Absolutely loved the Truffle BLT and tomato bisque.  Both were delicious.  It was a short walk from the Art Institute and what a gem it is!

So I tried a few different things here and even though I can appreciate the effort to put something new out there, the flavors just didn't land for me. I liked the buffalo chicken sandwich the best. The coleslaw and potato salad had very strong flavors and it was just too much. I was not feeling the aoli and the cucumbers on the turkey sandwich. The food was fresh and I get why people dig this place but it is not for me. The staff is very nice and the location is good. More...

Decadence is the primary objective of The Fat Shallot. Pretty much everything on the menu is buttery and/or rich. The Reuben and Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches are my favorites. They cure the corned beef in house and it's really, really good. For the chicken sandwich they use breaded, fried then sauced chicken tenders.I suggest washing down the cholesterol with a refreshing Vodka Ginger-Lemonade. Another housemade ingredient that's addictive. During a recent visit I also tried the Vanilla Soft Serve with Chocolate Sauce and Caramel Corn. ..not as amazing as it looks or sounds, but very solid. Didn't go for 5-stars because they tend to over sauce the sammies throwing off the balance of flavors, even the Rosemary Truffle Fries have too much aïoli. I've mentioned to the chef, but dismissed the feedback saying it's intentional :-\ Still a great option for sandwich lovers. More...

I honestly didn't know that sandwiches could be so good until I came here. I've been to the Fat Shallot at the Revival Food Hall, but this locations menu is much larger. And honestly, everything is delicious.I came here with a die hard Reuben lover who was visiting from the east coast. Trust me, this guy has had many a Reuben in his life. And his words, not mine, this place has the best Reuben BY FAR that he had ever had in his life. The truffle BLT is also fresh, light, delicious, and stacked with bacon and flavor. (See that sweet sweet cross section in the photos)The fries are also remarkable. I prefer the spicy aioli to the truffle fries, but both haunt me in my sleep. There is not a single thing about this place that I dislike. They serve alcohol plus lychee and mango flavored beverages, which they let you sample if you ask. The food and the service are both the highest quality you could possibly find in this city. Chewie (forgive me if I misspell this name) was the person at the register when I was here, and his kindness, consideration, and all-in-all incredible personality made this experience better than I could imagine. He will always stop to answer any questions you have about the food, give awesome recommendations, and any requests you have will be heard and followed.Best sandwiches in Chicago and definitely one of my favorite places to eat. Period.Don't skip out on the Fat Shallot. More...

Have y'all heard of Ravinia Food Truck Thursdays? No? Well, it's a gathering of different food trucks at Jens Jensen Park in Highland Park that runs from June 'til September. I found out that the Fat Shallot is gonna be there this year, so I did some major Insta-sleuthing, drooled from the photos, and made it a mission to pop in and see what's up. Fast-forward to the moment I finally bit into their truffle BLT. Wowza. First and foremost, they did not skimp on the bacon. I'm a bacon crusader, so there's no such thing as too much bacon. Bacon kept falling out of the sandwich every time I bit into it, and it wasn't too crispy, in fact, it's a bit chewy just how I like it. Second, the truffle flavor and distinctive aroma were there but it didn't overpower the sandwich. 'Truffle' gets thrown around so easily these days -- truffle-flavored this and that but it's rare to actually taste it. Even though it's truffle oil that they use, this is the closest thing I can get to the stuff, so it was a win for me. Went straight to umami town. More...

Only been to the Fat Shallot for breakfast, but I'm sure the lunch options are great as well. The fat shallot breakfast sandwich is tasty with avocado and a sesame aioli. But my favorite is the egg and cheese (add bacon). The truffle aioli is also a nice touch (but a bit pricey at $2). I've only ever gotten sandwiches on the challah toast, which is fluffy and delicious. Always ordered ahead on ritual, so I've never had to wait or anything. More...

I was skeptical about the Truffle BLT, but how could anyone ever go wrong with a classic BLT with the added bonus of TRUFFLE aioli?! Slices of buttered challah bread house the layers of crispy bacon, fresh avocados, peppery arugula, and tomatoes. An elevated classic I must say. Would recommend to anyone who has a truffle fetish like moi. Also, tried the Spicy fries, recommended by the guy behind the register. Good choice, I loved it. Fries were golden crisp. The sesame flavor in the sauce was delicious, but I wish there was an option to make it spicier because for someone who enjoys spice on the regular it wasn't spicy at all for me. All in all, they did not disappoint! More...

