It is a wonderful shelter, so many great cats and dogs waiting for their forever home. I volunteered there and loved being able to help them out with the endless chores they have.

Our neighbor found a 4 week old kitten in her garage. Not knowing what to do with it, and knowing we were cat people, she asked us to help the baby. We took the baby to the Humane society, and while they couldn't take the baby due to overcrowding, they were so helpful in helping us learn how to care for this tiny baby. We've never cared for a cat this small, and they gave us amazing advice. Thank you for helping us to save his little life. More...

I had to bring my son in for a emergent appt. he stopped walking, eating and drinking overnight. The Humane Society got us in right away. The doctor came in ASAP and began her exam. She determined right away he needed a X-ray. I received pretty bad news and unfortunately he had to be euthanized . The vet assistant and veterinarian were very kind and compassionate. We are beyond blessed to have gotten to know the wonderful staff at HSGC—especially Michelle and Christina, their dog adoption coordinators. They matched us with our sweet boy, Remy, who is the best dog we could ever have asked for. And, their amazing vet staff rescued and nursed him back to health after a bad case of parvo! I have adopted/fostered dogs from this group for several years. You can tell the ones working/volunteering genuine love these dogs and cats they care for. Staff is great and could not ask for a better place to take my pets for some of their medical care. Adopting seniors is usually my goal because they get passed over so often. Whether they are a part of my family for a short period of time or years, it is one way for me to give a loving, caring home to these precious animals. Today was incredibly hard. Letting Taquito go broke my heart. But let me tell you how GRATEFUL I am to The Humane Society of Kansas City. I went in with a broken heart and left with a piece of me missing but they were so warm l, kind, and COMPASSIONATE through the entire process. From the waiting room where patients comforted me to the exam room; I never felt alone. To top it off, when I went to pay the vet bill. Someone anonymously paid it for me, along with a clay memorial paw print of Taquito. Which lead to me ugly crying in front of twenty people. They wouldn't disclose who it was, but I will FOREVER remember that kindness and pass it on ❤ My best friend who sat with me in bed when I was bed ridden at 15, my companion when I was depressed, sick, broken, abandoned, homeless and more. The staff is very loving to pets and helpful to owners. Helped with medical costs for senior dog diagnosed with cancer. Helped with meds, respectful of my decisions regarding care, allowed to be with fur baby throughout entire euthanasia process when time came. Gave more than adequate time for final goodbyes. I have nothing but deepest respect and more thankful for assist in what was 1 of most difficult times. Because of them my baby was able to finish his life pain free and happy. They are what you would hope for and more. I worked there for a year and experienced great love and compassion from the vet staff, et al. When you have almost given up hope due to finances, the HSGKC will help you in any way they can. Financing is available! Not like most vets that need the full amount at time of service. The HSGKC has helped us through times when we were broke. I had no money, we were eating Ramen and I have two big dogs and 5 cats to feed. And they not only made sure both dogs and cats had enough food to last until I got paid, but also have us a huge box of dog treats. God bless them. We took our dog here for shots & check up. He loved them! That tells a lot about a place if your dogs likes it, especially when getting shots. They also asked how much we had to work with financially so they could get him the service he needed. I highly recommend if on a low budget. I will be going back every time my baby boy needs the vet.
