Stayed here on a one night deal with National Trust. We had a very relaxing and comfortable stay.||||The room we had, Kitty's, was very spacious and beautifully furnished, with a fabulous view from the window. The bathroom was bigger than some hotel rooms I've stayed in.||||Food was excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful.||||Had a nice long swim in the large and very warm swimming pool. More...

I stayed at your hotel on the 6th November and I have to write after sending a personal email to the manager.||The welcome we received from the receptionist Chloe, was very warm and welcoming, she was very informative and extremely helpful about the hotel and the facilities. She is a real credit to the establishment, she made us feel very welcome and comfortable, ||It just got better, the room was great, so quaint, the attention to detail in the room, the robes, the luxury toiletries etc, just made it so special.||The food was exceptional too, we ate in both restaurants . The steak was especially delicious.||We had a wonderful stay at your hotel, I would thoroughly recommend it.||||Thank you More...

We have been regular visitors to this historic NT property and its estate for many years and had always wanted to stay in the "residential" wing. A "special offer" became available and we booked.||The first and main problem we encountered was on arrival - guest parking is signposted to the far back of the property which was full of workmen's vans and staff? vehicles. No places. Nevertheless with our insider knowledge we secured a parking place close to the main entrance. For those who have mobility issues like us it would probably be worth informing the hotel in advance for instructions.||Check-in was great. The reception person was dealing with simultaneous issues from guests coming, going, screaming children & other stuff, but was so calm, so collected. What a woman. Sincere respect.||Wonderwoman checked us in, gave instructions for meals and the hotel facilities.||Our room was large, overlooking the Italiante gardens, with photos on the wall of its previous existence in an aristocratic family home. The ensuite bathroom, though modern, was luxurious with Jack&Jill basins, a shower and bath. Toiletries were Elemis - apparently that is good?. Towels were fluffy and warm on the towel rail.||There were numerous cushions in the window seats, and lovely vintage furniture in the room (but so uncomfortable!). In-room TV/kettle/other facilities were all there.||Beds were comfortable and the night's sleep was fine.||Our evening meal in the "adult" restaurant was fine. Food was good. Service was excellent. Wine was pricey (not unexpected!).||An otherwise agreeable breakfast had to be shared with the family groups. Oh dear. While some parents had children with table manners, it appears most did not (on this weekend). Tantrums, screaming, unrestrained running around were normal while I attempted to eat my toast and marmalade. Why does this not happen in Italian, Spanish or French family hotels among others? We found this most disagreeable.||Verdict: Overall, a stay here is in so many ways a unique experience, but make sure you steer well clear of school holidays! More...

Myself, my dearly beloved and our cocker spaniel visited The Ickworth for two nights again, following our first stay last year. The room was excellent again as was the food and drink although the price of a single glass of wine doesn't appear to have changed for the better following my only negative observation from our previous stay. Maybe its me at fault because whilst I am not in the hospitality industry I just don't understand why wine prices are so inflated in a restaurant. That said it was a great stay again although, and its nothing more than a passing comment, the staff probably didn't quite have the sparkly edge they had during our stay last year. But to finish on a positive note whilst there we treated ourselves to a massage and facials each and they were one of the best - full marks to Magli! More...

There is something special about this place and I’ll be back to review once I’ve left as has only been a few hours. Lovely inn, courteous staff and grounds are absolutely stunning. The breakfast was good but service was slow. Dinner was not great, steak and burger were over cook. Rooms do need a little bit of TLC especially the carpet. This was my first time flying over the pond and have no regrets this was our first stop. Over all the family enjoy it because the property and the town was just beautiful. Would I stay here again and the answer is YES! More...

