The Peace of Food

What an honour it was to be treated to a soul-enriching breakaway in a magical place in one of South Africa’s most gorgeous regions, the Garden Route. This hidden gem, Peace of Eden, is exactly as the name says, Peace of Eden! Hidden away along the windy road that leads to Rheenendal you are greeted with greenery, peace and tranquility. ||||From the moment we arrived we were greeted with big warm smiles welcoming us to a piece of heaven. Jim helped us carry our bags to our forest tent, our home for the next 3 days, tucked away in the dense forest along a meandering path. ||What a space to unwind! Surrounded by forest and birdsong. Life was great and could not be better!||||But boy were we surprised when we arrived for our gourmet secret vegan 4-course dinner. ||We were treated to the most colourful and tasty vegan dishes which encouraged me to step up my game. We are a pescatarian family but Jenny’s cooking really inspired me to readjust my attitude and adopt a cleaner diet. ||The days that followed were filled with beautiful nature drives, soulful forest walks, meditation by the stream, moonlight walks and restful sleep. Our little family is happy when we are together in nature and we got exactly this.||||My absolute favourite was the eco forest toilet with it’s beautiful view of the forest, the best place to hang out when nature calls||As a nature-loving, eco-conscious family it was wonderful to be in such a magical space with awesome people that truly live by example. ||||Our visit to Peace-of-Eden ignited a desire to up my game and be more committed to my responsibility to protect this beautiful country and planet.||There is no excuse to not play our part.||||If your soul is craving tranquility, connection and restoration, Peace of Eden will give you that and so much more.||||Thank you Howard, Jenny and Jess and the rest of the team. I loved the semi-rustic accommodation was perfect for us and it was a very peaceful & beautiful environment. If you just want to relax then this is the spot for you. The forest walks are lovely. The property is well kept with buddha's & rose quarts every where. The bed was good and the bedding of good quality. Not sure wether it was the incredibly warm and friendly staff, the lush forest and babbling creek or the monkeys that visited my deck nearly everyday. ||||And that's not even mentioning the food. OMG. This is literally heaven on Earth for any vegan in South Africa and an ABSOLUTE MUST for anyone travelling along the garden route.||||Breakfasts are incredible!! You haven't lived until you've had a vegan omlette or a vegan nutella pancake! and the fine dining menu is seasonal, organic and looks and tastes amazing. ||||They also run a market on a Saturday at nearby Sedgefield- Peace of Food. the food there is out of this world!! Super tasty, great portion sizes and looks amazing- it's more like a hip Cape Town kinda vibe and really stands out from the other stalls there. Definately well worth a visit if you live nearby or are staying in the area over a weekend.||||I can not rate this place enough! I attended a wedding at Peace of Eden during March of this year. When there, we sampled their delicious olive spread/ tapenade which was served with the veggies table after the ceremony. I know this sounds ridiculous, but ever since the wedding I have been making batches and batches of different olive spreads in the hopes of putting the carvings to rest. I was also blown away by their vegan menu and only noticed it halfway through the evening, which says a lot seeing as we eat meat as well as other animal products.I highly recommend visiting them just so one can experience the versatility and ease of their vegetarian lifestyle and see just how awesome one can party without impacting the environment severely . We had a wonderful stay. Jeni gave a lot of her time chatting with us and giving good tips. Location was incredibly Peaceful, tent was perfect with a comfy bed, table and chairs to relax on our deck. We got married at Peace Of Eden and it was beyond magical! Really and truly! Jess and Jen did the most phenomenal job in creating our fairytale forest wedding. They were always super helpful with suggestions, which we so appreciated and the food!!! Oh my goodness, our guests are still raving about it :) Everything from the flowers to the decor and the dance floor was thought through to the last detail. The pop-up home dining experience is the most charming thing I've ever encountered. I never knew vegan food could be this extravagant! If you want to feel part of the ebb and flow of life, and nature - this is where one can do it. You can even bring your own tent and camp there now, they have gorgeous wooden eco loos and showers. If you are interested in a generic hotel greeting where everything is super efficient and no item is out of place, then this is not for you.
