Attended the Grange Hotel for a company Xmas event. It was fronted by a Casino room which was fun before heading in to dinner. Food was sound although desert portions seemed large to most of us. Service was good, not intrusive and they cleaned up quickly after dinner. Great DJ able to play music for a 30 - 50's droid (including some unexpected Country and Western). More drinks, mince pies and coffee rounded off a decent night out. More...

I celebrated my 50th Birthday Party at Thurston Grange recently and cannot recommend the hotel enough! The food was excellent and extremely good value for money - I couldn't actually eat all of my Chicken Ballotine! The olde-worlde ambience was warm and relaxed, providing an excellent backdrop for my celebration, and all service was friendly and too a high standard. The rooms were inviting and comfortable and throughout the organisation of the event the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I strongly recommend Thurston Grange for all event types. More...

Quiet Tudor style hidden hotel with old charm. Dated? Yes, but that's what we wanted. Gorgeous high ceilings, wood panels. The bed was comfortable, the plumbing worked and everything was clean. Staff was friendly, food excellent and even value for money. A great place to relax. Our visit was on a quiet winter Monday night. Would be great for a wedding too. Will definitely return. More...

We stayed in one of the surprisingly large garden chalet rooms with our two dogs. The room was basic, but had everything we needed. It was lovely and warm, even though it was a chilly evening. Beautiful location down a pretty lane, the dogs loved the garden. We ate in the main house and enjoyed the food. The friendly staff gave good service. This hotel offers good value for money in a quiet location near to Bury St Edmunds. More...

Booked via bookings.com and paid around over £65 per night which is very competitive. ||Wasn’t expecting luxury but didn’t enjoy first night in room 14 primarily because the water pressure was very low and the toilet wouldn’t flush probably. Shower was pokey and no hot water on basin. ||The bed was uncomfortable and one could feel the springs so a bad nights sleep resulted. ||The next morning I complained and the manageress put me in room 15 for the next night. A much more enjoyable experience with a bigger room and bathroom with properly functioning toilet and a comfy bed. ||I have to say the two evening meals were excellent (sampled steak burger and fish and chips) and the manager was friendly and attentive. ||Wi-fi in room was a little temperamental but that in bar good enough to allow me to watch football using sky go on iPad. ||Rooms 14/15 are next to each other on first floor and there at end of corridor with a small number of stairs so bear in mind this if mobility issues. ||I was working in Stanton which was about 20 minutes away. |||All in all ended a positive experience and at a very good price. Arrived to be asked if I minded being "down-graded"! I was put in a standard room, which was adequate. The building is old and everything in the room appeared suitable for such a building. There was a "vinegary" smell in the bathroom, which wasn't particularly pleasant, and guess was the cleaning liquid. The TV was somewhat temperamental.||||However, the person on duty could not have been more helpful, and the meal in the evening was excellent as were the poached eggs in the morning. More...

We stayed here whilst on our visit to Bury St Edmunds. It is a lovely old building, a bit dark and dingy, but very homely and comfortable. The staff were friendly enough, especially those in the restaurant where the food was exceptionally good for the evening meal we had on the first night. Not the cheapest evening meal but the quality was really good. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant. Extremely quiet except for one other couple so felt a bit awkward and vulnerable. The room was a bit dark and gloomy but comfortable, clean and reasonably spacious with everything you would expect to find in a hotel like this. The one downside was the WI-FI connection, or lack of it. My iPad was literally useless everywhere in the hotel. It wouldn't stay connected for more than 4 or 5 minutes at a time, 10 minutes was the longest stretch. Other than that we got a good night sleep. The buffet breakfast was a little disappointing. hat was there was luke warm the first morning, a bit of a wait the second morning and although hotter, not much variety, but OK. Would stay there again but could do with sprucing up if they're charging what they do for rooms. More...

We found the staff helpful and friendly, though not overtly chatty, which was fine with us. Our junior suite had lots of space and was very clean and well equipped, with comfortable beds. The bathroom could do with a little updating/maintenance though. Breakfast was very good (though please add museli to the cereal choice), freshly brewed coffee and good quality bacon and sausages.
