I started MBSC Thrive Sports & Fitness training on Oct. 19th at Desert Sports & Fitness,I've never been challenged as much as I have in this 45min training 4x a week, my goal is to get back into pre-op physical shape. The coaches are great & offer alternatives exercises for those with any mobility issues. I'm in the Masters now but hope to be ready for SGT1 by January! “I hate exercise.” I had repeated that mantra to myself for almost 40 years. In that time I managed to eat and not exercise myself up to 270 pounds. Here’s my story. I was morbidly obese, then I was thin, now I am STRONG! After losing 120 pounds and still not exercising I was introduced to Thrive by my friend and triathlete Rebecca Kowalski. Come work out with us she said, okay, I said. Holy crap, I really hate exercise and I do not belong there with those incredible athletes is what I was really thinking. But, I’ll be a sport and show up. From the moment I walked in the door I knew there was something special about Thrive. First and foremost I was welcomed immediately. It wasn’t about how good and strong I was or what I had or hadn’t done in the past, it was about the fact that I showed up with a willingness and desire to improve. Since April I have shown up-each and every Tuesday and Thursday I am at Thrive. Everyday, whatever I’m doing, I’m doing it better because of Thrive. Thrive has become non-negotiable in my life. There are few things in life that bring me more happiness and sense of accomplishment than the end of a workout! Interestingly, in reading a draft of this to Rebecca she reminded me that “I hated to exercise”, I had totally forgotten that this was the truth I told myself for all those years. Now at almost 54 years old, I am in better shape than ever before and the best part is that I am getting better every single day. In closing I’d like to say Thank You to Tom and everyone in the Tues/Thurs class, I cannot remember ever being a part of a more inclusive and supportive group of people. It is not just the jokes, sighs, moans, groans, laughs, and how many?’s, it is the gentle reminders, the hand on my back with the whispered, “straighten your arm”, that make me feel a part of a really special group of people.
