Craig was super nice and quick helping with a ceiling fan motor issue diagnosis and replacement. Recommend!

Craig has helped us twice - with problem solving and changing a number of thermostats at our hot yoga studio (Sacred Brooklyn) and then again with an emergency power outage.  I've had a horrible time with electricians in the past - and I can't recommend him enough.  He's fast, professional, a great communicator, a problem solver, and extremely reasonably priced.  I've had brick and mortar businesses for over 10 years and he is by far the best electrician I have hired. Highly recommend! Craig is the best around: thorough, excellent communicator via email and text, professional, and kind. He came to my apartment three times to switch out a ceiling fixture: first to review the job, and then made me a super easy list of items to buy for the install, including the address and who to speak to when I got there. He even made illustrations so I could understand the mechanism. Next, he came to install the light, which was completed swiftly and with patience while I debated the height. Then, a couple days later, when I had second thoughts I texted him to see if he wouldn't mind coming back to adjust the height, which was not a simple job. He agreed to come back free of charge and was as professional and detailed as ever. It's rare to find people in the service industry that really know their craft and conduct themselves with such generosity. Look no further -- Craig is your guy! More...

I can't recommend Craig and Thour Wiring enough. The timer on our outdoor lights was broken and needed fixing. Craig was extremely responsive, professional, and just generally a pleasure to deal with. After coming by to assess the situation, he provided a detailed quote that was extremely reasonable and clearly stated the work to be done. He finished the job in a timely manner and I'm very pleased with the results. Craig is clearly a hard worker and trustworthy guy, and I'll definitely use him for any future jobs. More...

I saw Thour Wiring on Yelp when I was planning my bathroom renovation. Craig is the owner of Thour Wiring and when I contacted him 8 months ago he got right back to me within a few hours. He listened to my plan and ideas about what I wanted and helped me flesh out what was possible and options on lighting. He has vast knowledge and he is a very good, decent human being along with a GREAT ELECTRICIAN! He came in with his team and they did half the job and because of some unexpected delays I wasn't able to start full renovations until very recently. Long story. However, when I called Craig back to finish the work he answered with my name and remembered the job and said that he would be happy to finish the work. After some scheduling issues (with both of us) Craig came back, finished the job and the lights are beautiful. I highly recommend Thour Wiring for all your electric needs. More...

From first impression to wrapping up the job, Craig was a gentleman, a professional, a competent consultant, and one of the more personable and friendly people I've met in the industry.  I needed to upgrade my electrical from single to double phase and ground my house.  He showed up on time for every interaction and would text me if he was going to be even a couple minutes late.  He explained things thoroughly and was very patient in answering my questions and making sure I understood what he was going to do.  He was well versed in the codes, and offered me all the options I would need to make an informed decision.  He was genuine, very reasonably priced, and did excellent work.  I couldn't recommend him more and plan to use him for all future electrical work.  Finding a punctual, well-priced, well-spoken professional can be tough, he does all of this and is an all around good guy on top of it.  I've never left a yelp review before but he deserves one. I don't usually write reviews but I had to write a review on my great experience with Craig the owner of Thour Wiring. Craig just finished electrical work in our co-op apartment and he and his team did a great job. They were very professional and thorough. I called a lot of electricians and Craig is the most professional that I've found. He answered my initial call within 36 hours, came to our apartment to take a survey of the work we wanted done, then provided us with a written price proposal.  His team is very busy but we were able to schedule the work relatively quickly.  One of the things that sets Craig apart from other electricians I called is that he actually closes the holes he makes in your walls and ceilings and plasters them over, you'll still need to have it sanded and painted but most other electricians leave you with the holes... We live in an older building and had and old fuse box panel that would trip randomly. Craig updated our fuse panel with a 20 circuit panel box, corrected wiring in our master bedroom that was incorrect, created a ceiling lighting source in our 2nd bedroom which never had a light in the room and he also installed the ceiling fan & light fixture in both rooms. He gave us additional outlets in our kitchen and even cut through tile on the kitchen wall to give us outlets in kitchen. He and his team (there was one person with him on our job) were very professional throughout their time in our apartment and very courteous.  They did a great job of cleaning up at the end of each day and even finished the job one day early which was great. I highly recommend Craig to anyone looking for  a great electrician. More...