Visited this truck during the Food Truck Festival on State. There wasn't a line, no wait..however no one greeted me at all. I was standing at the truck window for about a minute before I spoke up myself for service. That's the only reason why I wouldn't give five stars. The buffalo chicken sandwich was AMAZING! I was kinda salty because it was chicken strips and not a chicken patty but it was so good! The sauce was great and the bleu cheese was a nice addition to the sandwich. Would definitely recommend to others to try. Look forward to seeing them at festivals and trying other menu selections. More...

Still my favorite  today I had the truffle fries and the turkey sandwich. Both were superb. The fries were perfectly crispy but still soft inside and cooked well. The truffle aioli was perfectly creamy and melty but a good consistency. The flavor... AH! Outstanding. The sandwich was huge and the pretzel bun complimented the flavors well. Basil pesto is now my new obsession. The turkey was moist, cucumbers crisp. It was amazing! Always ready on time when I order. Love it! More...

Fat Shallot is a terrific addition to the neighborhood - my only regret is that it's taken me so long to visit this location!I came on a Friday evening with my fiancé and there were just a handful of patrons scattered about the restaurant. We already snacked a bit before coming, so we just ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, truffle fries, and the lychee iced tea.EVerythign was amazing! The buffalo chicken sandwich had the perfect balance of sauce (with a kick of spice) and chicken. Even though the chicken was slathered in sauce, it was still crispy. The shaved celery also added a nice crunch to the whole sandwich. The fries were seasoned perfectly with salt and herbs. You could really taste the truffle in the aioli. I was a big fan of the lychee iced tea too because it wasn't too sweet. Even though we technically only ordered 1 meal to share, we were both SO FULL by the end. This will probably be a go-to for us moving forward whenever we're craving a heavier meal. I can see this being a very effective hangover cure. More...

Walked from the Lincoln Park Conservatory / Zoo. Shared the Ruben (thick sliced corned beef). They switched the Russian dressing for grain mustard for me. Awesome sandwich. The rosemary fries were super hot and fresh. Could've used more rosemary seasoning. Very subtle. What was not subtle was the ginger lemonade! Like a Punch in the face. Tart tangy and sweet. My son and I came in again today for a lunch while we waited for mommy at the dentist. I got the pulled pork this time. Awesome! Great, prompt service and delicious food. What more can you ask for? My husband and I literally just walked out of this place and I needed to write a review. I had the BLT, spicy sesame fries and the seasonal mango juice. My husband had the turkey sandwich and a beer. We were both extremely satisfied. We're from North Riverside-IL and after takin. Two huge bites my husband said "whenever you want to come, we will make the drive out here. Whenever!" It's safe to say he loved it as much as I did. My positive experience didn't end there. The employee behind the counter came to ask if we were doing ok and chatted with us a bit. He left and came back with a small ice cream treat. I was so content, not only because I love sweets but because it was a sweet gesture and thoughtful.I highly recommend this place. The portions are big enough to satisfy hungry husbands and delicious enough to keep us coming back. Great job with the clean establishment, awesome employees and beyond delicious food. More...

Welcome to the neighborhood, Fat Shallot! After hearing such fantastic things about the food truck version of this spot, I was psyched to give it a try recently on a Sunday evening... especially after learning alcohol was available inside. :)My boyfriend and I showed up around 7pm on a somewhat rainy evening and there were plenty of seats available. I perused the menu and though there weren't an overwhelming amount of sandwich options, every possible choice looked INCREDIBLE, so it was difficult to choose. After going back and forth between several options, I landed on the pulled pork sandwich, topped with slaw and jalapeño, with a can of Lil' Rascal rosè to pair with it. My boyfriend ordered the ginger salad and a bourbon iced tea. I would also love to note that there were so many creative alcohol options that I am already excited to come back, even just to grab a drink. We both really enjoyed our food. The pulled pork portion was gigantic and was served with a fork because it was literally overflowing with slaw and pork, just as it should be! The Fat Shallot is a really fabulous mix of class, uniqueness, and comfort, and I cannot wait to come back again soon. More...