We celebrated my parents 50th wedding Anniversary here and a really lovely weekend. We were 8 adults and 4 children and the whole set up worked really well for us. The children loved the grounds, the pool, the downstairs play room and being able to roam around. We had a dinner together as a family one night and then had babysitters the second night for an adults only dinner in a private dining room. At peak time’s service was a bit slow and the place is a bit “tired” here and there but that didn’t detract from our overall feeling of being well looked after for a really important family occasion and we all came away thinking we’d like to go back. The hotel is located in the east wing of Ickworth House and sits within 1800 acres of beautiful National Trust parkland. As a family friendly hotel it was very busy yesterday as is half term this week with very excited families making there way to and from the swimming pool. Our bedroom overlooked the car at the front and we were both pleasantly surprised with the size of the standard room in particular the bathroom which looked as though it had been recently refurbished and included two basins, bath and shower - cracking view from the toilet of the parkland! Walking around the gardens is a great experience especially the Italianate Garden. At the moment they are repairing the roof of the Rotunda adjacent to the hotel and the scaffolding to undertake the work is absolutely amazing in terms of size and complexity. The hotel does not have a bar but during our stay the staff were very efficient and provided drinks as and when required. We both enjoyed our two course meal which was cooked to perfection although I would have liked some vegetables with the steak as standard. Breakfast in the conservatory was very hectic with so many children but the staff were great and very attentive and the standard of the food food was very good. A great experience overall and if you tire of the gardens I would strongly recommend a visit to Bury St Edmunds with the beautiful abbey gardens, Long Melford and Lavenham. More...

Excellent place for walking, cycling with lots of trails within the site. Heated swimming pool is perfect. Food was amazing and nice to have a choosen wine for each meal for taste purposes. Aa rosette restaurant. Dissapointed with chooce of beers ,nothing on draft and selection was pretty poor and overproced. Spirit measures arent a proper measure and barely a dram. I had s £10 shot of whiskey which i could hardly see. Staff reslly frienfly and attentative to your needs. Lift out of order for last 2 nights so being on the 4th floor and trying to get 3 suitcases down the stairs was an ordeal. This place is a family oreintated venue which caught me out and dodnt see that in the introduction. So if thats your thing, with kids screaming and dogs barking then youll love it. We did enjoy our stay and it is s lovely place to visit, take a 3 mile walk into bury St Edmonds which has sone lovely old history especoally the old abbey which is well worth a visit. Visited the hotel with daughter, grandson and baby. The hotel is set in a beautiful setting. The National Trust grounds made pushing the baby in the buggy to sleep a pleasure:) This hotel is set up beautifully for families. The staff were helpful and welcoming to us and our little ones. We had food faddy needs with allergies etc but the kitchen was not fazed and provided exactly what we needed with a smile from the waiting staff. The hotel is a little faded around the edges but that just made it seem more homely. Facilities were good with a pool at the right temperature for children and a great play area. Trampoline was a hit with my grandson! We stayed in the Butler's quarters away from the main hotel, so no baby listening, but hotel arranged a competent babysitter for us so we could enjoy the adult restaurant. Both the toddler and the baby were very happy in the creche and we were too with our 'free' time. All the creche staff were amazing and went the extra mile to make our children love the experience. We had booked for afternoon tea to finish off a weekend family gathering. The table was ready when we arrived and the waitress was quick to take our orders for tea/coffee and to repeat the special diet requests before serving the food. She left the food and took about five minutes to come back to us before explaining what had been served. The sandwiches were fresh but unimaginative. The scones were fresh and tasty and there was a choice of jams. We had to ask for butter as two members of the group don't like clotted cream. However, the clotted cream was excellent. We were able to have coffee and tea refreshed on request. Two of our party did not drink tea or coffee and requested water and juice instead, but they had to pay extra for this. The possett was very filling and probably thicker than I would have made it, but tasty. I thought the tiny lemon meringue tarts were a bit sloppy - but later found out these were done Italian style (not to my liking). We were seated in the conservatory, which was a bit nondescript, although the view onto the garden was good. The toilets are spotless with fresh towels. I think the tea was overprices at £23 per person, but I suppose you are paying for the place! More...

