We ( as in Gleadless Valley Tenants & Residents Association ) contacted Neil to provide buffet sandwiches in party boxes for the 65 children attending our children’s Christmas party. Nothing was too much trouble from our very first contact. We ordered extra sandwiches for those that organised the party. All the food was delivered prior to the start of the party, and it was delicious. The sandwiches were divine! Neil catered for my daughter's wedding reception on Friday night. The food was exceptional! I had so many compliments on the amazing spread. Everything was extremely generous. The little touches like salad on the sandwiches gave it a very homemade feel, obviously in a good way! The customer service and little chats I had with Neil were so friendly too. What’s your signature dish?
Whatever it is, whatever the occasion, we like no-nonsense food. It has to be good quality and delicious to eat. We tend to stick with classics that will appeal to all your guests. We get great compliments about our cold finger buffets, but then our carvery sandwiches, served hot with all the trimmings are really popular too.
How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?
We take time to understand the event and what you want. Who will the guests be? Where in the day is the catering, how formal or informal the service, and what are the practicalities of feeding a large number of people in your venue, whether it's a church hall in a city or a marquee in the middle of a field!
Most guests just want a nice plate of things that are good to eat. They don't want fussy, they don't want to experiment with amazing new tastes, and they don't want to wait. Most clients know pretty much what they want, and just need a bit of guidance here and there. We've been doing this for quite a while now and will bring that experience to make your event a success.
What do you love most about your job?
There is a tremendous satisfaction in preparing food for large groups, seeing people leave the buffet with full plates and finishing with empty ones. It's always a challenge to get everything right, but that's the fun!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I came to a food business quite late in my career. I've experienced a lot of catering in my business career and personal life. A lot of it was really disappointing. Beige buffets, poor choice, not enough food, new taste experiences that I wished I hadn't experienced, we've all seen it. I just thought, 'Why is it so difficult to get this right..? What is wrong with just serving nicely made, fresh foods that most people can enjoy?'.
Well, its not always easy, but with care and hard work we deliver great food every time.
