Super hot food and lovely pot of tea. The waitress was so kind and thoughtful and the restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere. I haven't stayed here but imagine it is equally lovely. More...

Sunday 25th March. My wife and I, with a small family group, celebrated our Diamond Wedding anniversary.
The Meal had a fine variation of choice. All beautifully presented and served. The staff were cheerful and efficient.
Then to top it all we were given a rose bush as a Diamond Wedding
Memento from the Swan Hotel. Thank you all for a lovely day. LW

We booked for our wedding anniversary on March 1st and arrived in Hay in the snow, little did we know we would be staying longer as the snow fell and roads closed but. ......what a treat!
Fabulous hotel, wonderful staff (sorry not to mention everyone by name in case I miss anyone!) We were snowed in to the car park and loved the atmosphere of this old coaching inn with wood fires and olde Georgian design. Modernised or refurbished recently the room we stayed in was beautiful and nothing was too much trouble.
The chef (Brian) made us some exquisite foods and when we got home we longed to be back there!
The staff joined together to extricate our car from the car park and we ate, drank, slept and loved our wedding anniversary spent here.
We will come back to see you again in better weather.
Thank you all.

We found the hotel at random while looking for a backup plan after a failed camping attempt that ended in the snow. We needed somewhere that would accept us and mainly our dog on short notice. As soon as we called to check for availablity, the staff was very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were shown to our room which was in a separate building just across the courtyard, this was due to being in a pet friendly room. They keep them separate due to people's allergies which I thought was a very good concept. The room was very nice and had everything that we needed, maybe a dog bed or something for the dog would have been nice seeing as those are designed to be dog friendly rooms. In our case we had all the gear we needed but it might not be the case for everyone. We had booked a table in the bar area so our dog could be with us as they are not allowed in the restaurant. It turned out to be very nice, warm and quiet. I thought the bar was even better than the restaurant room looked. The food was absolutely amazing ! I mean we did not expect that kind of standard both in the presentation and the quality of the food. We even took pictures of our food is was so pretty, which I we never do. The prices are also very reasonable for the portion sizes. We had starters and mains and could not make it to dessert we were so full. We ate breakfast in the same place and it was great. You have the choice of a warm item on the menu and you then have a buffet as well. I had a full English while my partner had American pancakes. The service during both our meals was great and same for the reception staff who were very nice and always made sure we had all we needed. The only thing that could improve is more knowledge of the area around as we asked for places to go walk and two people at the reception desk didn't know as they were not from the area themselves. All in all this was a great experience, my partner, our dog and myself really enjoyed our stay there and we would definitely be back should we find ourselves in the area again. More...

Wonderful Sunday lunch! My wife and I visited the beautiful town of Hay-on-Wye on a drizzly Sunday. Following a walk around the town we decided to visit The Swan at Hay Hotel for a traditional Sunday lunch. Parking at the rear was easy and very convenient. The staff were very welcoming and gave us the option of dining in the bar or restaurant. We chose the more traditional looking dining room which was very elegant. We both ordered the soup of the day which was Sweet Potato and Chilli. We then ordered the beef Sunday lunch. The soup was amazing and probably the most tasty SP soup I've had. The red bread roll was unusual but warm and tasty. The Sunday lunch was also of the highest order with beef that melted in the mouth. Would recommend if you want great food, excellent service and good prices in a quaint environment. More...

If you have ever thought you might like to spend a weekend in Hay, this is the place to stay. A quiet bar and an open fire is the perfect reading environment.

Went here for a wedding. The venue was lovely, and staff were polite. The bride and groom were very happy with their choice of venue.

The Swan at Hay was taken over by Llangoed Hall. It is a beautiful old building in the middle of Hay. It required a refurbishment which they undertook over the next couple of years. The dominant colour of mushroom very popular with modern establishments is used extensively throughout the property. We ate from their bar menu, soup followed by rump steak burger and fries. Just under £20 for the 2 so still fairly expensive. More...

Good Sunday lunch, nice cuts of beef. Starter overly pretentious and not as expected. I had a small tepid/cold egg with a teaspoon of chopped raw mushroom and some shavings of black pudding. Maybe inspired, certainly different, but very much not to my taste, and it was gone in one mouthful... I wish i'd gone for the soup. Everyone else was happy with their choice of starter and the fresh bread was interesting.

My only complaint is why they have a Sunday lunch menu on the outside which is different from the one on the inside. I can understand the menu changing weekly but the one outside should reflect what you actually serve. I'd already chosen off the one outside, when we'd ordered our drinks we had a different menu as such I had to order something I didn't really like.

Went to the Swan as a table of 15 for Sunday lunch. The building and gardens were lovely. The staff were very polite and welcoming, the food was delicious and arrived quickly despite the fact we were unable to completely pre-order.
I would unreservedly recommend for Sunday lunch.

If you're looking for the country boutique hotel then look elsewhere but what you'll get is exceptionally welcoming and friendly staff and comfortable spacious rooms, potentially with great views of the surrounding hills. You've the Black Mountains and the Brecons on your doorstep, book shops galore in Hay.

We eat in the restaurant on the Saturday night, the chef devised sample menu. If you don't like some strong acidic background flavours in your food then go for the other menus.

Should we return to Hay, I'd happily stop in The Swan.