Our stay was just one night, and our small family room was comfortable, colourfully furnished with a well lit modern bathroom. Beautiful views over the grounds. All the staff were professional and unpretentious and made us feel welcome. We opted for the adult dining room so as not to be disturbed by children, with a view out over the grounds. The food, whilst interesting and carefully prepared, offered very little in the way of vegetables with the meat or fish. Or in the case of the vegetarian dish, which I chose, any protein. It was a roasted cabbage dish with a light dressing but absolutely minimal hazelnuts and a scattering of breadcrumbs, said to be sourdough. I had expected something more sustaining for the price. Breakfast the following morning was very good and varied - some tasty eggs and other cooked items - and also some fruit salad and compote. A nice healthy touch for those of us who like our fruit and veg! This is a family hotel, so be prepared for (sometimes noisy) toddlers in the breakfast conservatory area. It didn’t worry us too much. Staying here is like borrowing a stately home for the night, rather than a purpose built "off the shelf" modern hotel. This is great for obvious reasons but also brings some limitations, for example the breakfast buffet extending into the hallway as they can't fit the tables in the conservatory. I found it hard to obtain good information about the rooms, but we settled on a family room overlooking the garden. This was a HUGE double Queen size bed (which was jolly comfy) and a couple of beds for the kids. The "cinema" showed a children's film at 6PM. There is a games room with table tennis, table football and an Xbox, WII and PS4 with a crèche room on the opposite side of the corridor. Outside is a nice garden area with seating and a few garden sun loungers, a small children play area and the other side of the garden wall a tennis court and a grass area with a couple of u12 size goals plus a football. They had rackets and balls and a cricket set available for use. The swimming pool was good, 1.4 metre level depth throughout and a good temperature inside and out, plus the changing rooms were funky. What stops a five star? For the money I don't think the service levels were up with others I have experienced, plus I couldn't find the information I have listed above easily beforehand - both aspects easily fixed with minimal expenditure. We will return as the kids went from complaining about going to complaining about leaving! O, and the National Trust property and gardens next door are excellent and needless to say must be visited. I have just returned from a stay at the Ickworth Hotel and found it to be a really pleasant experience.||Your first impressions come when you drive along the enormous drive and turn the corner to see the impressive stately home with the adjacent rotunda building - it is is a stunning building. ||On entering we were greeted by the lovely friendly receptionist who instantly made us feel at home - chatting about our journey and giving us information about our room and the hotel and grounds.||all of the staff were very helpful and friendly, especially those serving at breakfast time.||Our room overlooked the grounds and the rotunda building and was really nice. It was extremely well equipped with good bed linens. Best of all was the super large bathroom which had been very tastefully decorated and even had books and an armchair in it - along with two sinks and free standing bath tub. The towels were all bright white and clean and the icing on the cake was the lovely Elemis bath products! a real bonus.||We ate in the adults only restaurant and had a very good meal there along with some excellent wine. There are several sitting rooms to sit and relax in with a good selection of newspapers and current magazines which was great. ||The grounds themselves are gorgeous, and as the weather was so good I got up really early and went for a run - there is so much space that I never had to backtrack and everywhere is very well kept. The gardens are lovely and there are lots of picnic areas and a childrens outdoor play area but these are well hidden and wouldn't deduct from the tranquillity of the place.||A really lovely relaxing interlude in a busy schedule! We booked a very last minute stay here this weekend for one night. The lovely receptionist checked us in and we stayed in the Louis Room which was great. Lovely view over the gardens. |The children, aged 9 and 15, had a super time with the freedom to explore and feel independent. |They ate in the conservatory and swam after supper and then settled to watch a film at 8pm whilst we had dinner in Fredericks. The dinner was pretty good and service was excellent. |Slept well although I don’t feel like the bedding was clean - had a slight stale smell to it. |Breakfast was the main disappointment. The buffet was cold and quality poor. We ordered waffles with maple syrup and berries. It arrived with no berries and the smallest amount of syrup. The juice was very inferior quality and the fruit salad ran out and wasn’t replaced. Despite it not being a warm morning the conservatory was hot. Would be unbearable if it was a hot day. The fans scattered near the front would be of little use to people eating at the far end. |We had another swim and then went around the NT property. |Came back for lunch at the house and ordered one of the meals for the children which was the same as what he had eaten the night before. It arrived significantly smaller despite us ordering the large portion. Got that sorted when we paid the bill. |Other little gripe is there is not enough seating in the lounge area. The way it is designed using overly large sofas means that it only really copes with 4 family groups. Given the size of the hotel it needs to accommodate significantly more people or you just have to get cosy with other people on the same sofa with you - not all that relaxing. Neither were the dogs who kept on barking. |It is a great place to stay on many levels, especially the children, but with the cost of the stay, food and drink I would like to see more attention to detail. I cannot recommend the Ickworth Hotel enough for families looking for a relaxing break. We stayed in the Lodge for three nights and it was fabulous. The staff are attentive, helpful, professional and the hotel is geared up for children. Set in stunning grounds there is a large play park, great cycle routes and a lovely warm swimming pool, a kids club and playroom. The restaurant offers a variety of different menus to suit a more relaxed dining experience in the conservatory or Fredericks Restaurant offers parents whose children have gone to the complimentary babysitting club a chance to experience Lee Coopers more fine dining experience, stunning seasonal food .With an evening cinema club for the kids too, we sat and enjoyed a bottle of wine in peace! I absolutely love this place and will definitely be back. The rooms are individual, spacious and have all the mod cons you would need, super clean too. Ickworth is not cheap; we’ve stayed a couple of times before and the price has always made me blink. And it’s not a hotel with top-end decor; in fact as some previous reviewers have noted, it’s a bit worn in places.||So why 4 stars? Because it is a great family hotel. In our experience the front of house staff are very friendly, polite, helpful and warm, and whilst some of the serving staff are slightly less attentive relative to some other hotels they still deliver. The hotel has large spaces and rooms, ideal for active young families; there is a good sized indoor swimming pool, a fleet of bikes for all ages, beautiful buildings and acres of wonderful grounds. Ickleton is alive and well used; but what it loses in high end polish it makes up for in heart and experience.||A few practical things: rooms are either in the house itself, or in the Lodge. If the latter you can still use the full range of services but the rooms are 10 mins walk away from the main hotel. Ickworth is in Horringer but very close to Bury St Edmunds, which is worth a visit. They run a baby minding service which means those in the main hotel can go for a drink or meal but will be alerted if there is movement. They also have a play group at which guests can leave children, and a reasonable spa. More...

