What a delightful oasis for those of us allergic to gluten. Eating out is a total minefield - constant vigilance about all the ways your food could hurt you. This is a truly gluten free place; I have never had any fear eating anything here. Having said that, the food here is REALLY good. The pastry, cakes, and other delights are not only tasty, but have beautiful texture and flavor.  (Their omelettes are wonderful)Food of all sorts is properly done here. The staff are great, the location is lovely, their coffee is excellent - top marks. More...

My first visit to The Happy Tart was Amazing! Friendly staff from the moment we walked in the door, clean tables, quick service and the food was so awesomeSpecial today was pumpkin pancakes .... soft & flavorful and everything is GLUTEN FREEThe coconut crusted French toast comes with bacon; was a generous portion , flavorful brunch item and desert all in one!My boyfriend ordered a ham & cheese crepe with side of home fries/ hash browns & small side salad. He ate every bite... great flavors and generous portion of ham included. Back room for cake decorating & a great coffee bar..... family and kid friendly . I will be back More...

Quick sweet tooth cure.Lemon sugar cookie: great sugar cookie with a good lemon tang (not sure how the store associate picked it up in one piece because it fell apart with the slightest touch, nothing wrong with that though)Raspberry cream cheese turnover: initially the cream cheese was a bit too strong, but as you keep eating, it all works out, especially with the raspberry jam kinda dealCute place

Great gluten free breakfast/brunch/lunch and then some. !My savory egg and cheese crepe with added carmelized onions was luscious and so filling. Also tried the lemon sugar crepes. Could have used a few blueberries but still yummy. Biscuits and gravy were very good and so plentiful. Could very well be shared. Bought lots of baked goodies to take home!!! Can't wait!!! More...

That fully gluten free menu was a godsend. The chicken pot pie was /perfect/; it featured a light and flakey crust with a deeply soul-fueling inside of sauce, chicken, and greens. The herbal tea selection is perfect and each serving comes out in a low-waste tea-pot. The setting is quiet and the employees were all friendly. I totally recommend this place, especially if you have food allergies or simply enjoy gluten-free food. More...

My boyfriend and I come here almost every Sunday because we crave the delicious crepes and biscuits and gravy. Their herbal teas and baked goods are also delicious and you can't even tell they are gluten free. This is the best gluten free place I have ever been to. My only negative is that the restaurant is a bit hot and seems the AC does not run.Other than that it's a great breakfast/ lunch option. More...

It's rare to find a completely gluten free bakery. I had delicious, reasonably priced crepes. There's a nice atmosphere for a lunch out, but tables were fairly crumby and the hallway had a strong "pet" smell that made me uneasy. Still, it's hard to find Gluten free food, so we took the plunge and I don't regret it. More...

So happy to find an all gluten free place! Their quiche and crepes were amazing and I liked the eclair I got even though it was unconventional. They had lots of cupcake options and were very busy and popular. Their chai lattes were also amazing. Sitting outside was way too hot though and we couldn't get a seat inside. Good thing they had cold water and our food came out fast (except they forgot one of our dishes and we had to remind them). Bit expensive I thought but pretty good for brunch. Very delicious! Omg!!!! This is my new favorite little spot for pastries and coffee! I really love that everything was gluten-free because I really felt like I could enjoy it without feeling too conscious of some ingredients. As soon as you walk in, you walk into a little oasis of sweets and very kind staff! Warm spot with cozy books to enjoy coffee, tea, and catch up with a gal pal. I loved the red decor and unique touches that make this place so one of a kind. I saw that the restrooms are not ideal and seem to be in a hall leading out of the restaurant and more of the building itself. They were clean but had a little bit of a vibe to it that I didn't really enjoy. No touches of a care. On the way to the restroom on the left there is a private little tea room I suppose for special events or families which I thought was precious! I ended up trying a little bit of everything. I was in the mood for a scone...(when am I not) but I figured I would try something brand new today. I tried their spinach Florentine quiche which was incredible!! They really focused on the spinach and not so much on the cheese, but the amount of cheese that was there was that ooey- gooey, stringy melted cheese that you crave in a warm breakfast item. It was even warmed up and served to the table on a plate so that I could enjoy it with my pot of tea. I got the lavender Black tea which I found interesting. I don't know that I will get it again, it definitely would've done better if I had put a little honey in it but regardless it seemed of high-quality. It came in its own little pot and a and a mug which was just great for pictures or for that wholesome homey feel. I also got a fresh squeeze cup of orange juice that was great!! Nice portions.I also got one of each little interesting pastry. One apricot almond petit four, one chocolate covered coconut macaroon (of which I had never tried or seen before), one cheesecake, and one red velvet gluten-free cupcake (a previous reviewer raved about in a review) I definitely spent a little more than I was expecting...around $33 but with the quality that I experienced my first bite of quiche, along with a smile that is priceless, i feel like this was not a mistake. I felt like the right amount of foodie, meets, health-but, meets adventurer. I was not thrilled with the macaroon it seemed a little dry in the middle-but I would definitely return to try anything else and look forward to eating my cupcake, cheesecake, and mini cake later this evening.Love love love the Happy Tart. Name fits perfectly! More...