Stopped in for a mild hangover cure and left satisfied.  Had the grilled cheese, which was sumptuous, filled with spinach, burnt cheese edges, and carmelized shallots.  The mustardy slaw really hit the spot - one of the best slaws I've ever had, replete with fresh dill.   The fries were just OK, and I didn't find the spicy sesame sauce to compliment them very well. I also had a lemonade with a mint leaf in lieu of soda, which is not offered. Casual, tiny space, relaxed but friendly service, interesting menu.  Will come back and try the soup. More...

In our quest for the best sandwich in Chicago, we walked into the Fat Shallot on a cold February day. The woman who worked there was awesome - down to earth, able to give good suggestions and made us feel welcome immediately. Great addition to the neighborhood. This location has turned over frequently, so I hope they make it. We ordered the Truffle BLT and Reuben. Both were very generous in size and absolutely delicious. Next time we'll order one to share. These hearty sandwiches are something I'd crave on snowy winter days. We also ordered the truffle fries which were totally scrummy as well. The Fat Shallot was a bright spot in my day! I've had lunch from their food truck, but it's been a while since my schedule has allowed me to coordinate with their curbside sightings on Clark. The brick and mortar installation in Revival Hall Food Court is a guaranteed way to get my fix whenever I'm downtown during business hours.I love a good quality, substantial sandwich, but most places leave me feeling cheated when ordering one from their menu. Therefore, I usually stick to making my own at home to satisfy my crave. Enter Fat Shallot with their winsome ways, nerdy names, and cunning combinations. They don't skimp on quality or quantity, and I love them for it!P. S. They forgot to put the bacon on my Truffle BLT this last time, and it was so good I didn't realize until a couple bites in! When I noticed the omission, I went back up to the counter to bring it to the gentleman's attention, and boy howdy did they make it right! Not only was there plenty of bacon for that sandwich, but I got another two meals out of the remaining slices. I'm on to you, Fat Shallot, but I'll be back, anyway! More...

This place does sandwiches right, from top to bottom and everything in between,  The bread, often a forgotten detail, is excellent.  Challah for the BLT is soft and buttery, the bacon is perfectly crispy, the avocado adds a nice richness, the arugula balances out the rest of the sandwich with a crispy-peppery taste, and the aioli binds all the components together perfectly.  Somehow their buffalo chicken sandwich is also better than everyone else's.  It's only fault is being a little messy to eat, but it's worth it.  We did takeout and it's a ~15 minute walk back home for us--especially on a cold day it would be better to eat it at the restaurant but still fell in love with the place regardless. I love a good sandwich(my nickname is Benwich). This place doesn't disappoint. I got the pulled pork sandwich. It looks exactly like it does in its website...but possibly bigger. First thing to know - it's meal all by itself. Many people might be content with half. Most important - it has a 5 star taste. The slow roasted pulled pork is flavorful and tender. It's topped with remoulade sauce, slaw and pickled jalapeños in a French roll. The remoulade sauce is delicious and added just the right spicy kick.I suggest using a fork to start with since the roll can't contain the meat. The one change I would make is toast the roll a bit more. I'm already looking forward to trying another sandwich. If you have the right friend- this is a good place to buy 2 sandwiches and split them in half. The staff is friendly and inside has an urban hip diner feel. This is simple a great neighborhood spot for northwest Lincoln Park/East Lakeview. More...

Stopped by here on a whim and was not disappointed! While a tiny store front and quite a small menu, this place is packed with flavor. I tried the truffle BLT and the sesame fries. The blt had huge pieces of tomato in it, a good portion of mayonnaise, a ton of very crispy bacon, and avocado- all served on quite fantastic toast. The flavor combination was big because each part of the sandwich was great on its own. The fries, omg the fries. They had sesame and spicy mayo on them. It almost tasted like poke fries, if a few more ingredients were added. They were piping hot, which was nice on such a cold day! Next time, based on these reviews, I have to try the soup! All in all, though, there's a reason this place has five stars. You won't be disappointed- all this great food for a really good price. More...