I sort of believe you should rate a property by how you feel overall when you leave, so 5 stars as we really enjoyed our stay. However, there are a few areas where the hotel needs improvement. Firstly though the good bits, the friendly and attentive staff, the hotel itself, the grounds, the activities, the room, and the ability to have a nice dinner, go for a walk in the grounds and then come back for another drink in the lovely lounge. Together all of this made a really relaxing break. Secondly, the so so, the food at dinner was ok, but could have been better, the burrata tasted more like cheap mozzarella, no bread was offered, but the stonebass was lovely. On the second night we were told that there was no broccoli which was one of two green vegetables available and no replacement was offered. The Fredericks dining room and the staff were fantastic however. Finally the breakfast was not really very good. Both days we ordered from the menu and it took about 25 mins to come, the first day with over cooked eggs. But overall we loved it and will come back. More...

We booked a two night stay at Ickworth through Secret Escapes, which turned out to be excellent value for money. However, the stay at Ickworth started off badly with our encounter with the receptionist. We arrived and informed her who we were, we were given a key to the room, told it was on the mezzanine level which can be accessed by the "second door on the right, up the stairs and on the left". We were not asked if we needed help with our bags, or if we were okay with stairs, or informed where the lift was. She did, very abruptly, tell us where breakfast and dinner could be eaten. We were also given a card which gave us information about the room and hotel etc. and that we had a £28.00 dinner allowance, which we queried. As far as we were concerned the booking included a two course dinner and we asked about this, the response was very curt "It'll be in the terms and conditions...I'm too busy to check at the moment". There were two weddings taking place, but this is not the response we expected.||||When we found the room, it was lovely. A very large bed, tea, coffee etc and two bottles of water, all of which were replenished the following morning. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. The bathroom had Elemis toiletries which were very nice. ||||The communal rooms were very comfortable, with a good variety of newspapers and books in the library. If children are in your party, there are activities available for them, a childrens menu, toys to play with inside and outside. Bikes are also available to use, the pool was unavailable the day we could have used it due to maintenance, but it was popular the day we arrived and left.||||The evening meal... well, the food was delicious. A wide variety of meat, fish and vegetarian food which was all clearly identified as gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and if other dietary requirements were needed, the staff were very accommodating. There was a complimentary glass of prosecco or a non-alcoholic elderflower spritzer with the first evening meal. All of the staff in the evening were very helpful and Fabio the restaurant manager was very knowledgeable about the food on the menu. The breakfast on the first morning was buffet style and the following day it was to order, with the cereals etc. as help yourself. What was good was that there was a restaurant for families with children and one for adults only.||||The staff we met were all very helpful, attentive and didn't make any request too much of an issue. The hotel is very lovey and the concept is excellent. The setting is stunning. We stayed in a family group for a birthday celebration with children ages 5 to 8. We wanted relaxed setting where we could enjoy nice drinks while children played and this is exactly what we got. All rooms in main hotel were comfortable and clean, no complaints there. Staff were all friendly and helpful but service was quite slow a lot of the time. There is no actual bar, so ordering drinks in the lounge is a case of firstly waiting for a member of staff to arrive, then ordering, they then have to go off and make the drinks (the kitchen even perhaps?) and come back - this is not a quick process!! However, once we were used to it, we allowed extra time. But we did wait a good 20 + minutes at times for an order of drinks. When they came, the g&ts were very lovey and beautifully garnished. Children’s drinks and mocktails also lovely and well thought out selection. All the food we had was very nice, but as I’ve since seen from other reviews, the evening menu is the same across both restaurants - and is also limited choice and some quite unusual options (many in our group struggled to make one let alone 2 choices, and we aren’t generally fussy!). This was disappointing, and quite odd, but I gather it is set to change. Frederick’s is a little devoid of atmosphere - we were ok in a group, but as a couple it would be a bit stuffy I think. A little background music would help. Don’t let negative reviews More...

