These guys are great. I brought them a laptop with a broken power button  (which wouldn't turn on). They figured out the problem (which was something else) and fixed it promptly, and for a very fair fee that was much less than buying a new laptop. They are located in Mount Vernon but don't let that scare you if you are in Arlington - they also do house calls. They provide a six-month warranty on any repair. They fix any desktop or laptop, including Macs. They can open the case, figure it out, and fix it (including repairs that involve soldering). Their affiliate, Orlogic Repairs, does logic board repairs.  If your laptop RAM or storage is upgradable, they also do that.  TopTech also has used laptops (Mac and PC), which also have a 6-month warranty. Unlike the used laptops on eBay, Amazon Warehouse or Craigslist, with these laptops you know what you are getting and there is someone who will fix it for free if there are problems. More...

Took my late 2015 iMac in for an issue wherein the machine would shut down randomly....and with increasing frequency. I took it to Apple proper to diagnose. Their diagnostic showed an error with the mem. They recommended I replace all (4) 8m DIMMS (for $350). I then took the machine to UBreakIfix. They ran a diagnostic and couldn't find anything wrong. They suggested I take it home and see if the problem persists. It subsided for a little while. Then reappeared....more severely. I found the Eldest Geek and having read some of their reviews became optimistic that maybe they ACTUALLY know how to do old school problem solving. I took it to them. They put specialist on the problem (opening a modern iMac is tricky). He came back and recommended I replace the power supply (the internal component). $220 and many months later I have an iMac that has performed without issue. Even if the PS replacement wouldn't have worked I still appreciate their approach, due diligence, and recommendation (credibility). More...

I was visiting from out of town and found myself in a jam without a computer. Was resigned to buying a machine from one of the big chains, but my sister sent me to The Geek. I was skeptical but Craig was a godsend! He spent hours with me determining my needs and narrowing down my choices. I left with a much faster and more powerful machine at a lower price than I would have gotten at a chain. And I got quite a bit of education from Craig and his staff. KUDOS! More...

These guys are too good. I woke up one morning to turn on my 2011 iMac and it won't turn on. I did all the trouble shooting I could but non of them worked. I then took it to Apple Store and I was told the power supply had gon bad and needs replacement. The warranty had expired so I divided to pay from my pocket for the power supply replacement. After the replacement the computer won't still turn on. They then told me the mother board had gone bad and needs replacement which will cost cost me more than a thousand dollars. I told them it was too expensive so it will be better to buy a new one. But I love this PC because it was custom built, 3.4 GHz intel core i7 with 32 GB ram.I did an online search for iMac repair shop and Eldest Geek came up and i called them and Craig told me to bring it over for diagnostics and he fixed it. The money I paid was very very very cheap than I expected. Thanks Eldest Geek for your great work. More...

Somehow I completely messed up my Windows 7 operating system on my old Lenovo T430 Thinkpad. Even though I have many years of experience as a web developer, I had no clue how to fix this. I researched as much as I could, but clearly fixing operating systems on laptops is not my forte. Ihad actually bought a laptop from Craig back in October, which is lightning fast, and it was backed by Craig, so Iknew I was getting the real deal. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to play with, as I couldn't bring it with me to Mexico. For this laptop issue, Craig was able to perform a repair on the operating system and it took about 2 hours to complete. Craig and Alex have the most experience thanany other technician in Washington DC, and I wouldn't even think about bringing my computer to anyone else. More...

