Got a Cuban sandwich and their Athena chicken pita; the ham on the Cuban wasn't sliced as thin as other places and the bread was only lightly toasted. Overall was a pretty good sandwich. The Athena had an overall good taste, although the tzatziki was a bit on the runny side and the chicken seasoning over-powered the flavor of anything else; the pita bread itself was really good but didn't hold up very well against the runny tzatziki and broke apart. Very friendly owners at this little hole in the wall in the Palm Bay area.  They specialize in over the top variations of traditional sandwiches.  I had the "A Pig with Seoul".  As the name implies, it is a variation of pulled pork with hints of Korean BBQ inspired flavor.  It also had crispy fried onion strings atop the massive amount of pulled pork.  The owner said it was one of their most popular sandwiches.  I also had a side of tots.  They were running low that day so gave me a half order and a side of corn bread.  The tots were a little soggy, but as to be expected as the day was winding down for them.  The corn bread was excellent.  Nice melt in your mouth flavor! I just wanted to take a moment to rave about how amazing my caterers- Chris and Jenny with Tropical Spices LLC were when they catered our wedding on October 16th. When I first went on the search for the food for my wedding, not only was it a challange to find somewhere that would make everything we wanted, and to be there to serve the buffet- but do it within our budget. Basically, I was on a search for a unicorn.

I sent out an cry for help on one of our local wedding Facebook pages. After many of suggestions that just didn't fit, I recived one from a girl who's wedding Jenny and Chris recently catered. I messaged them and immediately my axiety level dropped by a million when they told me they could provide me with exactly what we wanted and within our budget. I met with them a few days later for my tasting and it was love at first bite!



Through the planning process they were excellent communicators, any questions I had, they immediately answered. Before we knew it the big day was upon us, and everything was absolutely amazing! Our guests raved about all the amazing flavors and my husband is still eating our leftover tropical spiced chicken as if he were popping Pringles in his mouth- once he popped he just couldn't stop! Lol! So if you are in the market for a catering company who will work with your budget, make pretty much anything you can think up, with lots of flavor instead of boring banquet food- whether it be for your wedding, baby shower, or you know- don't feel like cooking for the holidays lol, you won't be let down with this amazing couple! Thank you so much Jenny and Chris for all you do for your customers! The Manuels love ya- you're our favorite "unicorn"!




May 2015- Had my tasting today with my caterers for the wedding! The food first off was amazing, I mean yall are serioisly in for one heck of a treat! And to top it all off, they are just the nicest down to earth people ever, and SO professional, they helped me with everything down to how the tables and such could be set up and how it would make it more functional! Sandwich shops are a dime a dozen, but Sammys is definitely something different. Went today for lunch relying on the word of a friend. Had the special which was an open faced breaded sandwich with cheese, mushrooms,  brown gravy on rye. Excellent!  Service and employees were great. I ate in, so the only negative was it was served in a Styrofoam container with plastic utensils. Between the meal and container was very thin aluminum foil, that kept breaking apart when cutting the meal. I've gotten sandwiches from here twice in the past month and they were great! Always hot and delicious and the owner was so friendly and kind when I went the first time and the girls working are fantastic too. The only thing I have to take points off for are the tater tots. I ordered them on my first visit and they were not good, tasted like they weren't fresh or had been sitting under the warmer too long, but how awesome my sandwich was had me coming back the next time I forgot my lunch at home, just sans the tots. Over The Top Sammies - Palm Bay - 5 StarsHidden Gem AlertAs a parvenu in the food world, I constantly seek gratification for my hunger. About ten percent of the time, I stumble across a dining establishment that catches me off guard. Over the Top Sammies is one of those establishments that did just that. Despite their modest appearance, they provide melt-in-your-mouth, lip-smacking sandwiches that are truly, as they say, "over the top."The storefront is in a non-descript plaza on the eastern end of Palm Bay Road. What really makes this place a great surprise is that by looking at the ambiance, you are struck by the lack of decor -  I mean zip, zilch, nada by way of interior design. The sitting is family style, but if that makes you uncomfortable, you will need to fight through that hesitation because what awaits you is nothing short of food fantasy land. The menu here is so original and creative that you will be blown away by the offerings. Before I go further on about the food, I'd like to make a quick note on service. If I factored service into my rating, this venue would be short a star. Once again, I was the only person there but it was early for the typical meal rush. Despite not being busy, the counter-person got snippy with me because I was asking so many questions about the menu. When you have a diverse and unique menu, your wait staff should be prepared to field inquiries about the unfamiliarity with the menu rather than having a distaste and aversion to being helpful to their patrons about the variety of unusual selections.Now on to the food. I ordered 3 Sammies: A Pig With Seoul (you see what I mean?), Spanish Sloppy Joe, and Hey! Meatball Sam. These sandwiches are served on basic buns, nothing fancy as you might expect from their creative monikers. Quite frankly, you would think someone who is creative enough to come up with these dynamic recipes would have a smidge of creativity with the buns but holy cow! - the contents are incredible. The Pig With Seoul is a succulent layer of pulled pork seasoned with Korean spices, which gives a zippy tang on the tongue. The Spanish Sloppy Joe is a Sloppy Joe as you would expect, but WOW, let me tell you this ain't your Momma's Joe. This has a kick that is so pleasurable you want to keep going and not stop. The weakest entry of the trio I sampled is the Meatball Sam. Don't get me wrong - it's good - but it's just not in the league with the other two. You get a homemade meatball smothered in a meat sauce, which is not runny but thick and tasty, and is an honorable representation of a meatball sub.So if you are looking for a place to buck the status quo when you're craving a sandwich, this is the spot for you. GROWING PAINS......I visited Sammies the other day for lunch for the first time.  I give them 5 stars for their great effort and friendliness.  I would give them 4 stars for the food and 1 star for a rookie mistake.I had their steak meat sandwich (I forget the name of it). The meat was plentiful, cooked well done (which I prefer medium) and tasted very good.  However, the sandwich bread they use is not capable of handling the meat and meat sauce. The sandwich totally fell apart in my hands.  I suggested to them to use a sturdier bread like maybe Cuban bread.  All the sandwiches are $7.  This is ok, but for the price, I would like to see a small bag of chips with the sandwiches, if nothing else a handful of chips on the plate. Hey, how about a pickle spear?Now the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.  I asked for a cup of water and they could not provide it.  They mentioned that I could buy bottled water.  This to me is a rookie mistake.  A sit down restaurant that doesn't provide water.  Come on! Even McDonald's provides a cup of water. I will be back and give them a second chance.  The staff was very friendly, the food has potential. Hopefully they will read this - add some chips, a pickle and provide a cup of ice water with their meals.Lastly, I read a review on Yelp that stated that this is a good take out place because they did not have ample seating.  This might have been an old review because I found the seating to be just fine for the size of the place.  It was clean and adequate.  Maybe, as they grow they will need a new bigger place.....GROWING PAINS.....