This review is not for Fat Shallot's food truck, but for their catering/vendor service. When I saw that Fat Shallot was on the menu at work today, I literally rolled up my sleeves AND loosened a belt notch. This was my first Fat Shallot experience, and I can say that it won't be my last.I ordered the Turkey Club... soft pretzel bun, mounds of salty, thin sliced turkey, pesto spread, and avocado. Headline: Pretty legit BLT. Food: I loved the bacon by itself and the truffle aioli was delicious, but I'm not sure the whole sandwich entirely worked. Which is weird because, it's a BLT. Was it trying too hard to be something it's not? Did the avocado throw off the delicate balance of BLTness? A taste that went BLAT, perhaps, in my case. Also, it was a bit of effort to get all the flavors in my mouth at the same time. Thus my taking off pieces of bacon and enjoying those separately. Which was delicious. Service: Was swift and friendly. Price: Up there, not unreasonable. In sum, worth checking out for the bacon alone. More...

Food was solid, well made and thoughtful (the addition of celery to buffalo chicken sandwich for example).  Truffle fries were exactly what you would want with likely double fry on the French fries because they had that nice balance of texture (crispy outside and fluffy inside).  It is a pricey food option, given other food trucks that come around to where I work and have similar food options, but I am less bothered by price because they deliver a good product.  If they are around again I will likely venture over and try some again. I have been a fan of the Shallot since first eating at the food truck in 2015.  I can't tell you how elated I was when finding out they are opening a restaurant.  You can imagine my double elating when hearing they are serving alcohol.I came in to the restaurant after a pretty "fun night out" the night before.  I was in desperate need of good food and some brief reminders of the bourbon I had been drinking 8 hours prior.  I ordered the Bourbon Tea which.  It's hard to put in to words the feeling I had when drinking this.  It was like having a migraine for 8 hours and someone finally rubs your shoulders to get the knot out.  I felt a weight lifted.  I then ordered the Nachos and the Truffle fries (DON'T JUDGE ME, IT'S MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT)!  The Nachos had the perfect level of distribution of "stuff", from first bite to last bite it was balanced, delicious and fun! What can I say about the truffle fries that has not already been said about Michelle Obama,  they are classy, beautiful, elegant, witty.  Just the perfect food.THANKS FOR THE AMAZING FOOD! Love love love Fat Shallot.  I've visited their food truck and the spot at Revival and everything I have eaten has been prepared well and is delicious.  It's a small menu, but it's not small on flavor.  I especially enjoy the turkey sandwich - it's huge - but I can't resist eating it all usually.  The pretzel buns are the perfect combo of crunchy, doughy and delicious.  Ingredients are fresh and they don't skimp on them.  Be prepared to not need a side if you want a sandwich (or go for it and try all of the sides also!).  Staff is super friendly and even when they get busy, there's a smile in the kitchen area.A bit pricey for a sandwich, but considering that it's possible to make this 2 meals, it's well worth it. I had my first brunch today at the Fat Shallot's news brick and mortar in Lincoln Park. 4 of us feasted on the Ruben, The BLT, the sesame fries, the wedge salad, and one of each of the drinks. Everything was amazing. The rueben was moist and deelish, The drinks original and plentiful, The wedge salad was perfect. The service is so friendly. The ambiance is great and even though the space isn't large I suspect they will have a big presence in the neighborhood. I will be back. Can't recommend highly enough. Decided to go to the food truck row (Wacker Dr) for lunch today. Before I arrived, I had already decided that I would go to whichever truck had the longest line (because that means the food is delicious, right?). Fat Shallot won by far, with the line to order wrapped around (they do move quickly though). I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and a side of house fries. The sandwich was quite tasty and had plenty of chicken! Actually, I couldn't keep all of the buffalo chicken tenders on the sandwich there were so many. The house French fries however, were not that great. They actually taste completely unseasoned to me. So I although I wouldn't return for the fries, the buffalo chicken sandwich is definitely worth having! More...

I had The Fat Shallot at Revival Food Hall before and was super excited that they opened their first brick and mortar location just down the street from me in Lincoln Park! My wife and I went for the first time last Friday night. It's a nice, clean and open space right off of Clark street with a patio out front. Staff was extremely friendly and spent time making sure guests were enjoying their food.Speaking of food, their sandwiches are SO GOOD. My wife ordered their grilled cheese while I opted to try their Reuben. Both were spot on. Their grilled cheese is one of the best in the city, while the Reuben was also excellent. The bread was fresh and the meat was really tender. We also split a truffle fry which was excellent. Don't forget about their delicious chocolate chip cookies either!I sincerely hope these guys do well in their new location. I will definitely be a repeat customer! More...

