Stopped by The Picnick Basket twice this trip. The first time was for a late lunch and the second was grabbing a breakfast sandwich on the way to the airport. For lunch, the hot pressed turkey sandwich was good. There was something missing that I couldn't put my finger on... Maybe a little extra pesto would have done the trick.For breakfast, graced the egg on brioche with cheese and ham. This was a delicious breakfast sandwich. Definitely opt for the cheese and ham. Prices were reasonable. Service was great. Crowds can fluctuate it seems (late lunch was super busy, breakfast was dead). Overall, great restaurant & will be coming back during future trips. Great, fresh, healthy, consistent REAL food. Service can be a little slow, but that's because they are actually cooking up your sunny-side-up egg, or slicing your avocado after you order. So, worth a little extra wait!

I was referred here by a co-worker and ordered the Chimi chicken sandwich and it's delicious! The online order experience was simple and quick! We were looking for a sandwich place in midtown and the 5-star Yelp reviews for The Picnic Basket were spot on. It is small but neatly organized and there are a few tables though it is clear that take-out is their main business. They have a wide range of sandwiches and paninis. I found PB on whim when i wanted something other than salad for lunch. Let me tell you, PB was amazing in both service and food quality. The girls on the phone and front register are always very friendly and helpful when asking for recommendations. I was advised my the girl who answered the call for me that I MUST try their sweet potatoes and to make sure when I do want to order to call in early because they do sell out rather quickly. Let's just put it this way, any time I get lunch from here I ALWAYS get the sweet potatoes now. I think it's their house mayo/chipotle sauce soooooo good and just the right amount of kick to it. I came by for lunch on a Friday around 11am. I've passed by this place countless times but never had the opportunity to give it a try. Until today.I got the pastrami sandwich and asked for mustard instead of mayo (just because I don't like mayo). It was nicely toasted on ciabatta and the cheese was melty and gooey. I also appreciated that the ingredients were evenly distributed throughout the sandwich so each bite was proportionally complete.  Not sure if the gnawing hunger played a part, but this sandwich hit the spot for me. Simple with just lean pastrami (that's how I like it.. too fatty grossed me out), pickled red onion, pickled jalapeño, cheese, dipped in mustard. Great little lunch.I must also add: great service. There were two girls manning the counter and both greeted me cheerily. When I stood there staring at the menu trying to decide what I wanted, they didn't stare at me or make me feel awkward and rushed, as often happens in nyc when you don't know what you want. Lucky for me it wasn't busy, but still, I appreciated it. Also, they greeted every single person that walked through the door with a bright and friendly greeting. The best place to have a good lunch when you're in the area! Everything is so delicious and fresh! I ordered a mozzarella panini and it was so delicious with red peppers and pesto flavor! The hummus bowl was also amazing with chicken and the pita bread was so fluffy that I couldn't stop eating! Absolutely amazing!
