There was a lot to like about this motel. It was clean and conveniently located next to Trader Joes. With a microwave and fridge in the room, this made it easy to fix my own meals and save money on eating out. ||||A few negatives, the room and bedding smelled strongly of fragrance - air freshener or laundry products. Not my preference. And the motel building is old and somewhat dingy, not as bright and cheery as the photos. Also the door to my room didn't close well, the lock was a little wonky and the vertical blinds had gaps so not completely private when closed. ||||Still, the motel was affordable and quiet. The five-dot ranking is not because the University Inn is a luxury hotel but it offers a very good service compared to its price. I particularly liked the style of the hotel that reminds of the 1970/1980 US-motel concept. The rooms are decent in size with two big very comfortable beds. The room is perfectly clean. Plenty of towels in the bathroom and the wifi is excellent (something that often lacks in more expensive hotels). Staff is very friendly; even lent me their own iPhone charger when my EU/US converter plug did not work and my iPhone ran out of power. Reminded me of the trips we took as a child... staying in motels, where you parked right outside the door to the room!! University Inn is small (~60 rooms), quiet (they enforce a 10:30 quiet time rule), conveniently located, and very affordable. Very "no frills". The front desk staff are friendly and accommodating, and eager to make your stay pleasant. The complimentary continental breakfast is basic... coffee, juices, breads, and a couple pastry offerings. The room, while dated and a mish-mash of decor, it was clean, the bed was VERY comfortable, and the bathroom was clean with a nice supply of towels. However, the pictures on their website were nothing like the 2 rooms we experienced. With that said, we would definitely stay there again should we ever go back to Ann Arbor. More...

Nice hotel for the price. Easy access to U of M hospital and places to eat, etc. I was traveling with my mother for medical purposes. Room was clean, smelled clean and area felt safe. My only “negative” remarks would be breakfast was VERY lackluster. Not much choice and the bread for toast was actually moldy. Not a big deal for my mom and I as we had things to eat for breakfast but if you’re traveling with children, it could be a problem. Also, the hot water in the shower was very unregulated. One minute warm, the next scalding hot without warning. We made due but again, with kids this could be a huge problem. Neither of those would prevent me from booking again. More...
