StrawberryToo's young and dynamic team are the friendliest bunch I have worked with. They have a great eye for brand and all of their work is in keeping, and they listen to your needs on each individual project returning it with beautiful, functional design (and always on time even when under pressure! ). They continue to impress after working together for over three years, their rates are affordable, and it feels good for the business to be growing alongside this team. More...

He's always efficient, always does what he says he will, and never needs chasing - which saves me time and agro! I'd recommend James and all the guys there to anyone wanting to promote their business online. More...

Q&As

These are the six core principles of what makes a great website. Follow these principles and you'll be in good hands:

PLAN EVERYTHING: As the old saying goes, "failiure to plan is planning to failiure".

CHOOSE A GOAL: Goals clarify. Establish a goal for your website and always refer back to it; consistently asking yourself, "is this page / image / text helping accomplish the goal?"

DON’T MAKE VISITORS THINK: Websites are meant to be used, so they should be clear and intuitive. Visitors shouldn't have to think in order to use your website.

SIMPLE NAVIGATION: Think of your website’s navigation like elevator buttons: people are using it to get somewhere. So navigation should be easy to use and put in a consistent place.

BE HUMAN: Human works on the internet. Make it clear that there is a real, live human behind your website. People will respond to that.

LESS IS MORE: People don’t read websites, they browse websites. So distill your website down to the essentials. Less is more.

My time at Google opened my eyes to what was possible in the emerging digital age. The idea of a company where you could wear what clothes made you comfortable, work whatever hours you wanted, and everyone from the founders to the cleaners all ate and worked together was truly inspirational to me, as at that time all I knew was the grey suit and 9-5 offices of the UK at that time.

When after 5 years I finally decided to head back to the UK, it seemed natural to launch my own company based on the principals that I experienced at Google. The sheer excitement of those early days in an industry that wasnt even born, doing things in the most unconventional ways, was incredibly inspirational, and I am still as excited today to keep evolving alongside the technologies we work with.

The Web Specialists was originally formed in 2003 by former Google employee Kevin Gray. Kevin joined Google in November 1998 as their first Senior Search Specialist (and also their first overseas employee), and was their 43rd employee on the roster working alongside founder Sergey Brin and Larry Page, as well as Eric Shmidt and Nikesh Arora. Whilst at Google Kevin was primarily focused on the evolution of the search algorithm and the establishment of different search techniques to enhance the brand. This provided a unique insight into the workings of the Google algorithm, and as a result Kevin is now widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on the intricacies of the Google algorithm outside of the company itself.

Services

Online marketing, specifically Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), can be seen as a dark art; but it doesn't have to be. We're constantly assessing the needs of our clients and ensuring we do all we can to break down our work into logical steps; providing reasoned recommendations to educate our clients.

Like our clients, at The Web Specialists, we understand the importance of the organic channel and we take it very seriously; keeping abreast of the ever-changing landscape of our client businesses as well as Google's algorithms, ensures we provide forward-thinking advice and strategies. We've worked on diverse projects for businesses operating in a wide range of marketplaces. While many come with their own unique challenges, we thrive on this and on delivering positive impacts for our client's online marketing; which in turn, has fostered many long-term partnerships.

What a user sees when visiting a website and what search engines like Google see are two very different things; beautiful sites don't always have a beautiful codebase – we're here to fix that. Search engines look for 'clues' as to the purpose of a web page and a site in general. Therefore it's important to make this as clear as possible. Through this crawl of a website, a search bot will determine a website's structure, its quality and therefore where it should rank. Our technical site mechanics love nothing more than getting into a website and ensuring all the code is optimised and search engine friendly.

Once considered a 'passing fad' the role of social media continues to develop and grow as an integral part of a company's overall online marketing strategy. Alongside our organic and paid search offerings social media provides our clients another platform to not only attract new business, but as a resource to foster and build upon relationships with customers in online spaces they use most frequently.

At The Web Specialists we understand the potential of social media beyond its use as another marketing channel. By building closer relationships and engaging more directly with your customers you show more of the personality and the values of your business, which in turn creates stronger relationships with one-time consumers who in time become loyal brand advocates.

The Web Specialists can help your business setup its social presence as well as managing the ongoing strategy as effectively and efficiently as possible. Our in house social media specialists work with you to ensure that together we create a positive representation of your brand from the start. People are already talking about your brand, and you need to be part of that conversation.

Although one of the best things about social media is that it happens in real time, the importance of a content schedule cannot be understated. In a busy company the distractions of our daily workload can limit the time available for ad-hoc tweets or Instagram photos. At The Web Specialists we recommend implementing a structured content plan to ensure that original, fun and engaging content is published on a regular basis. This can then be supplemented with time relevant content as the need or desire arises.

Introducing a paid search campaign into your marketing strategy can be a challenge. The variety of options available alongside the type of targeting and avenues you wish to take all have to be taken into consideration. Our paid search team is always evolving, gaining knowledge, building Google partnerships and extending our client base in a range of marketplaces. We work tirelessly to deliver our clients the best service that improves their pay-per-click advertising, maximises their return on investment and delivers greater profit to the business.

Our strategies are formed around the client and their target audience, forging a paid search campaign to suit their market, making the best use of the various paid search channels including search, display, shopping feeds and more. We work closely with our clients to ensure we get the best out of your account, working towards the specific goals and targets set.