I was SO excited to see The Fat Shallot open in our neighborhood. I was looking forward to trying it and was not disappointed when my mother asked if we should stop in while visiting me this weekend. First, the service was excellent and so friendly! While we looked through the window at the menu, one of the employees kindly brought us a takeout menu so we could better see what they had to offer, and kindly answered questions from a few people passing by in the process. We ended up stepping inside and ordering the wedge salad, rosemary fries, a buffalo chicken sandwich, and the bacon potato salad--all of which were AMAZING (buffalo chicken and potato salad pictured here). This seems like a great place to stop for a weekend lunch, as they also serve various beers and cocktails. More...

I am kind of the type to be apprehensive when it comes to food trucks becoming brick and mortar...but d a m n this spot does not mess around. The pulled pork sandwich, which you can't get on the truck, is probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in a longggg time. It's a perfect  combination of fresh bread, juicy pork, tangy mustard, and spicy jalapeños...I will dream about this sandwich. Once in a great while you can stumble across a joint that has figured out exactly what you want before you know you want it.   But then that joint opens up in the storefront down the block ...the one where nothing seems to last... just when the world seems to be going mad...the week the Cubs lose and the Supreme Court hearings get nasty.  The Fat Shallot is that ray of hope...that affirmation that there are people who are cool and kind and who get you.  They were born on the street in a big orange truck and the sandwiches are meant to be eaten hot and right away. I like spinach and I like carmelized onions and the grilled cheese on sourdough is loaded. It was so good I stopped by the next day to praise them and pledge to order at least one per week.   My only concern was having to wait to order behind the crowds that will surely be flocking to this hotspot. I told them that if they see me waving from the back of the line to go ahead and start making the sandwich. When the owner asked me my name the cook who had been listening called out my name after glancing from the kitchen.  When does that ever happen? Tell them Chico sent you! More...

So I'm sitting here with this buffalo chicken sandwich, and wondering whether I like it because there are SIX FUCKING CHICKEN TENDERS on here when they easily could have gotten away with three, or if I like it because it is delicious. I think it's the latter. It's easy for the size of this thing to overshadow its taste (I can't even finish it). And yes, I think it could have benefitted from more blue cheese and less chicken. But bottom line is, you could take these tenders off the sandwich and they would be absolutely something to write home about. No question. And the sauce is absolutely marvelous as well. It's not even that hard to eat for something so huge. The service was notably great too, like people don't have to be the nice when they are piling SIX FUCKING CHICKEN TENDERS onto a delicious sandwich. More...

I'll skip the whole Revival Hall setting and get straight to what I ordered. The Fat Shrimp Sandwich: as you can see by my pictures, they load up that brioche bun with an entire sea of shrimps. Even for a guy like me, who loves shrimp, this was a lot. The brioche bun was a nice sweet touch to the sandwich, but I wasn't thrilled about the sauce. For $11 bucks, it was to bland tasting. I have been patronizing this food truck for many years--2013 or 2014? I'm honestly not sure--and when our wedding plans ended up including a food truck I knew that this was my first choice. It was also the right choice. Guests RAVED about the food, and Sarah (food truck owner) also helpfully arranged for additions to the normal menu to better accommodate both some lighter fare and an indoor/outdoor crowd which included guests both sitting and standing; in line and not in line. Appetizers were magically passed around and at one point, as though by divine intervention, a grilled cheese appeared in my hands when I had barely eaten all day, except of course it wasn't divine intervention, it was Sarah realizing that I was probably starving. A+ for everything. More...

