With Nate we are helping our former shelter dog be the best dog he can be.
After interviewing several different trainers, I'm still glad we picked the K9 Institute.

Nate is one of the best dog trainers and breeders we know. Our 8-month old German Shepherd Ozzy is a loving, smart and obedient dog.

Nate's the BOMB! We have a super sweet, super crazy puppy and the very first day Nate came to see us, he started working magic. He is very professional, very very knowledgeable and commands attention and "alpha dog" status in a loving and nurturing way. Such a super guy and definitely knows his stuff. I wish we'd found him long before now! More...

Nate is excellent at what he does! Our almost 90 lb puppy was completely out of control before we found him, and now she is much more well behaved and actually listening! I am able to finally start walking her again! (My husband was doing all of the walking before.) I highly recommend K9 Institute to anyone looking for a trainer who doesn't go straight for the shock collar! More...

We are very pleased with the transformation in Rocky in just a few weeks. He is a much calmer and more focused dog. Nate did a great job building his confidence and curbing his fear. Rocky had so much nervous energy and attention deficit disorder on steroids he could not sit still. Rocky's parents needed a lot of training too, which Nate has been happy to provided. Look forward to keep up the training daily at home and have a happy, less fearful pup! Well done Nate! More...

Nate is the real deal! We adopted a 10 week old puppy and when she turned 18 months she developed aggressive tendencies towards our 8 year old Boston Terrier. I was at my wits end. Nate trained her and helped us learn how to be better dog parents. She is almost 3 now and is the sweetest, most gentle girl. she listens so well and loves to please us. Thank you Nate.... More...

I love Nate and the K9 Institute. We moved to NC January 2014 and I was unable to find a dog-sitter because of my rescue, Luke's fear aggressive. . I was referred to Nate because of his local reputation and the amazing results he gets from his training techniques. After an evaluation he determined that Luke was a not a lost cause and after the first week there was a marked improvement. Today, Luke is a true gentleman and I feel comfortable taking him anywhere. Recently I 'rescued' a rescue. A sweet, sad Labradoodle named Cassie. She spent the first year in a cage at a puppy mill, was rescued by a local rescue organization, fostered, then adopted, returned because of separation anxiety, fostered again, adopted again and then almost sent back to the original Rescue, again due to separation anxiety. I drove to Jacksonville from Charlotte to pick her up and took her to Nate for an initial evaluation. She is currently in training and doing so well, Nate may get her certified as a service dog. What can I say, Nate and the K9 get results with a personal touch and serious expertise. I highly recommend him for canine issues from puppy obedience to K9 training. He does it all. More...

Nate is awesome! He took in our GSD puppy, Kemba, for 2 weeks and Kemba is definitely a different dog because of it! Kemba was a 5 month old puppy at the time and Nate used him as a demo dog at a K9 officers event in Mint Hill. Kemba performed flawlessly during his routine and that was after the first week of training. Nate was able to teach Kemba proper commands and perform an entire routine in front of a couple thousand people with Kemba in just a weeks time. He used the 2nd week with Kemba to sharpen his skills on the leash. We were very happy with Kemba when he was done with training and we highly recommend Nate to anyone that is looking to put their dog through training. Nate is very knowledgeable and skilled at what he does! We will be using him again in the future! More...

I couldn't recommend working with Nate enough. Piper came to the K9 Institute anxious and aggressive. She came home from a train and board session an entirely different dog. For the first time since we got Piper, she listens to our commands and is a happier, calmer, and a much less anxious dog because of it. Nate took the time to come out to our house to assess Piper's needs before creating and action plan. I only wish we would have started working with Nate sooner. He is passionate & excellent at what he does! We are so thankful for all of his hard work.

Seriously, if you're thinking of finding a trainer for your pup (from simple puppy training to adult training or behavior correction) I highly recommend The K9 Institute. Nate has done what I thought was the impossible.

When we reached out to Nate we were overwhelmed with a puppy that was fearful, aggressive, and unpredictable. After spending time at the K-9 Institute, our puppy was transformed into a confident and obedient dog. His positive reinforcement training brought out the absolute BEST in our dog. Nate also spent a lot of time following up with us to help us with any additional training questions we had. We're so glad we made the decision to work with Nate!!! More...

Our puppies are so much happier after just a few lessons. We have continued past the standard training and into the fun training that has given the pups fun mental outlets as well as good behavior. :) Thank You Guys So Much!!!

Aspen just finished a 4 week puppy class, and I couldn’t be more pleased with these guys.
They’re pros at what they do.
Aspen loves it there, and learned a lot.
We’ll continue with what they taught ‘us’, and will, surely, be back if we need any more help!

RESULTS!!!! I highly recommend the K9 Institute. We did a 4 week board and train with our 13 month old Doberman Leia and have been blown away by the dog we got back. Leia is a smart dog and was a good girl before training, but she is also a big, strong dog that would only listen when she felt like it. For instance, human mealtime was impossible when the dog was out of the crate. Having people over could also be a nightmare since Leia would either be up in their grill the entire time or bark if we stuck her in her crate or outside. Fast forward 4 weeks and we have a complete joy of a dog who only goes in her crate at night. She goes to and stays on her “place” until we release her.

We came into the training facility for a visit at the end of week 2. My wife’s jaw hits the floor. Our beast of a dog is SITTING on a mat 50 yards away staring intently at us, not barreling across the carpet to say hi. Neither of us thought this would be possible in only 2 weeks. Over the next 2 weeks her behavior was refined even more and by the end we had a dog that we could essentially control off leash (a little too early for complete off leash, but we are getting there).

The K9 Instutide operates more like an all-you-can-eat buffet instead of an a la carte restaurant. They don’t have preset basic/ advanced/super advanced training packages. They simply teach your dog as much as he/she can absorb during the time there. At a MINIMUM they will have the basic commands down pat. Leia is at the point where we can get her to heel on and off leash. They taught her to speak, touch objects, and started some scent work. They will work with your dog to see what it enjoys and what it is capable of. Finally, they told us how strong Leia’s food drive was and taught us how to use it at home. Great experience, great results.