The Happy Tart is our family's "go to" for awesome brunch, coffee, and special days such as Mother's Day.   The food is always fabulous and we absolutely love the pot pies, quiches, and pastries/scones.  Coffee is also excellent. The Mother's Day tea was excellent, complete with mini scones, tarts, cucumber sandwiches, etc.  Can't go wrong. The staff are friendly. There's one young man, weekdays now, who is hilarious. You always leave with a smile. You need to be patient during busy times and for brunches, do not go when you are in a hurry. The food is worth waiting for. (There always seems to be a patron who is demanding instantaneous service. We wish people would stop being so cross and irritating. Slow down!  Happy Tart does its best to please them! Go Happy Tart! )The pastries and cupcakes are amazing.   The gluten free is perfect, and your digestive system will thank you. More...

I love the treats so much, they’re just as good as the gluten counterparts! I have had cupcakes, cakes and all sorts of treats there. My sister can’t eat gluten which makes this a good option. My one problem is how early it shuts on Sundays. It’s the main time I always go and I have had multiple times where I end up not going and buying stuff at all because it closed. That’s the reason I wrote this to. I have been wanting crepes all week but because I have a schedule before three I can’t get them. Overall I love there food think they’re amazing. More...

Update: Fungi and Calvados Crepes The Fungi is so savory and delicious! Really great flavor whether you are a mushroom lover or not, you will like it! Wow! This is one of the best breakfasts in the area! We love their (Calvados) turkey apple brie crepe and their dishes are so well balanced with a side salad and roasted potatoes. A breakfast you can feel good after. Good enough to get one of their many desserts! Usually I don’t get their bacon but when I have it’s been too crispy. A very pleasant, friendly bakery/restaurant in Falls Church.  Specializing in a totally gluten free menu, they have a remarkable selection of bakery items that you would never guess were gluten free.  Lunches/brunches have a nice selection of daily soup, crepes, meat pies, etc.  But, note, everything is made fresh daily.  That is great, but it is possible that they can run out of specific items. Do drop by and give this gem a try, even if gluten is not your concern!  It is THAT good! More...

I visited twice (so far) while in town. The first visit the service was grumpy, but the baguettes, macarons, and petitfours were outstanding. The coffee was fantastic. The second visit (I received a coupon after giving feedback on square about the bad service the first visit) was even better. It was busy, so it took a while, but that gave us plenty of time to make our selections. This time we tried raspberry cream cheese pastry (amazing), banana nutella strudel (divine), more petitfours (excited to try the earl gray - the strawberry, chocolate and raspberry ones we already know are delicious), a cupcake for the road and... More baguettes. We eat at gf bakeries everywhere we travel including Atlanta, Hawaii, Seattle, Vancouver... And this is the best so far. The pastries are just as delicious a gluten-full ones. The baguette is fresh, soft and chewy straight out of the bag and delicious toasted the next day. The only downside to this bakery is that there aren't any dairy free options, which we have needed in the past. Even one df cookie would be a great addition since so many celiacs also can't tolerate dairy. We can't eat much rice, so it was also great that the baguettes are a sorghum-millet mix. We will probably stop by again on our way out of town for more bread!Eta: we dream of these petit fours. My partner detours to come by this bakery when in the area - and flies them home. More...