Popped into Revival Food Hall to have a quick lunch after a meeting nearby before heading back to my office. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich - shaved smoked ham, Brie, honey dijonnaise, and shaved asparagus on a pretzel bun. $10 and the sandwich was HUGE. when I say huge, I mean the ham piled on it was at least 1.5-2 inches thick. The sandwich was delicious, however I do have one thing I wasn't fond of. They left the rind on the slices of Brie that they put on the sandwich. I know, I know, you can eat the rind, but honestly I feel like just because you CAN eat it, doesn't mean most people do. Anyways, would be nice to have that removed, but I removed it myself and ate the sandwich. The honey dijonnaise was awesome and a great addition to the sandwich. I got the "One Potato Two Potato" kettle cooked BBQ chips and they were amazing. When I ordered, I didn't read the menu correctly and actually thought I was getting a ham and cheese grilled cheese lol - nope. So next time I'm back, I got my eye on the grilled cheese. Dude next to me sitting at the little bar ordered the fat Shrimp and when he picked it up after they called his name, he had the same reaction I had to my sandwich - "oh, shit!" This is probably my favorite place to grab breakfast downtown. yes, it's right by my office so I'm not exactly scouring the Loop for the perfect bagel but why should I when the Fat Shallot is right next door? They have a very small menu which is just fine with me. I'd rather have a handful of options prepared masterfully than six pages of mediocre lukewarm egg monstrosities slopped together and thrown in a paper sack. My favorite item is the veggie bagel. It's just veggies and cream cheese on a toasted bagel but it's delicious and really picks me up in the morning. I also love their lox and bagel but those are for more indulgent mornings. I also enjoy getting a giant pickle when I stop by. maybe pickles aren't your idea of a good breakfast but it really works for me. The service is always very quick and the employees are friendly. It's nothing short of an absolute pleasure to stop by for breakfast and they are a bit cheaper than some other nearby bagel joints. As I left the office knowing I was going to blame my wife for blowing my diet because she didn't buy my salad stuff (SARCASM I break my diet like teen girls lead on nice boys) I said I will find something worthwhile. Last time I was here at revival I wrote about in another ave I was hurt and disappointed. Then I found that my favorite food truck opened a place!! As my little brother says HELL'S YEAH!! I got the Chipotle chicken sandwich!! Amazing!! Spicy but not ulcer inducing hot!! Lots of flavor. In part due to the Brussel sprouts and bacon slaw topping! Now I know hearing bacon can turn you off as hipsters have co opted all foolish bacon food creations. But since this one is actually good. Since I had already cheated on my girl named sensible age appropriate diet I got the fist sized chocolate chip cookie! Not to hard like a wafer, and not to soft like a millennial!! Rating a vendor located in the Revival Food Hall isn't as simple as it seems. So much experience has to do with the energy of the crowd and the music. So please take the rest of my review with that in mind. The Fat Shallot at Revival Food Hall had friendly and quick service. During lunch rush, which is when I came by, their main job was to get you in an out of their food and wait line. They do a great job of this, I believe I got my food in about 5 minutes. I know I only ordered a sandwich, but I was still satisfied with the short amount of time it took for me to get my food! The size of the sandwich was good for me, a perfect size for lunch and still just enough room to get dessert if you were in the mood for it. Do not expect to have leftovers. If you have a heftier appetite maybe try ordering a side of soup with a sandwich. I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint. Their menu here is sparse, a few sandwiches, drinks, and milkshakes. I ordered their version of the BLT, which really was everything I expected. Crispy bacon, creamy avocado, arugula instead of lettuce was a nice touch. Their truffle aioli was definitely a step higher than simple mayonnaise. This was the best part of the sandwich and I would say the key factor that set their sandwich apart from other BLTs I've had. The only note I have is that the particular sandwich I was served could have used a few more tomato slices. For $10, the truffle BLT is nothing mind-blowing, but I guarantee  that you'll walk away satisfied. More...

The fat shallot is located in a beautiful food hall. I went here to find out they don't have the same things as the food trucks do so I was a bit disappointed. The music is upbeat and generally the place is pretty chill. The fold hall also has many other options like antique taco and aloha poke. The service is pretty good however the prices are a bit high. The sand which I ordered was about 10 dollars alone. It was pretty good however with no fries or any sides that's not that good of a deal. It was pretty tasty though so I did not feel that bad buying it. The sauce on the sand-which was delicious so I recommend getting a little extra on side. Rule number one of Fat Shallot: always eat Fat Shallot in private. Just kidding, but seriously, their sandwiches are so messy! I don't care how good-at-eating you are, the contents will get all over you, your face, and your desk. But God damn if it isn't tasty. I eat there about two times per month and always try to find a wall-facing spot to chow down.I've had the truffle BLT 5/5, the turkey sandwich 4.5/5, and the grilled cheese + tomato soup 4/5. In the BLT and turkey, they do not skimp on the avocados - God bless them - but those mofos will pop out of your sandwich if you grip too hard. They were easy to work with, the food was amazing (I got so many compliments on the food from the staff), and they came a few hours early to set up so they were ready on time when our event started. We will definitely be using them for future events. More...