We had a great experience with Craig and Thour Wiring.  We had small job, but a tight schedule and Craig returned our call promptly and set up an initial inspection of the issue at a convenient time (early morning) for us that allowed us to not take time off work.  We were able to schedule the work quickly.  Craig arrived for each appointment on time and finished the job in under an hour.  The price was reasonable, but more importantly he was prompt and super-professional about the job. I work at a yoga studio in Brooklyn that has a hot room with radiant heating panels hanging from the ceiling.  A few of these heating panels stopped working.  Craig came in for a diagnosis session and figured out that there were a few different problems: how one heating panel was not attached to any electrical wires in the first place; and how a few of them were connected to a faulty thermostat.  He explained everything clearly and did so while doing the diagnosis.  He is very flexible when it comes to his hours and very accommodating.  When the studio received the replacement thermostat, Craig came back shortly after and fixed the problems.Highly recommended. After interviewing a few electricians  in NYC (all of whom I found on Yelp), I decided to hire Craig at Thour Wiring to hang a very complicated chandelier and do a bit of rewiring for an art installation in our apartment in SoHo.  He did an exceptional job and deserves the many 5 star ratings he's received from fellow Yelpers!  He will be my go-to guy for all future electrical projects.  Since I don't live full time in NYC, there were several extra steps of coordination and he was great about working with my very specific schedule.   On the scheduled project day, Craig texted me to advise he was running a little late due to traffic (even though it was only 20 minutes later than we'd scheduled).  Such courtesy is rare these days and I really appreciated that gesture.  Once he and his assistant arrived, they were right on it.  We ran into a few unexpected issues with hiding some cables in the walls for the art installation and Craig came up with a great solution.   His team also did the wall patching which was great - so nice to not have open walls afterward. Just had to hire a painter to finish up the details.  Every aspect of our project was handled with care and respect and he left our apartment neat and clean.Craig runs a great business and I would not hesitate to hire him again. I seldom bother posting a review on Yelp but I feel I must with Craig and his team. He just wrapped up installing ceiling fans and track lighting in my place and the work is amazing. I found Thour Wiring on Yelp and you guys were right! Craig really lives up to his reputation. What I loved:- Customer service: Craig really knows what it means to serve your customer! Right from the start, he was extremely pleasant over the phone (the most friendly amongst all the people I got quotes from, and I got about 8!) and in person, very articulate, clear and communicative, friendly and  patient. I went back and forth with him multiple times before starting work and he never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. He was extremely responsive both on email and on text through the whole process. At the end of the project, we found out that one of the ceiling fans I ordered did not work so I had to get a replacement sent that will arrive later. They uninstalled the fan and packed it nicely back in the box for me to be returned and Craig told me to just let him know when the new fan arrived and he or his workers will come by again to install it with no additional charge. - Reasonably priced: Craig was the mid-range of all the quotes I got, but the low-range quotes seem suspiciously low. He came by to do a proper estimate (many others only gave quotes over the phone) and he kept to it. - Professional: I had an awful experience with a lighting designer/electrician right before I found Craig. That guy was dishonest with me about the budget, and padded his invoice, never signed a contract, didn't provide insurance, etc. As a first time home buyer, I got burnt by him. Craig was, from the start, a refreshing difference. He submitted his estimate to me with a detailed line by line summary of the work that needed to be done and itemized it for me upon my request. We then negotiated the contract and both signed on it (note to all: always have a signed contract!! I didn't with the first electrician I worked with stupidly, and he went and padded his invoice with a whole bunch of stuff I didn't agree to) before the work was done. He sent my condo management a copy of the insurance promptly with no extra charge (not sure if it's common practice to charge for that or not, but I know my movers did).-  Nice team: He had 2 other guys working with him and they were all incredibly friendly. What I did not like:- High deposit: I felt initially that the deposit he required was high (62%), but he was very nice when he explained to me why he needed the high deposit (he had to reserve the time, hire people, get materials, etc), and that he wouldn't jeopardize his good reputation on Yelp for this relatively small contract. In the end, it didn't even matter cos he turned out to be honest, accurate in his estimate, and earned every penny.  - Not so great patching: Because we didn't have any power supply to our concrete ceilings, they had t punch holes in the walls to get power up there. Like what the other poster mentioned, the patching and spackling work wasn't done perfectly, especially around the edges of switches and wiring. BUT, I will say that most other electricians who gave me quotes told me that they do not even do any patching work, and that I had to get a handyman to do it separately. It would have been nice if the spackling was better, but compared to other electricians, the patching work was a value add in itself. I can get a handyman to do the touch up work, or do it myself. - Mess: There was dust everywhere in the house and all over my bed even (yuck). Which is to be expected when the walls are being ripped out. But I felt like they should have used more covers for all my furniture. But I wasn't there during the construction and my husband & kids were, so I don't know if that wasn't done because they were using the furniture? Upon hindsight, I should have requested this after the first day when my entire bed was covered in dust. So just a feedback Craig & team to maybe use more of those awesome plastic covers on all the furniture cos the dust flies everywhere! Also, they left a bunch of empty boxes/trash from the job when I felt it'd have been nice to take the trash with them. But I wasn't there when they wrapped up the job, so I'm not sure if that was deliberate i.e. they thought I might want the original wrapping of stuff just in case. So really, this is a minor minor quibble in an otherwise awesome job. Well done, Craig. You have restored my faith in contractors! You are a gem & I'll definitely recommend you to anyone! More...

