nice and light. I would definitely get it again.Overall, this is a great date spot and I enjoyed all the dishes. More...

We first ate at Twelve01 a couple months ago at the Yelp event. We got to try a lot of the menu and  a few drinks. This place really stands out as not your "usual hotel restaurant experience. " The menu is actually quite creative and you can tell the manager has worked very hard to make it a destination not just for hotel guests but for locals as well. And that's not an easy task! The bar features some of the best Iowa craft brews on tap. The menu gives you an authentic Iowa/Midwest flavor as well as some Latin American favorites like ceviche and homemade guacamole that's as good as it gets. Tonight the wife had the Amish chicken with tender seasoned asparagus and poblano rice. I had the walleye and fresh-cut fries. Everything seemed to be made fresh from scratch and made with pride. Went here for dinner last night. Their special for the evening was Prime Rib and since we were celebrating, I decided to indulge. It was amazing! Got the chipotle mashed potatoes and asparagus for sides and it was all absolutely delicious. My fiancé got the burger that comes with Mac and cheese on it and fries, both of which were enjoyable. We came for Sat night dinner & would like to give them another try (maybe Sun brunch) to help them keep improving, because for a restaurant connected to a hotel, they show a lot of promise. Kudos: unexpectedly nice ambience, strong local craft beer selection (could even further improve with wider bottle selection), attentive manager (we saw him often), overall menu selection, quality & quirkiness of dishes, nice kids menu choices, & great DESSERTS (you'll love the mango/strawberry crepes and kids will love the s'mores dessert). Needs a little work: prices are a bit high for the quality (we managed to spend $100 w/3 people - one of whom was 10), just average service (my chowder never did come and server seemed very young/inexperienced in the subtleties of service), filet was very nice & cooked perfectly but wife's brisket sandwich was drowning in average BBQ sauce (maybe serve on the side with a couple of sauce choices?), daughter's walleye fish & chips came with soggy "chips" although the fish was very nice. "Absurdly addictive asparagus" tastes exactly like well-seasoned regular asparagus. More...

Went with a foursome to Twelve01 on a weeknight.  The decor is unique and updated.  It was fairly busy so the service was slower, but not abnormally so.  Our server was friendly, but it wasn't enough to make up for some other issues.  Our drink order took 4 trips and nearly 45 minutes due to being out of a couple beers.  The table made guacamole looked great, but based on the drink order we held off and went with fried cheese curds as an appetizer.  Unfortunately, they came out after our entrees. My group enjoyed the entrees(brisket/burgers/pasta), but were disappointed in some of the prices.  I'll give Twelve01 another shot and would recommend it to anyone staying at the hotel needing a convenient meal, but at hotel prices can't recommend it over other options in the Iowa City/Coralville area. Also, an FYI, the restaurant must be using the previous restaurant's merchant account so it appears on credit card statements as River City Bistro. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to a restaurant in a hotel, and once included a time we left our keys in Washington state on our way back to Chicago! Our recent visit to Twelve01 was probably the second time we've ever actively sought out a restaurant at a hotel. After a Yelp event a few weeks ago, we were intrigued and after our visit, we were both very pleasantly surprised by the experience! The ambiance here is quite nice, not too fancy, but a few steps up from chains. Dark wood, nice separation of sections and high booth backs give people privacy, but doesn't make it seem like you're eating by yourself in a giant room. The decor is nice with a large wine display and couple TV throughout. It was surprised at how well the TVs worked here. Other spots have tried and it just didn't work as they were too distracting. These seem to separate out well, while still letting people check scores without being a focal point. The beer selection is solid with a ton of Iowa beers - all of which are half off between 3 and 6! Great to have them highlight local stuff! The food is what will bring us back. They're having a lot of fun with them menu and truthishly, it was unexpected at a place that hails from a hotel - Moreso, they've done a good job of trying things in different spots on the menu, not just with appetizers. Pork belly with maple Sriracha, Guac made table side with a mortar and pestle and a queso with chorizo were all options to start. We however started with crab cakes - very nicely prepared and pretty standard for the area. A little on the small side for this left coast native, but overall very good. Our three year old told us he liked them enough that we should learn to make them at home. It came with a side of spicy butter corn that was good enough to just spoon by itself. We split a Cobb Salad and Chicken Club Milanesa. The Cobb was good with a lot of targets that were nicely prepared. It had a LOT of bacon which was a big plus for this porcine connoisseur! The Chicken Club Milanesa was the big surprise of the night - it was AWESOME. Presentation was great as it looked like it was about 8 inches tall, but indeed had been stacked. It was delicious! Texas toast with a cilantro lime dressing, swiss, really nicely done crispy chicken and bacon. I dare say, it was one of my favorite sandwiches I've had in the area. We found more fun stuff on the dessert menu as well. We tried and hot and cold ice cream - It was just what it sounds like! Normal vanilla served cold, then warmed with frothy vanilla on top - served with a chocolate soda cake - it was very memorable and lick the plate good. The mango strawberry crepes and fried bananas looked excellent as well and will be our next conquest! All in all, this place was an incredible surprise. We walked away talking about what we'd like to try next time - something that doesn't happen all that often, and certainly never previously when walking out of a hotel restaurant. They're doing some really good stuff here, are super friendly and made for an unexpectedly nice evening! It's a first from us, but we're excited to go back to that "Hotel Restaurant" and try more! Throw your hesitations to the wind and try this place out - odds are there are half a dozen things you'll want to try! More...

