Being mindful is not easy as most of us live our lives in the past or the future. A typical example of not being mindful is: you are in a car, you travel from A to B and don't remember the journey. Mindfulness can be taught on a one to one basis or in groups.
From January 2004.
to become familiar with the workings of your mind to notice the times when you are at risk of getting caught in old habits of mind that re-activate downward mood spirals to explore ways of releasing yourself from those old habits and, if you choose, enter a different way of being. to put you in touch with a different way of knowing yourself and the world to notice small beauties and pleasures in the world around you instead of living in your head. to be kind to yourself instead of wishing things were different all the time, or driving yourself to meet impossible goals. to find a way so you don’t have to battle with yourself all the time to accept yourself as you are, rather than judging yourself all the time.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
From September 2010.

The purpose of meditation is to cultivate those states of mind that are conducive to peace and well-being, and to eradicate those that are not. If we examine our life we will discover that most of our time and energy is devoted to mundane activities, such as seeking material and emotional security, enjoying sensory pleasures, or establishing a good reputation. Although these things can make us happy for a short time, they are not able to provide the deep lasting contentment that we long for. Sooner or later our happiness turns into dissatisfaction, and we find ourselves engaged in the pursuit of more worldly pleasures.