The only reason I did not give 5 stars was the employees attitudes. The first time we went was two days before Thanksgiving. The I believe owner was there with her daughter. They were both very kind, helpful and just a pleasure. The food was absolutely amazing along with the desserts and coffee. So good we decided to go back again a few days later. A completely different staff was there. We arrived at opening for breakfast. The staff was unpleasant and even rude upon asking questions. They made you feel "stupid" for what you didn't know. No kindness or pleastness to be found. We had come all the way from Richmond Va and waited an hour outside for them to open. So to say the least we were disappointed in the attitudes. We were exhausted since having to be up at 3 am and we're looking forward to a relaxing breakfast but felt rushed by the staff to leave as there were others waiting to be seated. I actually came back later that same day to order a to go meal for on my way home. That's how much I loved the food! If it were not for the amazing gluten free options that taste so wonderful I would not have gone back. But I will go back again when we're in the area because the food is that good! More...

This place is gluten free heaven! While in Nortern Va for a girls weekend I was researching places that my friend and I could go to Bc she is gluten free. This lovely bakery/restaurant popped up as highly recommend. We got there right at opening at about 9:30 Saturday morning and easily found street parking. We ordered up by the counter and then our food was brought to us afterwards. I ordered an omelette with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms and goat cheese it was served with home fries and a gluten free biscuit. I also got a orange cranberry scone, and raspberry turnover to go. The breakfast was fresh and declious and the biscuit tasted great and it was hard to tell it was gluten free. The to go items were amazing as well! I took my best friend to the Happy Tart, when we both had first moved to NOVA because it was one of the gluten free options we found on Yelp. My friend has had a gluten intolerance for awhile now and sometimes a good gf place is hard to find. Man is this place a gem. My friend's eyes lit up when the barista behind the counter told her "everything here is gluten free." I'm not personally gluten free, but I sometimes crave their banana nutella cupcakes. They're so good, the fact they are gf is irrelevant. To boot, their coffee and crepes are also amazing. The owner often comes out and chats with you. The business hosts local bands and has periodic tastings-one recently from Blue Bee Cider. Highly recommended-even if you're not gf! More...

I’ve been a fan for a long time, but I have to give a HUGE shout out to The Happy Tart Falls Church for going above and beyond yesterday. There was a mixup about the date we needed a cake for our daughters birthday party. We showed up to pick it up a few hours before the party and they thought it was for next weekend. Despite that, they were not only able to accommodate the original size and flavors, they did an AMAZING decoration in fondant when I had only ordered (and paid for) buttercream. This place is top notch, not just as a GF bakery, but as a straight up bakery.  It's every bit as good as Petunia's (Portland, OR) that we found last summer.  I had the raspberry cream cheese tart (4), others in the party had a salted caramel petit-four (5), carrot cake cupcake (5) and a nutella banana cupcake (4.5) I also got a carrot cake cupcake to-go.  We also got a GF baguette for later.  Each diner rated his/her item on a scale of 1-5The tart had the texture i remember from before GF life started.  Not as flaky as a wheat pastry, but the lightest flakiest GF crust I've had.  2 days later, I ate my carrot cake cupcake.  After 2 days of staling on the counter, still a 5!  The baguette is in the freezer, so I can't yet rate that.  The medium roast coffee was strong and very flavorful.  I'd buy a pound if we weren't an hour away.  Overall, we agree it deserves a 17 out of 5 stars.  PATRONIZE THIS JOINT!  If we're there again, I'd eat outside at an outside table.  I can only hope we get a place somewhere near this good in Howard County. What a pleasant surprise.  We are voracious gluten and dairy eaters.  We went because we needed some dairy-free items, and set our expectations quite low.  We were very happy with the results.  The custom made cake was gorgeous and well done.  More importantly, it tasted delicious.  The cake itself was more moist and delicious than cakes we previously ordered at the Bakeshop in Arlington as well as at Georgetown's grossly overrated Baked & Wired, which may only survive because of the Instagram-obsessed generational youth.  The frosting of course cannot exceed a dairy based-buttercream frosting, but was nonetheless just about as good, with a great balance between sweetness and fat content.  The frosting was subject to crumble a bit more when being cut than regular frosting, but that's no knock on it.The other items we have had here are pretty good as well, especially for being gluten free (chocolate volcano) or dairy free (chocolate chip cookie). Also, the staff who helped me with my custom cake order (Diane) was remarkably responsive and helpful. Lovely neighbourhood bakery and brunch spot.I've been by a couple of times to order pastries even though I don't follow a gluten-free diet. I've really enjoyed their sweet treats; the cupcakes are a tiny bit denser than typical cupcakes, but they will wow you with flavour. Today we stopped by for lunch, and unfortunately they were out of quiche, savory crepes, and pot pie, all of which I was considering ordering. Ah well. I ended up ordering a smoked salmon omelette with a biscuit ($14) and a kid's pancake/egg meal ($5) for my child. The children's plate was really large and I probably would have been full after splitting that with my toddler. Food was quite good even if the biscuit was the only place you would miss the gluten (still a very tasty effort, though!)Opéra pastry is outstanding -- you will not notice the difference. More...