My wife spilled tea on her new top-of-the-line Retina Macbook, and it fried. Talking with geeks at Apple and Microcenter, the best they could offer was a "deal" on a new machine, and my $3,000 down the drain. Saturday at 6:30 PM I called Craig (the Chief Eldest Geek), not expecting much. He said, "bring it by and let's have a look". Hidden on the second floor of an antique shop (think of movies Wizard of Oz and Gremlins), elbowed between floor-to-ceiling stacks of computers, was the man himself. Craig dropped the bottom cover and showed me how the liquid had gotten deep into the chassis, under the logic board and power supply. Craig said he could fix it, "no doubt" and gave me an estimate, which although steep, was worth it to resurrect my wife's computer (and my wife). It took quite a bit of doing, and he had to replace a handful of logic board components, but sonovagun, Craig did get that machine back up. At home I found that the charging circuit still wasnt working right, and gave it back to Craig for more work at no extra charge (he considered it part of the first repair). This time he got it right; Craig promised that my Mac would be "100% as good as new", and this time it was. MEANWHILE... I had my old spare Macbook die on me ("kernel panic"), conveniently the day my Retina machine was ready for pickup. so I brought it with me. Craig's stepson Alex was holding the fort. Alex popped the cover off and within 30 seconds confirmed that the RAM card was bad. He found a good card in another machine of similar vintage in the pile, slid the good card into my machine and it was back up, with twice the RAM it had originally. I almost had to argue with Alex to take the money for the second repair, which was a very reasonable price. In case you have doubts, these guys are the real deal. Dont let the antique store put you off, these guys have the know-how, tools, and test equipment to do very complex component-level repairs that even Apple doesnt do. And BTW, young Alex has proven to be quite the geek himself! I FINALLY have somewhere to bring my Apple products for expert, old-fashioned REPAIR! Thanks, guys. More...

I am a small business owner and had some trouble with my main computer at work and I was going to miss payroll for my staff as well as not be able to fill a customer's order and Craig and his team saved the day! I am in home improvement and computers are my area of comfort. Craig took his time to help me understand what was happening and what he could do. His price was the best around and I am glad to have found them! I came to the shop and the staff put other things they had going on hold to help me and a few minutes later my computer was fixed! This team gets an A+ across the board! I will use them for all my computer needs! Craig is also helping me put together a website at extremely reasonable price! More...

Look no further for a computer repair expert.  Craig says that he can fix anything, and he proved it to me by fixing my MSI gaming computer that had been sabotaged by a third party reseller and giving me back a machine that runs like a Swiss watch.  Best of all, he did it for WAAAAAY less dinero than Best Buy or MicroCenter would have charged!  I am a totally satisfied customer, and I am certain that you will be too. Originally, I took my Macbook Air to a different business, and after they told me it wasn't fixable, Craig said he could handle it! When I brought it in, he opened the laptop directly in front of me, showed me the water damage that I hadn't seen on my own, and was extremely helpful/knowledgeable. I enjoyed listening to him tell me stories while he assessed my broken laptop, and in the end, he gave me an excellent deal! So this is going to be a long story. TL;DR: Had a really hard hardware problem, Craig and the gang fixed it and went out of their way to see to it I got my computer back in perfect condition.A little while back, I had an HP Probook stop accepting a charge. Simple power supply swap, right? So I tried to fix it myself. That did not help, and actually, chances are excellent that I probably caused greater issues. Some weeks prior, I had noticed in a local antique mall that there was a computer repair and retail store that had setup shop inside. Not where you'd guess a computer repair place would be, but I had spoken to them about an unrelated issue a couple weeks before my issue and they were helpful. I brought my Probook in and they gave me a quote range that was very reasonable that slid based on what was damaged. The specific model is not the most common, so parts are hard to get.Time went by and I was using a backup computer. The guys contacted me and said the computer was ready. I was out of the country at the time, so they held it. When I got back, I paid them for the work and hardware, brought it home, and apparently their hardware supplier gave them an inferior version of the hardware originally in the Probook. It worked, but the performance suffered. I brought it back, and they were able to take it despite my initial delay in picking up. They looked for another component, it was shipped, and it was DOA. So now we have had bad luck with 2 components. Finally, 3rd time, they got a vendor who supplied the correct part, they swapped everything over, and then SENT the computer cross country to me because I was/am not in Alexandria, now.So to recap, for a great price on what the original job was, they found the problem, fixed the problem, replaced a bad component, replaced another bad component, then sent the computer cross country to California. The computer is operating as if it were new, and Craig and his team were communicative and helpful every step of the way. I highly recommend The Eldest Geek to anyone with a potentially difficult computer issue. They warranty their work, they know what they're doing, and I believe they also sell all sorts of computers and accessories if you're in the market, all at very, very reasonable prices. More...