At The Web Specialists we don't just stick to paid search ad campaigns. We have skilled individuals, in-house, that cover all corners of the paid advertising spectrum, not just Google, but other platforms including Bing and Facebook. We also bring a wealth of experience in maximising the potential in various advertising channels such as display, shopping, mobile specific campaigns and much more. A multi-channel approach tailored to your requirements is what we do best, making the most of the available tool set and striving to deliver the best results possible, making sure that your business targets are achieved, as well as obtaining a broader brand awareness and a larger, repeat customer base.

There’s more to this than you think: An effective website must not only attract visitors, but convert those visitors to customers too. Your website is at the center of your online marketing strategy and all your other marketing activities are designed to drive visitors to it while the main purpose of your website is to convert those visitors into customers. There is no point spending pots of money on driving visitors to your site if you cannot achieve a consistent rate of conversion. So the better the Website the better your rate of conversion and this holds true whatever your particular market may be. If you’re looking to building your first website or need to improve on an existing one there are a few basic principles of web design you should know.

There are many people out there who advertise as Web designers that have a basic knowledge of coding and can build you a site with lots of information, graphics and contact pages, but ask yourself without proper planning will that on its own help those visitors become customers? It’s unlikely. What is needed is a serious approach to the design process and that’s where The Web Specialists come in.

Here at The Web Specialists we take our work seriously, but we don’t let that stop us having fun. In fact, we’ve learned from experience that a bit of fun produces better work. That’s why we’re one big happy family, not just a department that churns out work. Our website development department offer a unique combination of cutting-edge technology, hands-on experience and aesthetic know how. As a result this means that we create online experiences which are user friendly, effective and visually stunning.

Analysis: Who and what is your Website for? We will work with you to identify the purpose of your website what you would like it to say and what visitors you want to attract.

Planning: Defining the basic structure, building a sitemap and selecting the technologies we will use to design your website.

Design: This is where we will build the wire frame models and choose the visual style while also focusing on usability and the overall customer experience.

Content: There is an old saying “content is king” we will work with you to produce the right text, images and or video all optimised for both users and search engines.

Responsiveness: This is where we apply the principles of responsive design to create the website using all the technologies at our disposal to make your website accessible across the full range of devices.

Testing: Before launching your site we test it for functionality and compatibility across all the major browsers .We will also check to confirm that the website really fulfils its remit.

Deployment: Now it is time to get the website actually out on the World Wide Web, and we will ensure this is done without incident or unnecessary downtime.

Maintenance: Lastly now your website is live we can monitor performance, fix any possible problems if required, and we can also maintain and update the site in the future.

Fact: 81% of all shoppers will research products or services online before purchasing because they believe online offers better value. Have you ever thought about how cool would it be to have your own online store? Selling products or services to people all over the country, or even whole world? E-Commerce can seem like a crowded market, but it’s still a growing field with an increasing share in global shopping every year. So no worries, it’s never too late to hop in! Starting your online business is actually much easier than going the old offline way. Remember that the internet doesn’t limit you in terms of location, and whilst some die hard businesses still resist because they are worried that eCommerce websites are complex and need a programmer to watch them 24/7; this couldn’t be further from the truth.

An eCommerce website from The Web Specialists offers total customisation so that your web platform fits your requirements perfectly, and works in the way you and your business are used to operating. A system that anyone can use, and with all the features you need. We can even provide on-site training to demonstrate just how simple it can be. Our system works the way you do. It is intuitive and has only the options you need to get the job done. The easy to use interface of an eCommerce website from The Web Specialists will give you full control of your web content.

For example, let’s say you live in a wine-producing region and you want to sell your delicious wine. Selling it traditionally, through a local store, would be pretty challenging because of the tough regional competition. But having your own e-Commerce site would be a game-changer, enabling you to sell wherever you want. And that’s a HUGE difference! Suddenly, your business has got many other advantages… like online marketing tools, social media, personalised deals and offers, never-ending open hours, discretion and privacy, a broader customer base and much more! However, no matter what you intend to sell, one thing is really crucial here. And that is the online store itself. But no worries, since that’s where we come into play! Online business doesn’t have to be difficult if you put it in the hands of professionals. And obviously by that I mean our hands.

A successful online store has to be better than the competition. The reason why we believe our stores are better is that all of them respect these seven key elements:

Deep Analysis: This will usually be about the ideal target group of customers, their specifics, how to reach it, and what could be expected from this sales wise.

Good Design: Too many designers focus just on the homepage. Yes the homepage is important, but most customers will enter a store through search engines directly to some of the products. That’s why our focus is also strongly oriented to product description pages, call-to-action buttons and easy navigation through the site.

SEO: Content is king. In the e-Commerce business, this is true more than anywhere else. However, you can only exploit the full potential of your site’s content if it’s properly Search Engine Optimized. No problem there … leave the SEO magic to us.

Social Media: Just one example to give you an idea: Give your customers the opportunity to share their purchases with friends on social networks and watch the number of sales and new customers grow. Social media is a must these days for all eCommerce websites looking to add value.

Product Search: The worst thing is when a customer searches for something you actually sell but can’t find it. No worries, this will never happen in our stores, since we’ve put a lot of attention to the search engine functionality.

Fully Responsive: Every year the number of goods sold through smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices grows enormously, and so you bet our all our eCommerce websites are 100% mobile friendly.

Security: It is one of our highest priorities to treat sensitive personal data the right way. Secure storage of such information is essential for your store’s trustworthiness. That’s why all our e-commerce sites use state of the art security technologies.

Support: Online business doesn’t have to be difficult, but there may be times where you are unsure which way to turn. This support is crucial in getting you moving, and with us you can rest assured that you put it in the hands of professionals.
