Leanne at the Kick Ass Donkey Group certainly knows her stuff when it comes to building websites and graphic design. She has educated me that it’s not just about the aesthetics of a website but functionality and performance is equally important. She hand codes her websites which allows her to be in control of the final product. She has thoroughly tested my websites using third party sites to ensure that it is performing as well as it can.Her attention to detail is something else that impresses me. Most people won’t even notice but little things like the spinning logo, the automated way the website greets you dependant on the time of day and that it is accessible to the visually impaired via a screen reader are really nice touches. What makes a great website?
A good website is w3c compliant, accessible, responsive to mobile devices, well researched and appropriately error checked. A great site is all of these things but fast, with a clear call to action and is regularly updated and maintained.

What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
We require our clients to fill in the 'design brief' form and pay their first instalment in advance. We try to make the process as simple as possible to save valuable time on both parts but welcome a chat and a virtual or physical coffee for us to both ask and answer questions as they feel appropriate.

What inspired you to start your own business?
At the time I became self-employed six years ago and fresh out of university I was inexperienced and very much learning my craft. Nobody would hire me because agencies required staff with experience and not somebody that still needed training. As I couldn't get hired, I picked up a few freelance projects and continued private study and building my portfolio. I achieved enough success that I could continue self-employed and I enjoy having the freedom and flexibility to work on the projects that I enjoy. I turned this independent work into an agency almost two years ago, and I have never looked back.