I've loved this little bakery since I discovered it a couple years ago. I love it even more now since they have expanded and added more to the menu. I went there for lunch today for the first time since they reopened and it was amazing! The crepe was so good and it's pumpkin roll season so that's an added bonus! The prices may seem high to some, but that is to be expected with gluten free food; and being able to go out to eat without having to worry about cross contamination is totally worth it! More...

If you didn't tell me, I never would have known this place was gluten free. I usually hate gluten free things, but this was a crazy exception. The Coconut Crusted French Toast is amazing: light, fluffy, filling, with a lot of strawberries and a decadent coconut cream anglaise. Beautiful. The Florentine crepe is amazing as well: so flavorful, very similar to spinach artichoke dip if you were to put that in a buckwheat crepe. The servers are also quite friendly! Cute little shop :) More...

When a family member became gluten-free for health reasons, this place became a life saver! We've been coming here for every birthday party for the past few years. Popped in after driving by and thought it looked like a nice quick cafe for breakfast. Baked goods are great and food and coffee were good enough, but be aware this is more of a sit down, take your time, restaurant. I ordered a crepe to go and it took almost 20 minutes. Others were standing around a while as well. A simple heads up from the barista would've been nice. Would've gone with something from the bakery instead. More...

If you're my friend's friend, you're my friend! Actually, this place might as well be my friend's BEST friend, which brings so much joy to my life. One day we decided to double date and explore the place that has the key to her heart.~My friend loves sweets.~My friend can only have gluten-free sweets.~If you relate to 1 and/or 2, The Happy Tart is your answered prayer! ;)Upon arrival, the attendants are immediately smiling at you and waiting for you at the cash register. You could either place an order from their display or have a seat by the window or tables towards the back, though by the window is better, and a menu will be brought to you. Everything, and I mean everything, is gluten-free so you'll be surprised gluten-free pastries can actually taste that good. We've had crepes, breakfast meals, cupcakes, cookies, and most recently - a birthday cake for my friend. Not only was the cake delicious, it was so beautiful! Thank you, Happy Tart, for making my friend so happy on her day! The Happy Tart can easily make anyone's day - go ahead and try it for yourself - you'll forget you're even having a gluten-free pastry! More...

