Christmas Day menu, sitting at 3pm, was in a conservatory, great service, paced well, waitresses really switched on, starters lovely, mains, as a car very was mediocre, but allowance for Xmas day, and dessert nice, very attentive staff, even when I mentioned loo roll had run out, they responded promptly, first Xmas lunch out ever, and me and my daughter liked it , great service on a very demanding service, well done and thank you. .... I would say definitely don't judge the place by the outside, the inside is adorable, nicely spaced out, clean, and a perfect atmosphere for a date night. The staff was attentive and the service was great. The carvery looked amazing, but we did order from the menu and the pies, ribs and pudding was brilliant. Healthy portions left us very satisfied. Second visit in 7 days..we couldn't wait to return and it didn't disappoint. We both had home made pie..it was superb..more meat than pie as it should be. .nice fresh vegetables...fab range of desserts too good to pass by..also decaf coffee without fuss...we are boat owners in Ely but don't live here...we wish there was something like this restaurant at home...well done...see you again soon..also noticed you are a hotel...will check that out in the future. Great Sunday carvery. I could cut the beef with a spoon, so tender and loads of it. Bit disappointed I didn’t have room for pudding. Nice pint of Charlie Wells Eagle.

Maybe at one point the restaurant had a few bad reviews but now it is very nice,everything is improved,the staff lovely as always and the food incredibly good,also I would kill for those delicious desserts,there is no way to go to The High Flyer and find nothing to eat because the menu has something for any taste,they are vegan and vegetarian friendly,also you can find gluten free and dairy free menus or when you book you can let them know what dish you would like the have and they will do it (applies only for costumers with special dietary requirements),Carvery is fantastic,you find it on every day of the week not only on Sunday. The interior looks very interesting and it just makes you feel cosy,there is the coffee shop which is very quiet,perfect for a tea and a good book,business meeting or a date.
The outside area is good for smokers and if you live in Ely you know that not a lot pubs/restaurants have a place where costumers can sit down,drink a coffee and smoke a cigarette,in the summer looks even better.
It is very clean,the cleanliness in the loos amazed me.
I will totally go there any time I will get the chance. Keep up the good work High Flyer,you are the best! Xx More...

Two friends and I had lunch on Tuesday, we were pleasantly surprised, none of us had been for several years,the decor is modern, and the food is exceptional, we all ended up with the carvery as it smelled and looked so good, we were not disappointed. We had a lovely time here yesterday, I'm quite shocked to see the bad reviews as I can't think of anything negative! We didn't have a reservation so sat in the bar area and ordered lunch. I had just picked up a new bike from Norwich and was cruising around with a mate and found The High Flyer by accident. First thoughts were oh bloody hell this looks posh and dear. Just returned from Christmas lunch with my brother and his partner. We loved the decor, and tasteful decorations. We had a 12. 00 booking and it would appear is if people were given different times to arrive which worked perfectly. No big queues and quiet enough to hear our conversation, but enough people around to make a great atmosphere. We were shown to our table and offered a glass of mulled wine, which was delicious! Our starters arrived in good time and we had a very enjoyable meal over about 2 hours or so. Staff so friendly and smiley, in particular Conrad who was our main server. We visited yesterday for Mothers Day and were so pleased!! After not being to the pub for many years we couldn't believe the change. Its fantastic and a really lovely place to be.

Every single meal was perfect and the carvery was enjoyed by all 8 people in our family. The waiter was very attentive and friendly.

Overall outstanding meal and excellent service in a beautiful, modern and tastefully decorated pub. Visited on May 30th while on holiday in neighbouring Exhall. Discovered it was steak night and had 2 fillet steaks with a house red thrown in for just under £40 (sauces/toppers extra). The steaks were perfectly cooked to our liking and the accompanying mushroom sauce (my choice) and black and blue topper (melted blue cheese and mushroom; my partner's choice) were delicious. We had starters, whitebait with homemade tartar sauce, and creamy garlic mushrooms with garlic bread. Both were beautifully presented and very tasty. After those and the steak mains we didn't have room for pudding. Our waitress and the duty manager were very welcoming and helpful. One of the best meals out I've had in a while. Two of our party however had issues. One had the lamb shank (or sparrow shank as he described it) . One had the sausages which unfortunately did not taste right being over full of herbs.

Classic pub grub with an excellent carvery. I have now been 3 times and I have gone for the carvery each time and have never been disappointed. I have tried all the meats and can honestly say I can't pick a favourite. All the classic vegetables are there. The Yorkshire puddings are a must. Service is good. Never had room for a desert though!
