Unfortunately, the Yorkshire Catering Company caused us a lot of stress on our wedding day and beyond. Despite numerous attempts at contact via both email and phone (with only a couple actually being successful as my phone calls were ignored - until I rang from a different number…) we were unable to resolve the issues we faced and felt very let down by Alex’s attitude towards us.
We hired the Yorkshire Catering Company to cater our wedding in October of last year, and were left very disappointed on a number of fronts.
We had chosen a package including a selection of canapes, a buffet-style wedding breakfast, and evening food with a focus on vegetarian options as both myself (the bride) and my husband are veggie. They also stated that they could cater to a couple of allergies & dietary requirements from guests. We had also arranged for the company to provide crockery and cutlery for our wedding cake, which was to be served as dessert.
Our biggest concern was one of health and safety. When it came time to select our food from the main buffet, there was no signage informing guests of which foods adhered to any dietary requirements. When I (and other guests) asked the two staff members who were behind the buffet about this, they didn’t actually know what was vegetarian or gluten free. This was concerning given that it would have been a bit upsetting to have accidentally eaten meat on my wedding day - but of bigger concern was the fact that someone with a gluten intolerance could have been made quite unwell had they chosen the wrong item due to the staff not being informed.
The quality of the food itself was rather lacking overall (I appreciate that we’d gone for a ‘budget’ option, but I did expect it to be considerably better than it was).
Once our main meal was cleared away, we expected the cake to be served as arranged - but unfortunately this wasn’t the case. Laura, the venue owner, had to come and ask me what the plan was with the cake because neither the Yorkshire Catering Company’s chef nor the other two staff members seemed to know. My Mum and I then had to try and figure out with Laura how we could serve the cake with no plates or cutlery - we all ended up eating it off napkins with our hands (a little risky when you’re wearing a white dress!). I was disappointed that I had to deal with this myself on my wedding day, as I didn’t feel I should have to be responsible for keeping the catering running smoothly.
Finally, we experienced even more issues with the evening food. We’d arranged for the evening food to be served around 8pm, but after speaking with the venue owner I learned that the staff had tried to put the food out at 6.40pm. Venue staff had to stop them from doing this and send it back to the kitchen. The next thing we knew, they’d put the food out at 7.30pm without telling anyone - so the food sat out at the back for half an hour while the band played before people realised it was there, by which point it was cold and soggy. Again, there was no information about dietary requirements (and no staff to inform anyone) so it was just another health and safety gamble for people - not to mention that there didn’t seem to be enough food to serve all 79 guests.
Not long after the wedding, I emailed Alex with my complaint - I received no response, despite chasing it up multiple times. Eventually I managed to get through to her on the phone weeks later, where I was told they were just too busy to deal with my complaint. I did get an email response after a few more attempts at chasing things up, where Alex stated that they felt they had ‘delivered your catering to a standard and reflected your price paid.’ I replied addressing the points she had made in her email, and never received a response.
I’d really, really suggest heeding the other poor reviews and staying well away - they’re unpleasant to deal with, seem very unorganised and clearly don’t care about any level of customer care - as long as they’ve got your money, they’re happy!

We selected to use this company for our son’s wedding in May 2022, after sampling the tasting menu at their Victoria Gate premises near John Lewis in Leeds.
The food presented was outstanding on every level, presentation, flavor and produce quality.
The praise starts and ends there, as I’m sure that you will appreciate the disappointment and upset created when the food presented on the big day resembled nothing in comparison. Over half the 110 guests had chosen the chicken dish option, including the groom. The chicken was seriously overcooked and very dry, the roast potatoes were undercooked and hard, carrots were tasteless missing the maple and rosemary glaze, with the honey roasted parsnips nowhere to be seen! The tomato and pepper sauce for the chicken, looked and tasted exactly like the tomato soup served to us as a starter, all in all a disaster.
Had this meal been presented in any restaurant or diner, it would have been sent straight back to the kitchen, but on a Wedding Day you can only make your point and take things up afterwards with the powers that be…
That was also a very disappointing experience as they were very defensive, challenging everything we said and asking for photographic evidence….. what kind of customer service is this?
The final insult came when they offered a 3% discount as a goodwill gesture …. which was swiftly refused and the end of communication with them …….. hence this review, as we would hate anyone else to experience similar disappointing and upsetting circumstances.

Avoid this company.
We used this company to cater our wedding, they started out fairly quick to respond and we enjoyed the option to have the taster menu to see the dishes.
Unfortunately after they had the deposit it all went down hill. Communication was very difficult as the wedding approached and it took several calls/emails and over a week before replies arrived. When we asked for confirmation of what food we had ordered the items they said were different to the items we had requested (and was on the emails prior).
On the day of the wedding the food we had ordered like another reviewer has mentioned, did not match what was served. The starter was completely different to the taster in both layout and content, the pate starter which was 3 types (meat,veg,cheese) was now just 3 same coloured meats....the mains was not presented very well and just dumped on the plate, when you're sat on the top table and embarrassed as you see your guests served not what they had selected it really ruins your day.
We also had a lot of toddlers coming to the wedding so we purchased cutlery and they agreed to put it on the table, when we asked for the cutlery back a few days later they said it's gone missing and they'd try and find it, 3 weeks later still nothing and £50 down.
Just avoid this company, there's plenty of others so don't risk it.

