I really enjoyed this place for breakfast. We arrived at the crack of dawn and were the first customers of the day. We loved the ambiance and the place - it was really cool inside. The service was great and the food was fantastic.  I had a custom omelette with Green peppers and mushrooms. My partner had the "farmers only dot omelette." She absolutely loved it. I thought mine was really good as well. Another big plus was the coffee. It was dark and bold with a kick and server hot, not warm like you would find in most diners. Again, a wonderful experience. Perfect spot for a weekday brunch! Toast is a small restaurant with less than 15 tables inside and maybe another 7 outside. We decided to stop in on a rainy day so all seating was inside. When we arrived on a Wednesday around 1pm the restaurant was full. We debated about trying another place because there isn't really a waiting area to stand... so it was a little odd to be standing over everyone while they are finishing their meals, but we decided to stick it out. The wait was maybe 10-15 minutes before some of the bar seating opened up.  I decided to try the toast corned beef hash, and my friends got the bacon fried rice and ham and cheese omelette. All three were served hot and delicious.  Staff was not overly friendly but they took care of us and everything came out perfectly after about 30 minutes. More...

Cute little brunch place in Ferndale. I went on a sunday at around 11 and it was packed. Me and the guy I went with ended up waiting 20 mins outside before we could even get a table. Thankfully it was nice outside!! The wait was worth it though because our waitress was super cool and was willing to take the time to answer any questions about the menu even though it was packed. I ended up ordering a omelet that I could add my own choice ingredients to so I chose spinach, bacon and cheddar cheese. Soo good! He ordered some cinnamon waffle thing and said it was good. We also ordered a cinnamon roll but I personally would not recommend it because it was kind of dry and they used a syrup instead of a glaze on it which threw me off. Overall I would recommend this place and might be back if I ever go to ferndale for brunch again. If you are a person that doesnt like small spaces I would advise you to maybe go somewhere else because this place is tiny and theres not a lot of room between you and the next person. Just saying! Toast is phenomenal. Eclectic eatery with a lively staff and the breakfasts are off the hook. Love this place. Highly recommended. Awesomeness. So, I find myself navigating to Toast, consistently. Just yesterday I ordered the avocado toast with 2 eggs over medium. Well, the eggs were barely over easy and cold. Yuck. No matter. I simply removed the eggs from the deliciousness and fed my soul. I spoke my mind on the eggs, but was clear it was not a big deal. The blessing was is that I had a meal to eat when others don't. Scotty was amazing. I felt guilty for such a trivially matter, but I just can't doeggs under cooked. My boundaries. Which are important to me. I came back in the very next day and moved forward. I actually felt guilty wasting the eggs as there is someone in the world that would have. I digress. Imagine this: bacon crispy, onions carmelized, the GOAT of cheeses...goat cheese, and a sweet ol' surprise...dark cherries! Whaaaat?! All dancing together in Club Egg (going to trademark that name, no one steal it). They paired this with a cinnamon  chalala bread and it was almost like crispy french toast. We went to Toast on a Friday morning and were told to get there before 9:30 as it gets busy. When we arrived there were several tables open and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is small and tight. We sat at a two top and I know the person behind me had difficulty getting out. Having said that, we were seated by the window with natural light and a good view in and out, so no complaint here. We ordered a tangerine mimosa, pineapple juice and coffee. The coffee was great- good flavor. The mimosa was not sweet like I expected but definitely fresh. For breakfast my partner order a blueberry topped French toast (with some kind of cereal batter like captain crunch) while I had the Beet Goes On omelette. Holy moly, it was good! Fresh beets, caramelized onion, goat cheese and arugula with a smear of balsamic. I didn't care for the bacon rice but it came as a side and I wasn't planning on eating it and giving it to my partner so that was fine - she loved it. Toast has been on my list for awhile so I was excited to get to try it this past weekend while in the area as breakfast is my favorite meal. It was already almost full when we got there at 9 am on a Sunday so definitely be prepared for a wait. The place is pretty tiny. We put our name on the list and weren't told how much time it would be, but then two spots opened up at the counter so we snagged those. Our server was super helpful and went over the menu with us when we told her it was our first time there. I ordered the corned beef hash with cheddar jalapeno challah and my boyfriend got the toast Benny with biscuits and a side of bacon fried rice. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was piping hot. My meal was wonderful! Lots of big hunks of meat, plenty of potatoes, and cheese. The toast was great! I loved the light jalapeno flavor. Didn't get a lot of cheddar flavor but it was toasted perfectly. My boyfriend said the biscuits weren't that great and a bad choice for the Benedict as they were really tall and made it hard to eat. I had a bite of the bacon fried rice and it was so delicious! The rice was perfectly sticky and full of tons of great flavor. We were a little bit neglected during our meal; my boyfriend's coffee never got refilled and we ran out of water. It's a little more cramped inside as well, but feels homey. Both usually have long wait times to get a table. Menu items change so there is always something new to try out. I personally really like their Nova Scotia...could be because I really like eggs benedict. I came in a little before noon on a Thursday with a coworker and we managed to get immediate seating at the bar.  This small restaurant seems to always be crowded, which speaks to the quality of the food. There are a lot of unique menu options and they seem willing to accommodate substitutions and customization.  I got the chicken and waffles Benny, but with scrambled eggs instead of poached.  It comes with a crunchy, breaded chicken breast and eggs atop a fluffy waffle.  It's all smothered in a sausage gravy that had a little touch of spicy heat to it.  It comes with real Michigan maple syrup and a choice of side (home fries, bacon fried rice, or grits; you can also get fruit or tomato slices at an additional cost).  The chicken breast was pleasantly crunchy on the outside, even with the gravy all over it, and juicy and tender on the inside.  All the flavors melded together very well - I loved all the sweet and savory contrast happening on my plate.  I also appreciate the fact that I got real maple syrup instead of artificial like a lot of other places.  I will say, it was really thin and watery, so whoever they got it from didn't reduce it enough.  Also, I wish the potatoes were crispy like the name (home fries) implied.  There were a couple of pieces that were browned, but most of them were just like boiled potatoes.    Overall, though, it was a delicious meal!Service was okay - it was really busy, so our waiter just took our order, brought our food, and then brought our checks.  He was friendly and accurate.I would definitely like to come back and try other menu items, especially the many unique varieties of toast they offer!
