Stopped for a sandwich. Refurbished, cozy, nice staff. Had a prawn sandwich and a chicken sandwich that both tasted like they were made with (too much of) the same mayo.

Stayed overnight in our camper van and had a meal with family. All four of us thought the food was excellent, the chef obviously takes great care in the preparation and presentation of food. Very reasonably priced with very friendly and attentive staff. The interior is decorated in a very fresh and modern style which was a pleasant surprise. The option on the main course menu for smaller appetites was great as it gave you the chance to try the starters as well as a main course. Complimentary home baked bread and dips was a nice touch. I would highly recommend this restaurant. More...

My wife and I stopped in on our way home to the Scottish borders after being told the restaurant had been recently renovated. So glad we did. The new decor is smart and fresh with the restaurant boasting big, comfortable dining seats. I had the posh macaroni and my wife had the homemade fish cakes, both from the specials menu. Couldn't fault a thing from the presentation to the taste. Lovely, friendly staff too and a family business who seem to really care about the quality and service they are looking to provide. Thoroughly recommend a visit here and look forward to stopping in again soon. Although I wasn't a hotel guest, we were told the rooms have recently been renovated too. If done to the same standards as restaurant area I don't think there will be much to fault on. More...

Made to feel comfortable in a makeshift food area due to refurbishment, but the food was up to its usual high standards. Friendly staff and a roaring coal fire added to the atmosphere More...

Great food. Spacious restaurant area. A wee bit out the road. No idea what the rooms are like as we didn't stay over.

The hotel is still undergoing refurbishment but so far it looks amazing, rooms are lovely and really cheap! Plenty parking space too, only downside is that it's on the A68 which can be very busy

Go every now and then for something to eat. The food is lovely, staff friendly and helpful but the restaurant/lounge is tired and in need of some attention. For its location and condition, it may be slightly overpriced. We had a main, shared a desert and one drink each (there were 2 of us) and it came to £55 so £60 with a tip. Has an open fire which helps create a chat atmosphere in those cold winter evenings. The venue also does wedding packages and had overnight rooms. More...

We visit regularly for afternoon tea and scones etc out in the grounds. A few garden toys keep family happy. I understand meals are marvellous.

Good points:
Nicely refurbished rooms, very nicely decorated. Decent bathroom, comfy bed. USB outlet sockets in the room (very very useful!
) Excellent food, lovely breakfast. Good pricing. Friendly and helpful staff.
Less good points:
Tatty looking communal areas with threadbare carpets, fillered-and-not-painted walls and a generally very worn-out feel. Some of the tables in the restaurant are completely knackered and the floor in the bar area is dire. Also, oddly, no shaver point in the room anywhere.
If the communal areas were refurbished to the same (high) standard as the rooms this would be a fabulous place. Despite the desperate need for that work to be done, I have been back twice here and it would be my first choice if in the area again.
