We were a loose group of friends who fancied a relaxing pre-Christmas lunch. We had a great time. The Ferry is a lovely old pub with a huge open fire and long wooden tables to lean your elbows on. It has a separate dining area but we chose to sit near the open fire! Service is relaxed, friendly and helpful. The food is also great - a fantastic selection of food - again relaxed and well thought out. It’s not ‘Fine dining’ with loads of ‘jus’ but is certainly a cut above pub food! We were all very happy with our choices including the plant eaters. I know this pub from old and will continue to visit regularly - would thoroughly recommend. More...

A great meal at the Ferry last night. New chefs on the team, and food was really excellent. The Rye bay Scallops starter was exquisite, and the local lamb was historic ! In fact the 4 of us all had great dishes, with friendly and professional service. Don't hesitate... much better than the average 'gastropub' food, at sensible prices. Book now before it gets full, as it is bound to get if they keep this high standard going. More...

I love this pub. Sunsets are outstanding, beers are well kept and the food is largely local and wholly excellent. My only gripe is the lack of vegetarian choices for my wife. I've not been here half as much as I'd like since getting spliced as a result. More...

Lovely pub, where the food is so much better than you might expect. All the starters were delicious and the mains were grand. One big negative in my book was that my steak I asked for rare came out med/welldone. Always undercook a cook a steak if you can't cook it properly for your customer as you can always cook it a bit longer if needed rather than waste a good steak and start again. Proper pub atmosphere with a lovely warm local feel. Would go again and next time make it utterly clear that my steak should be cooked as I asked. More...

The location and especially the back garden is out of this world overlooking fields with sheep. Lovely beer and food, kids were able to play together whilst we relaxed eating and drinking in the sun!

The Ferry Inn is a pub as they used to be: relaxed, unpretentious, much loved by its locals and welcoming to outsiders. We did not have any alcohol so I can't rate the wine, but the food was delicious, with great attention to detail - for example, a seriously good salad dressing. I had the scallops, in a slightly sweet, fruity sauce which worked really well; and my friends seemed very happy with their linguine and mushrooms. Given the quality of the food, I was surprised by the tasteless, watery coffee. Since you can get tolerably decent coffee in any petrol station these days, the coffee machine definitely needs updating. However, it did add to the gentle, shabby, going-back-in-time quality of this pub, which I hope will never change. I shall certainly be back. More...

A cracking pub in a lovely rural environment. We are from rural Norfolk and felt very at home. Food, wine and beer first class. Our only complaint was the plethora of children making a hell of a noise which was a tad annoying . Children should be seen and not heard or not in an adults enviroment like a tavern or pub.Apart from the rug rats a superb place. More...

Hi We introduced two new customers to you who were delighted and will be coming back. Everything was fine except for the huge noise coming from two children continuously yelling causing the noise level to affect conversation. I realise that pubs are usually noisy and jovial, part of the experience but this was the only negative note. More...

Lovely pub and atmosphere had a table booked for 12.45pm but was very disappointed that the only vegetarian option wasn’t available! So I had to choose another option instead of the Sunday lunch that I wanted. Would go again but more veggie options please and make sure you’ve got enough! More...

A friend brought us here for a nice afternoon lunch while visiting. It is a great little restaurant in the english countryside. We came on a beautiful summer day and were able to sit out side in the back lawn. It is really beautiful back there surrounded by farm land. We didn't see much of the inside of the restaurant but i do remember it was a very very old building that was quaint and cozy. The staff was very helpful and like most english pubs you order you food and drink inside at the bar. There wasn't anything on the menu that didn't have meat in it so i asked the waitress and she said the chef could make me a vegetarian pasta dish. It was delightful and i was very grateful for that. All in all it was a great visit and i really enjoyed the food and service here! More...

The place is rather misleading, with its shabby decor and mismatched artworks on the wall, and walking in to an incredibly noisy atmosphere in the bar you wouldn't expect to find the high quality food that is offered here. If hubby hadn't booked a table I probably wouldn't have chosen to eat here. However, the menu was comprehensive and offered a large variety of quality options. we chose the charcuterie and a baked camembert to start, 50 day aged steak (both of us) and brownie/ice-cream for pudding. I must say that the steak was easily the best steak I've ever tasted, it was beautifully caramelised on the outside and so tender inside it was like a hot knife through butter to cut, I'll be raving about it for decades! Just goes to show you shouldn't judge a book by its cover or a pub by its decor. More...

We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals ~ scallops as starters, pork medallions, plaice and Guinea fowl.
All accompanied with perfectly cooked vegetables. The treacle tart was also amazing as was the great selection of cheeses. Excellent wine selection. We sat in the bar area with fantastic hops around the bar, windows et al. We would highly recommend the Ferry Inn.

We've been visiting the Ferry for over 20 years and it remains a warm and characterful local pub that you could easily sit in all day. Completely unpretentious - the bar is crowded with locals who have been coming here for years and know each other. Its great that there are still pubs like this where you can pop in for a drink without a jukebox or piped music and without being crowded out by people eating. We came here for lunch with friends who had heard about the pub but never been before. The menu was good - a range of prices to suit most people with straightforward pub favourites such as locally caught cod and chips and bacon steaks with thick cut chips and a brace of eggs amongst others. The Ferry always does a good range of fish and shellfish and has a variety of scallop and mussel dishes for either a starter or main. At the other end of the scale are more refined dishes and a good selection of daily specials. The food is beautifully cooked - I had pork fillet with mash and vegetables. The fillet was perfect - tender and slightly pink and very tasty, but a little on the small size. One of my companions had fillet of sea bream - again nicely cooked but not filling enough. We both scoffed the chips left by another friend to fill the hole. My partner had steak and ale pudding with chips, that was delicious and a much better sized portion.Bar staff are very friendly and helpful and didn't bat an eyelid when I asked for my cider to be replaced (perhaps the end of a barrel?) A good range of real ales and local cider makes this a really popular haunt. In the summer there are sitting out areas at the front of the pub where you get great views of the sunset. At the rear a grassed beer garden overlooks the river where swans often glide past. Certainly not the last time I'll visit and a firmly favourite local pub. More...
