Doctor Matt Mak is a most caring, conscientious and patient vet. On October 18, 2019, he arrived quickly to our home in the evening, and after examining our precious senior Cavalier King Charles Spaniel girl, Gypsy, he explained to us calmly and kindly, what was happening to her and what our options were. We felt reassured and also relieved that someone was there to help her cross over as we didn't want her to suffer. He was gentle and empathetic throughout the entire process and we never felt rushed. After she was euthanized, he gave us time and privacy alone with her to grieve, and then he took such gentle care to remove her from our home (we wrapped her in her favourite pink blanket) and he carefully carried her out to his vehicle, where we said our final goodbye. We opted to have her ashes returned to us, and through the entire process he would message us and give us updates, keeping us posted of all the steps. I highly, highly, highly recommend their services, especially Doctor Matt Mak. More...

I first met Dr. Mak at the Pet Expo in November 2019. My miniature schnauzer, Mr. Wilson, had been diagnosed a few days earlier with cancer and had only been given weeks to live. I had never had a pet put down at home but Dr. Mak answered all my questions and really put me at ease about the decision I had to make. On December 18, 2019 I called Dr. Mak to make an appointment for Mr. Wilson to be put down on the weekend. After explaining Mr. Wilson's current condition I could sense Dr. Mak was concerned for him. Dr. Mak said to call him sooner, if Mr. Wilson seemed to be in distress, it didn't matter the time, and he would come. On December 20, 2019 I decided that Mr. Wilson was in too much pain. I called Dr. Mak after 8PM, not really sure if he would be able to come out. From the time Dr. Mak arrived at my house till the time he left, I felt a genuineness and a sense of caring and compassion about what he is doing. When he first came into my house he made it a point to pet my other dogs to get them comfortable. I liked that Dr. Mak explained everything that he was doing and why. He treated Mr. Wilson with such dignity and respect. Dr. Mak gave me as much time as I needed to say goodbye. After Mr. Wilson passed and he carried him out to his car, Dr. Mak stayed and we talked. Dr. Mak really does care about the people and dogs he serves. At home euthanasia is not something people talk about or maybe even think about. But Dr. Mak made the situation a lot less stressful for not only me but also my other two dogs. I will be forever grateful for Dr. Mak for helping Mr. Wilson pass on. More...

On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, with great compassion, patience, and support for our family, Dr. Mak helped us let go of our beloved 9-year old boxer, Suzie, who was fighting bone cancer in her jaw. Losing Suzie was incredibly painful for us. We were totally unaware that she was ill until the very beginning of July. We nursed her through the month and when it became apparent that her quality of life had been substantially lowered (mostly because of the pain caused by this aggressive form of cancer), our adult children helped us make the right decision. Still, without Dr. Mak's knowledge, insight, understanding, and patience, I don't think my husband would have been able to go through with it. I never would have thought that putting down a dog could be a meaningful experience, (Suzie was our 4th boxer and the first to be euthanized at home), but Dr. Mak encouraged us to make the event special through the use of photos and video of Suzie, through the use of music that means a lot to our family, and by encouraging us and our family members to surround Suzie, both physically and emotionally, with love as we let her go. Dr. Mak explained each and every thing he was doing and the reasons for it before he took any action. This gave me, at least, a sense of control over what was happening. Suzie died peacefully and gently. Dr. Mak gave us a lot of time to sit with her, hold her, kiss her, and stroke her before and after the procedure. Finally, when we were ready, he helped us carry her out to his van in her special blanket and we said our last goodbye. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Mak for helping our family end Suzie's life peacefully and compassionately. His knowledge, skill, understanding, and ability to empathize totally with our feelings ensure that we will always remember him fondly. More...