The food here is delicious and wonderful for people both on and not on a gluten free diet. The restaurant itself is also very comfortable and cute! However, several things caused me not to give the restaurant a 5 star review. First, the menu does not label whether their sausages are pork, chicken, or turkey which is not a very big deal, but I also just found out after multiple times eating the hash browns that they are fried in pork fat. This was especially frustrating because nowhere is this labeled on the menu and I choose not to eat red meat at all in my diet. It would be really helpful to disclose this somewhere on the menu for people with dietary, religious, and health reasons for avoiding pork or red meat altogether. Also, the first time I visited we had a waiter, but this time it seems that the system had changed to be ordering the food up front. We did not realize this, and the staff was just staring at us sitting at our table confused and did not say anything. The person working the cash register had a very negative attitude towards helping us and answering our questions. These things aside, I will continue to return because the food truly is excellent, and it is so great to have a restaurant where I do not need to worry about gluten or gluten cross contamination. I heard about this gluten free bake shop near-ish to me and knew it needed to be checked out (Girlfriend has gluten allergy). The first visit we got a few random pastries (Cookies, macaroons, etc.) and they were all great. Building on this, at Thanksgiving we got one of their apple pies with the sour cream baked crust. Oh wow was it ever delicious. Since it's Mardi Gras season, I looked to see if they had king cake. They did (Photo provided), baby included (Luckily made of sugar)! Went and picked it up Friday as a surprise for my girlfriend who it turned out had never had a king cake! If someone didn't tell me it was gluten free, I don't think I'd have known. Granted, a king cake is 90% sugar. Still, excellent. This place never fails to deliver the goods. Some day I have to try their regular food. More...

I've mostly come here for cupcakes, tarts and other sweet goodies (and they are usually absolutely delicious), but today I came here for brunch! My friend and I cut it a little close getting here at 2:10 when brunch ends at 2:30 on Sundays (website says it ends at 3:00 on Saturday). I ordered the Californian savory crepe and she got the Nutella strawberry crepe. Overall delicious! What makes it even better for two girls with gluten allergies is that finally for brunch we can order whatever we want from the menu with no fear or hassle!! Specific Notes Below:Strawberry Crepe: perfect balance of strawberries and Nutella. Extremely satisfying! Californian Savory Crepe: I loved the balance of flavors in this crepe. I always adore smoked salmon and avocado so this hit the spot. My only complaint is that the smoked salmon was clumped in one spot making it a little too salty of a bite but using my fork I spread it out and it was much better. Latte: I won't order this again. I admit I can be a coffee snob but this latte had an overpowering amount of foam making it more like a macchiato, which I didn't order. More...

