Nice place with comfortable rooms, but beware lots of weddings, conferences which can get out of hand, and no nice lounges. An upmarket pub! Value varies.

The food was of gourmet standard. I wish there had been more choices than the handful on the printed menu. There are no daily specials nor is there a menu on a blackboard. The inn does not dissapoint. It is wonderfully Tudor in the bar area plus there is a fire. Go back into the main building and it is slightly above Travelodge in fact I rate Travelodge rooms better. The food is expensive but if you consider the ambience and the quality it is reasonable. The rooms are poor value. In the winter you have the place to yourself and it is nice. Went in for some lunch and a drink, it seemed very popular and a little on the pricey side at first but the food was fantastic and the staff were really friendly and I enjoyed my visit, I would recommend but not if you're paying for a whole family and you want to keep the bill under £100

Price is a bit too high for a country pub, but then again food is better than a country pub too.
To me this place is successful at translating history to revenue in a small wonderful town.

We stayed for one night while taking a minibreak tour in Sussex. Alfriston as a village is a worthwhile stop in any case, fantastic location and very pretty place woth lots to do and see. The Star Inn is really good, easy check in, great staff, very comfortable room, a pub (a decent pub not hotel bar) and restaurant. Food was good, my meaty offering was fresh and balanced, dearly beloved had the veggie option and thoroughly enjoyed it (we both wanted the Hake but it'd gone, actually I take this as a good thing) haddock at breakfast was perfect. And they made a great fuss of our dog too. All up really good, there are always things that could be better but in truth these were trivial and in no way interfered with our stay.