Following our wedding which took place at The Civic in Barnsley Sunday afternoon, I have to raise some concerns regarding the service received from your Company.
I was informed by Zowie and my wedding coordinator who Zowie had liaised with, that the ovens, cutlery, plates and napkins would all be delivered Friday 13th August. Unfortunately this never happened and when I spoke with Zowie to find out why, I was informed that there had been a delay on another job. I was then informed that everything would be arriving at 10am on the day of the wedding.
At 10am on the day of the wedding I was contacted by my wedding coordinator to advise that no ovens or food had been delivered, and he asked me for the number of the delivery driver which Zowie had previously sent, so he could chase this up. I spoke with Zowie who advised she had given me the incorrect time, and the ovens / food wouldn’t be delivered until approx. 12:00. Ultimately, everything was delivered as my guests were starting to arrive.
Unfortunately the food that was served was not as advertised. Please see below the problems that we had:
- The starter chosen from the brochure was advertised as follows: prawn cocktail with fresh crab dressed with mix leaf / cherry toms & topped with Marie Rosie sauce. When the starter came, there was no crab and no cherry tomatoes. The starter was a bed of lettuce with prawns on top, with the Marie Rosie sauce and lemon slices.
- The main chosen from the brochure was advertised as follows: roasted chicken breast wrapped with parma ham and stuffed with mozzarella served with new potato’s and seasonal veg. The chicken that came was wrapped with parma ham, however it was not stuffed with mozzarella and there was no mozzarella on the main meal at all. It was also topped with a tomato sauce, which if was advertised that way, I would have had removed from some people’s mains, as they don’t like the taste of tomato.
- 5 prawn cocktail starters were substituted for vegetable samosas, due to shellfish allergies. When the main meals were served, the 5 people who were given alternative starters, then had vegetarian meals served despite this not being requested. When I spoke to one of the waitresses about this, they explained it was a mistake on their part and that Zowie had incorrectly marked those 5 people as being vegetarian.
In addition to the food not being as advertised, the quality was poor when it came to the main meal. The chicken had very clearly been cooked off site and just reheated in the oven, as the chicken was dried out and difficult to chew. Based on what time the ovens were delivered, and the fact that I walked through the kitchen area at around 13.15 and the oven wasn’t even lit or the food prepped, there was not enough time in the 1 HR period before food was served, to cook 50 main chicken dishes from fresh, leading to the poor quality of food. I feel that the ‘rush job’ due to a lack of timely preparation has lead to mistakes such as the starter and main food being wrong, as well as a poor quality standard.
In addition, in relation to the 5 vegetarian meals mentioned above, when this was flagged as being wrong, 5 main chicken dishes were then delivered in place of the vegetarian meals. Due to the concerns over the quality of food, I have further belief that the meals were just reheated on site leading to a poor quality meal, as the 5 chicken dishes were served in place of the vegetarian meals within 5 minutes, which does not allow time for cooking from fresh.
I am very disappointed that this has been the experience for my wedding meal. Up to Friday, everyone I had been in contact with from your Company had been helpful and pro-active, however the lack of timely preparation and thorough quality checks has lead to a poor experience.

The Yorkshire Catering Company catered at our wedding on 21 September 2019. From the moment I first contacted Alex, we were totally reassured and felt certain that nothing would be too much trouble. We enjoyed a fabulous tasting afternoon with the lovely Zowie and were made to feel really special. We got married at the Town Hall and had our celebration back at home. We really cannot praise Alex and Zowie enough for everything they did to make our day go so smoothly. The little touches were so thoughtful and the food just amazing. When I first contacted Alex we wondered if we'd have to choose from a set package - nothing of the sort! We were able to say exactly what we wanted and it was done to perfection. They worked incredibly hard and our guests were very impressed indeed. We cannot recommend The Yorkshire Catering Company highly enough. The moment we booked Alex and her team to do our wedding catering we knew we was in good hands. Their passion for food and catering is amazing, they were full of brilliant ideas but with a chilled no fuss approach. The food on the day was incredible, the staff were so kind and thoughtful they even made vegan canapés which we didn’t even ask for and kept making sure me and my new husband were eating when so busy speaking to everyone. We hired Yorkshire Catering Company for our wedding in February 2018. Alex worked to our brief exactly, and from the second we tasted her samosas, dips, chapatis and curries we knew this was the caterer for us. On the day itself Alex was working with limited kitchen facilities in a village-hall type set up, yet all the food for 75 people was piping hot and truly delicious. The presentation of the food was great too, and Alex provided lovely glass plates and cutlery. There were so many compliments about the food on the night, and Alex made the whole thing stress free; setting up with no assistance or questions, speedy food service with a smile, and a thorough clean-up. Fabulous! I chose to use The Yorkshire Catering Company to cater for our Christmas Party.The feedback form everyone was 'excellent food'! ! We had a beautiful buffet with both savory and dessert options and there was such a great choice of things to eat - everyone's tastes were catered for. We also had a lactose intolerant guest and a pregnant guest and Alex made sure there was plenty of choice to suit them both. The homemade cheesecake was to die for! Fantastic catering for our annual work conference. Wonderful buffet lunch with sandwiches, mezze boards and savoury pastries, followed by homemade cheesecakes and traybakes for dessert.