Hard to believe as it is, everything at this establishment is gluten free. And more importantly everything is delicious. My friend had gotten a birthday cake from this place a while back, and I honestly couldn't believe it was all gluten free. We decided to go in for brunch as well because gluten free french toast and crepes? Yes please?I got the french toast and my friend got the beef bourguignon crepes. I also took a couple of cupcakes to go, which were Nutella Banana and Salted Caramel. The french toast was amazing. I would not have known that the french toast was not gluten free. It was drenched in creme anglaise, and I don't think I've seen this many strawberries on any dish other than a fruit tart. It wasn't actually too sweet... I almost wished it was? Other than that it was really good. I tried my friend's beef bourguignon crepes and they were also really good. A little too salty but paired with the salad and potatoes, it worked out fine.I don't have a gluten allergy, but it's nice to know for those who do have it, there's places like this that are accepting the challenge to make the food they might miss eating a little more readily available and taste delicious and not like cardboard. I am a regular at this place for a reason!! First off, the bakery itself is adorable. The interior of it is very vibrant but a very relaxed, comfortable space. It feels like a coffee shop out of a movie. There is always music playing and a little fake fireplace to set the ambiance. Secondly, the staff is very friendly and helpful. They joke around with customers and are very patient with people who have many questions about items on the menu.It is a gluten free bakery but they also have added more of a restaurant aspect recently with salads and both savory and sweet crepes that always hit the spot. I came here with a large coffee hour meetup group. We were initially worried because it appeared that our group of 11 would be without a table. Fortunately, the guy working that day (sadly, I don't recall his name) noted that they have a small side room that we could use. We managed to snuggly fit our entire group in the side room and it was a lovely, cozy coffee hour meeting! So, big thumbs up for having a flexible, friendly staff that was willing to work with us.  ...on to the food...I had an omelet made with salmon; it came with potatoes, fruit, and a gluten-free biscuit. The biscuit was amazing. If I went back, I'd skip everything else and just savor another biscuit with some coffee. Such a good biscuit! Haha. The omelet was very tasty too. It had plenty of large salmon pieces and I removed the feta, but added avocado which really took it up a knotch, imo. I was disappointed that there was no cream/half and half for my coffee. I'm not a fan of plain milk. All of the coffee hour attendees liked their food and beverages too. The sweet crepes looked divine, but sadly I had no stomach room after my huge omelet breakfast.I recognized the lighting fixtures as having been made by an artist from Thomas, West Virginia. When you go, make sure to check them out! They're all unique and handmade, and lovely! The only negative thing was that a lady working there came into the side room to pick up some dishes so we stacked a few more to make it easier for her. Turns out, apparently, they don't bus the tables. We know that because she gave us a tense, scathing stink-eye as she abruptly turned around to leave while saying, "Yeah. Put the rest of your dishes out there in the tubs." ...awkward. So, awkward. The whole room of us were like, "Uhhh. Did we ask her to come in here in the first place? Why is she so angry at us?" Fortunately, the nice guy came back through and said friendly, funny things and we all sort of forgot about the hyper-awkward chastising we received from her.I would definitely come back to Happy Tart in Falls Church! I found this place recently and stopped by on a Saturday morning for a breakfast pastry and coffee. All the tables were full and they looked quite busy, but our orders were taken quickly without much wait. For pastries, we shared a coffee chocolate chip scone and a chocolate crinkle cookie (that's a breakfast pastry, right?). Both were perfect when paired with coffee! For drinks, my boyfriend got a large latte and I got a medium latte with almond milk. They ended up messing this up and making a large almond milk latte and a medium regular latte... but in the end, I'm not going to complain because I just got more of my delicious drink ;). I feel like almond milk lattes are pretty standard, but for whatever mysterious reason, the one they made was way better than any other almond milk latte I've ever had (hence why I'm not complaining that I ended up with a large). While waiting for our drinks (which btw, were made very quickly despite how busy they were), we skimmed through their full menu, which looked awesome.  We'll definitely be coming back to sit in and have breakfast! The definition of a gem is this bakery. This is by far the best and nicest bakery in the falls church area. I don't care if it is more costly than the supermarket baked goods or the other bakeries in the area it is truly worth every dang penny. As someone who suffers through a gluten intolerance this is a place you must try, or if you cut gluten out of your life, then you can still be able to enjoy the delicious baked goods here. The pastries here are truly quality. The atmosphere of the bakery is truly a cozy and warm atmosphere. I felt right at home thanks to the staff. I was greeted and all my questions were answered because well I never been to a gluten free basketry before! The staff all helped me out and even told me a little more about the bakery, my experience felt nice and personal. Seeing the effort that the owner and staff put into this bakery is quite noticeable. Honestly they really care about the small community of gluten free eaters which is important because there has never been much of a friendly bakery in Falls Church that has gluten free options. Best part was the opera cake we had. Is it cheap? Nope! But is it worth it! YES! As someone who has been a globe traveler for baked goods and has tried everything from Paris to Phoenix this is one of the BEST places for a slice of gluten free cake. The opera cake was equivalent to a slice of cake in Paris. Oh and you can't even tell it's gluten free! Did I mention their tea? Well their finger peach tea was rather tasty with the opera cake! So when you swing by order that! It has a good mix of both the peach and the ginger, most importantly the ginger aspect is not overpowering. It's a rather quiet and cozy spot, best of all their is plenty of parking on the street or inside the parking, it does get crowded so do plan ahead! Thank you Happy Tart. As someone who cares about us gluten free people you guys have an amazing establishment that has really blown me away. Don't sleep on this place because it's truly golden. My bf's mom is gluten-sensitive and asked us to find a place for breakfast in Falls Church before they left to go back to Michigan. I discovered that there are not a lot of places in our neck of the woods for breakfast on a Monday. We were about to trek to Tysons to eat at Le Pain or settle for The Silver Diner. Thank god The Happy Tart serves breakfast! We have been meaning to take her here on her last visit but we never got around to doing it. Let me tell you, her mind was blown, a la Morty's Mindblowers. Or it was like that episode of the Simpsons where Apu lost his job and they had to go to the Kwik-E-Mart HQ but he's limited to three questions:Me: This place has breakfast and it's a gluten-free bakery. The owner was in pastry school when she found out she was gluten-sensitive, so she opened this GF bakery There's one in Del Ray, too..MIL: Wow! I didn't know there was enough business to support a GF bakery! This is amazing!(We approach the counter and look at the baked goods.)MIL: Is this place really GF?Employee: Yes.MIL: Really?!Employee: Yes.MIL: No, really?Employee: Yes.MIL: Real--Employee: Thank you, come again. And that's how we wasted our three questions and our journey ends here. No, really, the employee gave us menus and after looking through the selections, we order and pay at the counter and they bring the food to our table. There's traditional breakfast, sweet and savory crepes, and a lot of other things. I ordered the quiche and a side salad, as well as a latte. The crust on the quiche is really outstanding--it's flakey and buttery. I highly recommend it. I'm not really a coffee snob but the bakery uses Swings Coffee, a local DC area roaster. My in-laws ordered crepes and my bf had a breakfast platter that included pancakes because he saw another dude eating the same dish and "it looked really good". For four people, it was a little over $42 without tip. Not cheap, but when you're GF, you are used to this type of price point. Everything is delicious. We will definitely be back for more! More...

