We visited the George on April 2017 as guests at a wedding. We walked over from the Church & through the George to a marquee situated in the grounds right next to the water. The setting was perfect - absolutely stunning for photos & for a background to the Reception. We thought the staff were very helpful & loved the ambience inside the hotel. More...

Lovely setting, great starter, main and service was helpful. The ham hock terrine was to die for. Thank you for helping us celebrate our special occasion in a wonderful setting.

We decided to visit the Island on the spur of the moment. The staff were amazing and our puggle, Poppy was very spoilt. Thanks to Suzanne for moving us into a bigger room at ground level (good for dogs . ..) and also Jo for leaving the foot balm by the bath after our 27 km walk!. The food was great. We will be back and thanks again! More...

Lovely table in the garden with fabulous selection on the foodmenu which was cooked and presented too perfection. fabulous selection of wine and can recommend the Italian rose two bottles went down really nicely . Sunday could not be spent any better with live music thrown in. All the staff made you feel very welcome and the sun was out for the perfect 3hrs More...

Visited Sunday 1st of January
My husband thought we could start the new year with a treat so booked a table for us on New years day.
Although we had originally booked for the Snug Sunday event , we were also offered a full a la carte menu to choose from should we wish .
We chose the Snug Sunday menu which was two courses for £18 ,
The food exceeded our expectations, the beef wellington was absolutely mouthwatering , huge complements to the chef, followed by a delicious dessert of spotted dick and custard , one of our traditional favourites.
The George hotel is a beautiful setting ,
Although the weather was awful that night it was lovely eating in the conservatory , listening to the relaxing sound of live music from Sam Sheasby, who i was already a fan. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. All in all a lovely evening , look forward to coming again x

The George Hotel was our wedding venue in July. We visited the hotel in October 16 as it was on our top ten shortlist out of over 30 ceremony venues on the island. The George won outright for location, accommodation, food and, most importantly, a personalised service. We arrived the day before and spent time with Nicole finalising the details before relaxing for the evening and looking forward to the following day. We married in the garden listening to the sea and had a wonderful lunch as a family in the sunshine. In the afternoon our family and friends joined us for a fantastic afternoon tea with plenty of sandwiches and scones catered to all their dietary needs. A third of our party were children between the ages of 1 and 12 and we are happy to say that they were all wonderfully behaved because the garden and the beach kept them all entertained. Thank you to the team at The George for giving our family a fantastic wedding and mini break that we all have great memories of xxx More...

I didn't think such wonderful little hotels still existed. As far as I'm concerned The George is pretty well my idea of a PERFECT HOTEL: Wonderful historic building carefully adapted for hotel use. Beautifully decorated and presented with flower arrangements. In a superb location in the heart of the attractive village and with wonderful views across the Solent. A charming and helpful receptionist who by the second day has memorised ones name. A charming bedroom with ensuite bathroom, where careful thought has been given to what guests need - a support for two suitcases, a wardrobe with shelves so belongings can be tidied away, shelves next to the washhand basin for two toilet bags, etc, etc.
Then there is breakfast taken in a delightful room overlooking The Solent and Henry VIII's fort. A splendid option of food, including kippers, served cheerily at ones table as opposed to being presented with a food searching initiative test ! I could go on but I hope my point has been made.

We had an overnight stay here, the room was spotless and spacious and had everything we needed.
Reception staff were very helpful with booking taxis for us and went over and above to return by post some sunglasses my husband accidentally left in the room
We shared a bottle of prosecco in the garden with lovey sea views, really nice
Breakfast next morning was delicious and plentiful, we will definitely return

Love the George hotel but the lamb shoulder I ordered was disappointing and left me hungry. Not worth the money for the food. Depending what you have but the views from the beer garden made up for it. More...

We visited for an evening meal in February and found it welcoming and quiet. We sat in the wood panelled bar by an open fire while we ordered and then progressed to the stylish dining area in the conservatory.
I'm not sure I would want to eat there in the summer when it is busy, although there is a lovely garden bordered by the castle walls.
The food was beautifully arranged but not plentiful. The art and flavour were more notable than than quantity.
The staff were very welcoming, attentive and friendly.