I reviewed this hotel exactly 2 years ago and suggested that we might return but would not stay in the room named ‘Molly’ as it was more than a little tired with a hard and noisy bed. ||We had a mail shot offer of two nights bed and breakfast with two evening meals included so thought we would give it another try.||Although we responded immediately to the offer, we were told that the offer was already fully subscribed but we could upgrade to a small family room - at additional cost, of course (and this was after having had the response from the booking clerk when I said I would like to take up the offer, “which hotel?”).||The ‘inclusive’ dinner turned out to be a £28 per head allowance (which was £2 less than two years ago).||We received the usual, friendly welcome e-mail a few days before our trip - swiftly followed by a separate one advising that the car park in front of the hotel was closed due to resurfacing work being carried out - none of which was mentioned on booking.||We were able to park in an alternative area within the grounds which was a decent walk with luggage (although assistance was offered) - thankfully, it wasn’t raining.||We had arrived an hour or so before the room availability time of 3 p.m. so had a quick sandwich and coffee before touring the adjoining main house owned by the National Trust. As patrons of the hotel, complimentary admission is provided.||We were allocated the ‘Mussenden’ room in the main hotel overlooking the car park (being resurfaced). This billed as a small family room but no evidence of where you would sleep ‘the family’ element as there was no additional bed or seating other than a desk chair. However, the room was clean and recently refurbished with a decent (silent) bed.||The bathroom was a decent size although there was only a hand shower facility over a high sided bath, which couldn’t be released from its wall bracket. At 6’ - 4”, standing in the bath showering, I was touching the ceiling. Anyone a little infirm would also need assistance climbing over the bath side. At least the water was piping hot on demand.||The food was as good as we remembered although the £28 allowance is seriously challenged - and drinks are as expensive as ever. Breakfast is a treat - especially when Chef provides fried bread on request.||We spent more time in the grounds on this visit and were absolutely enchanted by the tree root sculptures. These are absolutely amazing and with a backdrop of the rotunda deserves more than one visit to take in the beauty.||The young staff were as friendly and accommodating as previously and deserved the 10% service charge automatically applied, although being referred to as ‘you guys’ still doesn’t sit comfortably. We had a great stay at The Ickworth Hotel. We loved the laid back vibe and how well families are catered for. Our children (6 and 3) loved the play areas, Four Bears Den, pool and bikes. Exploring the grounds by bike was fab, with no cars around our kids had an extra sense of freedom and adventure. The service could be a little more polished, some staff were great others seemed new and maybe in need of some training. The service was quite slow but on the plus side it was nice not to be rushed. The food and wine were very good. We ate outside in the garden while the children happily played between courses, it was lovely to have so many garden games and toys dotted about. We stayed for two nights for our wedding anniversary. We were upgraded to a large double room overlooking the front of the hotel. The staff were all lovely, the room was spectacular and it was overall a great break. However, there were a couple of niggles. The breakfast juice ran out on both mornings, the front car park was being resurfaced and the signage to reception via the garden was none existent, so we struggled over the newly laid drive, treading tar onto the Ickworths lovely carpet. The pool was lovely and warm, but rather spoiled by a couple of uncontrolled kids bombing each other and us (although I really can't blame the hotel for that one). We ate at the hotel both evenings. The first meal was in splendid isolation in the conservatory, with a personal waiter and a lovely 'congratulations' petit four plate. The second night we ate in Fredericks. The menu was identical, I thought the restaurant served an a la carte menu too. This meant we ended up skipping dessert as we had already had had the only dishes that appealed to us. The food was nice, but not great. We sat in the drawing room after our meal to have a drink, but unfortunately all of the staff had melted into the ether and so we gave up and went to bed. I don't usually mention little irritations, but I feel that it did somewhat colour our experience. I'm very glad I didn't pay the full price! More...