The Happy Tart makes amazing gluten free wedding cakes which is critical when you are marrying someone who has Celiac. But beyond the fact that they bake amazing gluten free treats, they are great people. On our wedding day the delivery driver who was supposed to bring the cake to our reception was in an accident. Fortunately the driver was unhurt but the wedding cake was another story. The owner (Emma) made another cake and personally delivered it to the reception. Although the cake was delivered later than it was supposed to be delivered it still arrived in more than enough time to be served exactly when we needed it.Then Emma did something completely unnecessary, she refunded our payment. Of course there was no way that we could leave her unpaid for all of the effort required to make two cakes and suffer an accident en route to deliver the first cake. As I said the cake arrived exactly when we needed it and we are still enjoying it several days later. More...

Everything is gluten free, which makes for a special visit when you come with people with allergy constraints! The crepes are flavorful and fresh. They are generous portionwise and come with roasted potatoes and salad. I liked the macaroons with different flavors, including margarita. More...

So. Freaking. Good. This place is outstanding. They serve good, bottomless coffee. The cookies I got (chocolate chip and lemon sugar) were fantastic. And our brunches (omelette with sundried tomatoes and bacon, omelette with lox) were also super delicious. It's a small space so you might need to wait but it's a great little spot that I will certainly come back to. I want to try one of their crepes! More...

I never thought I would hear the words "Gluten-free" and patisserie in the same sentence, but Happy Tart has achieved what I once thought was impossible. The store is absolutely adorable. Its bright décor with pops of red is exciting. There are ample amount of tables and seats available, if you choose to enjoy your treat at the store. My absolute favorite treat here is the Frangipane. The sweet combination of raspberry and almond, encased in buttery crust is seriously to die for. I also really like their Apricot Almond and Raspberry Vanilla Petit Fours. I thought the sweet and tart combination of the fruit preserve and the icing/cream was quite decadent. I would strongly recommend that you consume the petit fours at room temperature because the icing they use tend to be very hard at colder temperatures. If you are a cheesecake fan, I would recommend the Turtle Cheesecake. I've tried quite a number of their cupcakes (Red Velvet, Smores, Carrot, Apple Pie, Almond Raspberry, and Salted Caramel) and I wasn't impressed. I found the cake to be really dry, and the icing is too dense and heavy. I also tried their macarons and was incredibly disappointed. I thought the appearance was colorful and nice, but the texture was really off. The cookie was hard (definitely not the egg shell) and the cream/ganache in the middle was too greasy. Since macarons are naturally gluten-free, I think I'll stick to macaron specialty stores.Among the savory selections, I've tried the Quiche Florentine, which was everything a good quiche should be: Velvety and smooth, with the perfect amount of cheese and buttery crust. I also adore their crêpes, which they make using buckwheat flours. I highly recommend Florentine and Funghi crêpes. The Rosemary Potatoes that comes with the crêpes are beyond words: Simply prepared, but bursting in flavor. The staff are always friendly and helpful in describing each item. I typically find a good parking spot available on a nearby street (typically right in front of the store). More...