Strengths: - Craig is easy to reach by text, email and phone - and easy to talk to. - He's experienced, intelligent and -- this is no small thing -- speaks perfect English. - His electrical work is neat and clean, and he worked with me to find the right solution for my home that was up to code (in re: recessed lights and extra outlets). - His rates are reasonable, and he is a professional.Areas for improvement:- Craig's workers could have left the job site cleaner. Their recessed lighting install left empty boxes, pieces of drywall and extra wire snippets laying around. That being said, the second project at my place Craig undertook all by himself, he cleaned up everything spotlessly! - Could improve their patching and spackling abilities. After the recessed lights (which look beautiful), I decided to do the spackling myself on the second project Craig undertook for me. But I may be pickier than you.I'll sum up by saying that Craig is my go-to electrician at this point, and I recommend him highly. More...

Craig Walthour just finished a small job for us and we're extremely pleased. He completed the job within the time he'd estimated and charged us exactly the estimated cost--which, by our experience, was very reasonable by NYC standards. Also he called the previous day to confirm his appointment and showed up right at the scheduled time. His work was competent (I have some background myself in electrical work) and, unlike other electricians we've had who seemed unconcerned about butchering our walls or ceiling, he minimized and neatly cut the openings he needed. In addition, Craig is very polite and well-spoken; it was a pleasure doing business with him on the personal as well as the techical level. We didn't know Craig before this job (he was referred to us by our managing agent). My husband and I just hired Thour Wiring to upgrade power in our laundry closet.  We got estimates from two companies, and decided to go with Thour not only because we felt their estimate was fair, but because of how personable and professional Craig was when he came to assess the condition.  He also assembled/installed a custom pendant light for us (I bought three individual glass pendants and a canopy, and he retrofitted everything).  When we first explained what we wanted, Craig pulled up some photos of a past job on his phone to show us similar custom lighting work he had done; you can tell he really takes pride in his work and wants to make sure his clients are happy and understand everything it is that he's doing.  He's really great with answering any questions or clarifying the scope of work, as well.  Our light turned out beautifully and the power upgrade was quick.  I am just sorry I don't have more electrical work to be done in my apartment because Craig and his team are truly a pleasure to have around!  I highly recommend him.