The grounds and approach were stunning. Check in was very easy with Joan who is fantastic. Our room was lovely although smaller than we expected and if we were to stay again I would ask for another room as "Mollys" was a room with beautiful views but a constant noise of either a boiler or heating system that went on all night. This was made worse by us having the windows open due to it being a warm night. The shower took time to turn on and off, toiletries, robes, towels ect were great! ||Dinner was ok although not much choice on the menu. My plaice was far too creamy for me but that's a personal choice. We were asked if we would prefer to be in the Adults only dining room which we agreed to seeing as we didn't have our kids with us instead of being in the family dining room, this ended up being a bit of a mistake as 3x couples who shared the room with us all had baby monitors of which 2x went off with the wonderful noise of babies crying whilst eating in our adults-only restaurant. We should have eaten in the family restaurant as this was empty by the time they gave us a table (9 pm). Selfish maybe!!!||We were given some free tickets to enter the main house on Sunday but was told by the young chap that we would have to wait till 12 pm as it wasn't open to the public unless we wanted a guided tour. We didn't have time to wait that long so maybe next time I can comment on that! The grounds are beautiful and the overall stay was pleasant. We will return. More...

My husband, our 3 year old boy and I stayed at The Ickworth for 3 nights in April 2019 and had a wonderful time there. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and throughout our stay. Our 2 bedroom suite at the Lodge was enormous and I particularly liked the “old school” feel to it. There was plenty for us all to do: we hired bikes and explored the extensive grounds, we walked in the Italian Gardens, we swam in the heated pool, our son enjoyed the excellent crèche while I visited the Elemis spa for a massage, and we enjoyed relaxing with coffee in the library watching our son having fun with a train set. The relaxed atmosphere meant that we could fully “switch off”, and we even booked a babysitter to come to the Lodge so that my husband and I could enjoy a grown up meal or two in the adult only restaurant (where I particularly enjoyed the summer pea soup and crab linguine). Breakfast was generous and varied with something for everyone, and my son enjoyed sampling the kids’ dinner menu in the light and airy family dining room. All in all, a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be returning, hopefully soon! Two small suggestions for improvement I would have are: 1. the lights in our bathroom (Rowan suite) were very bright and there was no dimmer or small light over the mirror - this would have been useful in the nights when our son needed the loo!); and 2. storage in our room was a bit limited given the room’s size: there was a lovely ornate wardrobe but no chest of drawers, and there was definitely space for one! But that’s it - everything else very positive! More...