Twelve01 Kitchen+Tap was a welcome and somewhat unexpected surprise. I will admit that Hubs and I were initially hesitant as we pulled up because the Twelve01 is attached to one of those generic roadside motels that scream mediocrity. But, if you will only get out of your car, you will be pleasantly surprised.First, the decor of Twelve01 is elegant and fresh. The bar area is calming and welcoming. The perfect place to enjoy the expansive offering and local brews. However, I love their Moscow Mules. Well made and appropriately boozy, the Mule is a perfect start to your evening. And, if the weather is nice, you can enjoy it on their outdoor patio! Score! We enjoyed the house-made guacamole. It is prepared right in from of you from fresh avocados, and served with chips. You should enjoy it. Don't worry, it is not too spicy, but loaded with flavor. The cheese curds were also great. Perfect finger food while you are sitting at the bar enjoying those local brews. But the highlight is definitely their dry-rubbed rib dinner. The ribs are falling off the bone tender and just packed with flavor! This is my favorite dinner! Hubs enjoyed their hamburger, which was perfectly pink in the middle and served with ridiculously fresh lettuce and tomatoes. Now I almost want to stay at the motel so I can just walk down to a a tasty dinner! Either way, we will definitely be back! More...

I was able to get out to the Twelve01 Kitchen and Tap in a group setting and try several of the dishes in a appetizer style format, it was a small taste of several items so I cannot comment on portion sizes. It would also be unfair to comment on service as that can change in a normal meal setting however the staff I did interact with were super friendly, attentive and courteous. The atmosphere was very comforting, not too bright, modern, clean and soothing colors. I would say the attire was slightly better than jeans and a baseball cap, and the prices looked reasonable. As you enter from the street you walk into a beautiful full bar setup with plenty of choices of wells and beer on tap. For the food I will list in the order of my personal favorite and why. The Guacamole dip was fresh with great texture, wonderful flavor and multiple ingredients. The chips that accompanied the guacamole were not too salty, just right. The Shrimp Ceviche has a fantastic flavor with just a hint of heat at the end. Nice chunks of meat and vegetables, possibly a little more juice than other recopies but that was not a problem for me as that was really good. A true winner! The Chicken & Shrimp Corn Chowder was an explosion of flavors! Such a great combination! One of the people I was with mentioned before tasting this chowder that they did not expect to like it because they were not a chowder person.  After trying the chowder it was their favorite dish of the night and could not stop raving about the wonderful favor. The Ruben was pretty good, fresh and true to the standard style.   The Crab Cakes were good and fresh but I did not get any special spices from it that I prefer in my crab cakes. The one saving grace was the chipotle lemon mayonnaise which was very good. I ate a Mini burger which was on the plain side, the one thing that stands out was the fresh tasty bun. Hint: add the guacamole and you really have something here. I am not a big short rib person and would normally not eat them, so for me to say they were good is really saying something. I do know that several people in my group flagged this as their favorite dish of the night. The Iowa Cheese Curds were good but again no extra spices which is what I prefer but if you are a true cheese curd fan then nothing more is needed here.  I only had a small sample of the Braised Pork Belly which was entirely fat but I can tell the sauce that was on it was good. There was nothing on my list of foods I tried that I would discourage anyone from trying, it was all very good.  Overall this was an enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.Update 3/8/16:I went back to this location and tried a normal full meal I have the sunrise burger and it was excellent! It was cooked to my specifications I asked for. The fries were smaller perhaps home cut not sure but there were plenty of them. The service was fantastic, polite and prompt. Even the other employees were courteous to us not just the server. I had a couple friends along and they had the ribs and the chowder, both thought their meals were wonderful and said they would be back. More...

maybe the bar drinks are something special, but the food certainly isn't worth the price. of course they don't list the prices on line. . for good reason. we were there at 3:00 on a Thursday. no more than three other people there. ordered a Coke. 3/4 ice, 1/4 Coke. tell them to limit the ice. decided to try the "jumbo" crab cakes despite their $13.95 price tag. nothing jumbo about them and there are only two. they were very creamy and flavorful, but the corn relish was very spicy and had dried up kernels in it. we ordered our main meal at the same time. it took 45 minutes for it to arrive. we got the bone-in ribeye and the double cut pork chop. the steak was $25, flat, had to be sent back because it was not cooked medium and was just okay when it did come. the pork chop was a nice size and tender enough but the spices on the edges overwhelmed the flavor of the pork. it was a $20 chop. the chipotle potatoes were blah, the poblano rice had a delayed kick but was nothing special and the "absurdly addictive asparagus" tasted like regular asparagus unless you used a spoon(awkward)to scoop up some pine nuts that were on the bottom of the plate. yawn. we were so verbally disappointed with the cost, the wait time and the food that the manager brought us extra sides and didn't charge us for the crab cakes. go across the Interstate to Perkins. better food for a fraction of the cost.