Pretty big selection - walked in at 6:30pm for some birthday cupcakes. They had about 8 flavors in hand - I had the red velvet and almond raspberry. And the petit treat - a chocolate and sea salt petit four - pricey but delish. The place was clean and cutely decorated and the service was great. As an amateur but avid baker, and maybe because it was the end of the day, they were good but not the best I've ever had. But I'll be back to try more! More...

This is the cutest bakery ever! It's very clean, organized and the staff is so wonderful! For weekend brunch:--Nutella crepe (6.99) with strawberries (+.50): (5/5)I literally can't say enough wonderful things about this!! I'm not gluten free, so I've had many crepes with gluten and the one I had here is still my absolute favorite. The size was perfect, not too large to handle and not too small to the point I didn't feel satisfied. Actually, pretty much everything about it was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I'm SO glad I added the strawberries- they were very fresh. I recommend you add strawberries(+0.50¢) or bananas(+0.50¢) or both if you're going to order the Nutella crepe. --The build your own omelette: (5/5)also a very good deal and comes with the most delicious hash browns and fruit! (And a choice of toasted English muffin or biscuit)I loved brunch here much that I have a feeling I'll be back very soon to try more items on their impressive brunch menu (and pastries too)! More...

We just moved to Falls Church and were talk about this gem. It's a completely gluten-free establishment. This place has amazing GF treats, like so good that I'd put their cupcakes up to any others in the area an d think these taste just as good and you wouldn't even know they're GF, well you probably would because you wouldn't feel lethargic after eating the ones from Happy Tart, but I digress. I've had their cupcakes and macarons and were impressed by both.I think more than their sweets, I enjoy their normal food items. The GF pancakes are very tasty. Their spinach quiche is amazing. It's full of flavor and the crust is just flaky and buttery and just good. My husband and I have come there for dinner and got the chicken pot pie and salad and we both couldn't believe how good it was. The individual pies had nice flaky crusts and the filling was full of flavor. They even have GF cider, so we enjoyed a glass of that with dinner as well. This place is walking distance from our house, which is good and bad for us. We've already gone there multiple times and have loved the food each and every time. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great neighborhood place in Falls Church and we are definitely becoming regulars. More...

So happy that this little gem opened up in The Little City! The Happy Tart has a lovely space in the new-ish mixed-use development off of S. Washington St, and offers up a warm and welcoming environment as well as delicious eats.Their staff is super friendly and accommodating, and everything I've had to eat there is super tasty! Upon my last visit, Kimberly S, Mike B, and I all staked out for quite a while, so we got to taste quite a bit of their menu. I got the ham, egg, and cheese savory crepe for my lunch (which comes with roasted potatoes and a side salad included! SO much food!), and then we polished off a couple of sweet crepes (lemon sugar and caramel banana) later for dessert. The caramel banana in particular was AWESOME. They also have a great tea and coffee drink selection available as well.I also picked up a little mini lemon tart from the front while I was waiting for the dessert crepes because #pregnant. Don't judge me.I can see myself spending many more afternoons in The Happy Tart's happy space, and look forward to all future opportunities to come park it here for a few hours, taste more of the menu, and soak in the happy. Quaint and charming, staff is SUPER helpful and kind, my brunch was delicious! (quiche Lorraine, lemon tart dessert, hot chocolate - specially made: half dark & half milk chocolate) I was told they have music on weekends, jazz and others. Parking is convenient (street or underground). I will visit next time I'm in town, this would be a favorite place if I lived nearby! More...

We bought cupcakes. They are very good for gluten free cupcakes, but not for regular cupcakes. There was also something weird about the icing--it got really stiff for some reason and had a slightly strange aftertaste. It was good but not great. I'm guessing it was lactose-free icing. Anyway, 5-stars if you're gluten and lactose intolerant; 3-star if you can guzzle gluten and lactose. More...

Another great gluten free birthday cake this year for my 11-year old. Grayson looks forward to the Birthday cake from Happy Tart more than the presents I think! If you didn't know this is a gluten-free bakery, you'd still think it's great. I particularly love what I call hand pies (cream cheese and jelly filled?! nutella filled? yes, please!) and the frangipane tarts. I've also ordered an 8 or 9" round, decorated cake. It was a big hit, even with the gluten-eaters. More...