Craig is my go-to guy whenever I have a computer problem--Mac or PC. He is always honest and up front about what might be wrong, how much it might cost to fix it and offers handy suggestions of what to do next. i have bought a refurbished Mac from him and it has worked flawlessly from Day One. He even transferred all my data from my old Mac. I have recommended him to many friends and every one has reported that they had a good experience, too.I'll be seeing him this week with a new battery issue and I'm sure he'll find a solution for me quickly and at a reasonable price. Having experience both in a computer repair shop and as a software developer, I can confidently say that The Eldest Geek is the most honest and fair computer repair shop you're likely to find in northern Virginia. If you're not a computer person and are looking for a shop that's going to use their knowledge to help you, and not cheat you, this is the place.I recently had work done here on a Macbook Pro 15" Retina, through the repair several unexpected problems came up. Craig was easy to communicate with and provided consistent updates on the repair. With the issues that the computer had I would not have been surprised to have gotten a call informing me that the price would be doubling due to the amount of time that had been invested. Through my interactions with Craig and seeing his response to the problems I believe I got a better than normal view of how much integrity this shop is run with.I'll be returning here for any future work I need done and wouldn't hesitate to advise others of the same. I am writing this review from the laptop, 2 months after it got fixed with Craig the Eldest Geek. My macbook pro graphics failed and it never booted... it stopped at the grey screen and nothing happens.. When I took to apple store, they refused to work on it as my laptop is customized with an SSD drive in place of the optical drive. Craig took the laptop for fix, and he took his time, but gave it with the perfect fix that I didn't have to look back. btw he also fixed my iPad2 where the power button was not working..For mac support, he is the go-to person and you won't regret..Also it is good to know that he sells pre-used/refurbished computers at affordable prices at the desired configurations..  I would consider buying from him for my next computer needs based on the trust he earned.. In case you're like me and find yourself wondering...hmmm...is this legit? A computer repair shop in the crowded corner of a dilapidated antique mall? Yes, it's legit. I've brought two separate computers here and had excellent service both times. Once to have fan installed in a Dell all-in-one computer; the other to (ultimately) have a new hard drive installed. Second time took a little longer than either of us expected. (It happens.) But, any time I called for a status update, I got an immediate response and full update. And, even though the job ended up being more extensive than originally thought, they stuck with their estimate. I have recommended this place to neighbors, and happily do so to Yelpers as well. The Eldest Geek Guys are honest, reliable computer experts with excellent customer service that fixed both an HP laptop and an iPod Touch for me.  Located on the 2nd floor of Mt Vernon Antique Center might sound unusual, but once you see their simple yet efficient set-up and get quoted an extremely reasonable price for service, you'll understand the value of low overhead costs.  For someone that has thrown money at cars and boats that were well past their prime, it was refreshing to get an honest and clear assessment of future use/value of my electronic devices from these guys and then decide whether I wanted them serviced. They answered all my questions and were very straightforward and honest about what options I was looking at with my devices.  Both the HP laptop and the iPod Touch still had good use/viability and these guys put them both back to prime working order in less than 24 hours.I wholeheartedly recommend these guys and will only use them in the future to fix my computers/phones/etc.FYI: closed Tuesdays but open every other day including Saturdays and Sundays.  Parking is ample on either side of the building and there is a convenient street behind the building to re-enter traffic safely so you don't have to try to make a left turn out onto the highway. I was in search of hard drive rails that would fit my custom PC and hold my hard drive in place.