We were part of a group of 17 staying at the Ickworth Hotel to celebrate a 60th Wedding Anniversary. Our group's ages ranged from 13 to almost 90 and everyone had a fantastic time. ||The staff were all unbelievable and went out of their way to help and make our stay special. Rowena was so helpful giving directions and advice and Wendy, at breakfast, had the patience of a saint dealing with all the special requests!||All the other staff in reception and during the dinners were also fantastic and I'm sorry that I didn't get all their names.||We had 2 dinners in the Boardroom. The first night was a delicious buffet and the second night was a formal 3 course meal. Both exceeded expectations (which were high)! Breakfast was also great.||We stayed in the Butler's Quarters which was a short walk away from the main hotel and ideal for our family. The rest of the party were in the main house and all said that their rooms were superb with Elemis toiletries, thick fluffy towels and lovely bed linen.||It was a very special weekend and one that we will remember for a long time. This is our 3rd family visit to this amazing hotel. We are a family group of 17 adults and 10 children and still expanding. This hotel offers us the rooms, the swimming pool, the playgroup, the indoor and outdoor space for us all to get together and talk, laugh play and eat. The staff are lovely and helpful especially Beth, G and Carol. The food was lovely although expensive with the food on the children’s menu better than the main menu at lunchtime as we were eating from the same menu In The evening. The facility of private dining is perfect for our family group |I did bring up the lack of disable friendly rooms, my mother who is 89 was unable to use the shower as was in the bath and she felt it was too unsafe to use. Hopefully ickworth will remedy this!||The reception was bought up by another reviewer and I do agree. It is not always manned and if several people are checking in and out the wait can be long. So very impressed with our stay at this lovely hotel. It’s hard to find somewhere that really feels like a luxury hotel AND a family-friendly hotel and this one gets it just right. ||We stayed in THE LODGE and it was lovely! Really big room, very quiet, soft towels and luxury linen. It’s a short cycle (or walk or drive) away from the main house which we enjoyed, as we rented bikes with kid seats on the back. We arrived just in time for the baby lambs being born, which was so magical. The property is beautiful and meticulously kept tidy by the hard working people who work at the hotel. ||We’re stayed at the Woolley Grange (another hotel in this chain) and I much prefer the Ickworth hotel due to the fact that everyone working here was so friendly, professional and seemed to genuinely love kids. Everyone went above and beyond and nothing was too much trouble. Probably the best customer service I’ve ever had. ||Included in the room rate was 2 hours of child/care in the crèche per day, which was just brilliant for our 2 year old twins. Meeting other parents going through similar things was great. It all felt very good value for money. ||The only thing that lets the hotel down slightly is the quality of the food. It’s ok, but not amazing. However the kids didn’t agree and were super happy. I love that they do a kids buffet at 12pm and 5pm every day, so no waiting around for their food to be served (always a nightmare with toddlers!) Such a brilliant idea. Afternoon tea is great, and they catered really well for gluten free. ||The grounds are stunning- you can walk right into the National trust property next door. There’s 2 playgrounds, an indoor pool and toys all around the hotel- perfect for kids! Honestly, it’s a brilliant place to stay! || More...

And there were but all went very well and we were delighted with our stay. The room was great, the food excellent and the staff were polite, helpful and friendly. The Ickworth has an excellent spa where we treated ourselves to a lovely massage. We didn’t have time to do our favourite long walk in the grounds so just did half of it this time but spent some time in the pool which is our favourite pool in the world! Definitely still need more veggie range of food but the chef is accommodating and I had some lovely meals. If the weather had been better we would have hired bikes but we weren’t impressed that this has now become an extra rather than just able to borrow them so that is slightly off putting. Really nice to see familiar faces on the staff who greet you like old friends and make it feel so homely. We will be back. More...

The bathroom was huge, had a window and was stylish. We loved the Elemis spa toiletries, fluffy towels, slippers and dressing gowns. Only challenge was that being a family hotel all of the showers are in the bath - tricky when you have a knee replacement- to climb out of the very deep bath. ||We had a wonderful relaxing tea in the lounge next to a real fire. ||Dinner was delicious and beautifully presented and served in the elegant dining room. ||Breakfast in the conservatory was fab. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice!!||The grounds and hotel are beautiful, with plenty of activities for families of all ages and sizes. We have just returned from an overnight stay with our three year old twin boys. As parents of toddlers, it’s usually so difficult to find a place that accommodates what we are looking for, as well as the kids! This place is incredible. As soon as we arrived, we were able to relax in the beautiful lounge whilst the kids played with the lovely selection of toys in there. Then we went for a walk in the breathtaking grounds of the national trust property. The room was set up perfectly with toddler beds and even provided kiddy dressing gowns which they loved.
