The Larder on Goosegate

The Larder on Goosegate locationNottinghamshire, Notts

Since opening in 2006, The Larder has earned a reputation as one of Nottingham's best independent restaurants. Our cooking style is best described as British and European, with a daily changing menu based around the best seasonal produce. We are housed in the beautiful Grade 2 listed building that once was home to Jesse Boot's first apothecary and many original architectural features remain. We are located in Hockley, just a few minutes from Market Square, the centre of the city.

Very nice Restaurant!! A fusion between the classic English cuisine and a more modern approach to it. I of course enjoyed the food, but I have a couple of criticisms related the main courses: they should be simpler and less complicated to taste... Too many flavours and ingredients for a classic of the UK cuisine. Anyway, nice atmosphere and lovely environment.

I really loved this place. It exists in the building where the first boots (the pharmacist) was opened which I really liked. The food was also amazing. I had the beetroot cheesecake as a starter, the gnocchi as a main and the chocolate mousse for dessert. I especially liked the gnocchi, I thought they were incredible, very fluffy and tasty.

I will start off by complimenting the delightful waitress we had, who was really the only good thing about our evening there.

The food was disappointing. I had eaten at The Larder several times a few years ago, and had enjoyed the selections, but the food yesterday was a bit of a joke. A main meal consisting of the smallest portion of mussels with “chips” which resembled shards of over-fried potato. The chutney for the cheese was a liquid disaster, and trickled off the shop-bought oatcakes.

Lovely seasonal menu that isn't overbearing with too much choice. Food is delicious and well presented. Its a bit of a hidden gem, tasteful decor in a wonderful historic building. Good value for money for a meal of that quality, one of my favourite restaurants in Nottingham.

An excellent evening for a rather decadent dinner! Lots of delicious food in fairly generous portions, and some good vegetarian options if you're that way inclined. 9/10 would recommend, great for the price if you're willing to part with the cash.

Very disappointing. With only 6 people in the whole restaurant the chef couldn't send out 4 meals together. Very poor veggie options. The only bright spot was the delightful waitress. I won't be going back ever again

Went on a Friday evening without booking but luckily got a table! Food was really good although a little pricy but it did worth the price! Can also go with the fixed price menu which is really good value! Passion fruit cheese cake was so delicious! Definitely recommend!

What a complete nightmare of a night
We booked for our party of 12 Christmas party everything was going brilliantly until a party of at least 30 came in and ruined a great night for us
We couldn’t hear our selfs talking or enjoy our food as all we could hear was the other party playing pass the parcel, putting lipstick on each other, shouting and embarrassing others and talk about Whistling wow

I don’t blame the party of 30 but who I do blame is the restaurant for allowing this to happen I felt like we was having to hear a celebration in some back seat pub!!!

We wasn’t the only people who thought that this was not acceptable as the other party’s that was sat next to us said the same
If they wanted to carry on like this they should of gone and had their Christmas party in pub function room
We’ve only heard good reviews about this place and couldn’t wait to come and enjoy our Christmas dinner but instead
You absolutely ruinined ours.
Thanks for ruining our Christmas party

Delightful little gem hidden away in Nottingham's trendy Hockley area. Independent and classy, with a large airy room that is full of light and gentle back round music. Great tea and a fantastic sandwich selection. Great for families and events. No disabled access unfortunately.

We had a family meal for my husband's 70th. We were a party of 11, 5 of which were children. They did not have a children's menu but were happy to cater fir what they liked. The service was very good and we will diffinately think about using them again.

Food was ok, not great but not bad. Service was a little slow as there was only one server. We had to clear our own table to make room for the main courses which was a bit poor. There is certainly better value for money in Nottingham than here.

This a great restaurant for many reasons; British contemporary food that attempts to make things new but also not over developed. a great space in a historic part of town and friendly staff. If there's anything wrong I would say it is some of the chairs/tables. You simply cannot eat comfortably when the table is so high your chin is 20 cm from it. This isn't a problem that all tables have as it a mixed set of different styles, great fro quirkiness, terrible for practicality.

Fantastic food and service, even though it was a big girlie christmas meal last year and the restaurant was packed. The food quality was amazing and the service was out of this world!
Nice little secret restaurant in Hockley that deserves more recognition!

If you want top quality food in a relaxed environment, without paying the eye watering bills of some of Nottingham's top billed restaurants, Larder is where it's at. My new favourite place to eat in town.
