What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
A connection with your subject. Understanding the relationship between foreground and background... often the background is more important. Lighting is a little understood craft that separates an average picture from a great picture, especially for commercial photography.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
So... what would you like to achieve with your pictures or footage... what are we shooting, what kind of style, what are you trying to sell or convey...?
What do you love most about your job?
I love lighting and creating images... whether still images or moving images... I never get tired of the creative process, bringing a lot of elements together at one time to create that moment that you then capture.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have previously worked in the theatre as a lighting designer and then at the BBC as a vision engineer learning about the technical aspect of cameras and pictures and as a lighting designer, painting with light... I have worked on some fabulous projects over the years... but eventually my passion and my drive to have my own company and go out there and meet some new challenges was too great to resist..!