When we decided to cater our wedding with food trucks, we sampled a dozen trucks before settling on the Fat Shallot.  The Buffalo Chicken sandwich is what they're famous for, but we also served the Grilled Cheese and Turkey/Avocado/Cucumber.  The selection had something for everyone and every sandwich was delicious.  Also great: the truffle fries that you couldn't stop eating.  Whether you're asking them to catering or stopping by the truck, you'll get a great, filling meal. I got their truffle BLT from MealPal.Taste: 4/5 it was pretty tasty, only a bit greasy. It was a bit messy as well with pieces of tomato, bacon, or avocado falling out.Size: 3/5 I was still hungry after =( Overall: 4/5 I wouldn't get this sandwich again but would like to try their other options! I have seen the Fat Shallot food truck plenty of times, but I finally made a purchase the other day when it was parked on Wacker near Adams.  I have tried its "classic sandwiches" previously only as sample bites from my buds and they sure tasted good.  I ordered the roasted turkey sandwich, and the order was made for me fairly quickly.   There is a generous pile of roasted turkey within a soft chewy pretzel roll.  An all-green assemblage of toppings accompany the turkey - arugula, cucumber, aioli, and thick slices of avocado.  It's a $9 sandwich (plus tax), but it is a tasty sandwich that is hearty and sorta healthy. I always stalk this food truck. Their truffle blt is soooooo good. Consistently loaded up with bacon! I tried something different the other day and ended up loving the turkey on pretzel sandwich too! Definitely one is filling enough for the average adult. The sesame fries are pretty great too but leave you feeling quite heavy. Overall 5 for food!! Excellent! More...

The food here is delicious. I had heard good things about Fat Shallot so I took a chance and ordered the Truffle BLT and the potato salad. It was 6pm on a Wednesday night and I ordered the LAST of the potato salad. Thank goodness I got it otherwise I would have missed out on some good stuff! The truffle BLT was delicious. The portion was good and something about it, either the bread or the spread, tasted sweet and so good. The bread was perfectly grilled and crispy. I scarfed the whole thing down in one sitting. Unfortunately, the only bummer to this location (vs the food truck) is that they don't serve fries here. Overall though we enjoyed the food tremendously and enjoyed sitting at the Revival Hall which has a great ambiance and atmosphere. More...

In an upscale, local, food court, this is great for a high quality but quick lunch.DO NOT expect: a million options to choose from, a cheap meal, a charming atmosphere, or a good place to have a nice sit down with a friend you haven't seen in a while.DO expect: a quick but foodie-friendly and scrumptious meal.I had truffle BLT upon suggestion of cashier. I sometimes shy away from stuff w truffle oil because I'm of the opinion most places use too much. But this was subtle and tasty. We used Fat Shallot for a wedding I planned and we we're nothing but impressed! Guests raved about the sandwiches and they were very quick to get food out in a timely manner and not have a long line. The commutation throughout was always easy and painless. They came a lot earlier then expected, which I can't complain about, but guest were confused if they were open or not. It didn't help that the second food truck was LATE so it made it a little extra confusing. The guys running the truck were completely understanding of me wanting to wait to open them together and were beyond nice about the situation. HIGHLY recommended for your next event!!! More...

At my company, we had a party for our recent retiree and I was given the task to choose a food truck for the party.  I have had The Fat Shallot quite a few time before at various downtown truck locations and other events.  The set up was very easy to get them to cater our party.  The menu was the same as what is normally on the truck.  The service was very quick and cordial.  We only have 30 mins usually for lunch but for this party we were given an hour.  They were very able to get through roughly 50 people very fast, which allowed all the workers a good amount of time to eat and mingle. The guys on the truck were very nice and helpful giving people the right advice on what to pick.  Overall, it was a very good experience and makes catering a party very easy. I went on what was apparently their last Saturday brunch (for now), which was a super fun fair type atmosphere. I had the daily special, which was a hash with brisket from Smoque. It was delicious, but what really made this a 5-star experience was the excellent service. When I asked that the hash not come with the usual fried eggs (I don't like eggs), the guy at the counter thought for a moment and said "okay, how about we put avocado on it instead, no extra charge." He then proceeded to basically put an entire avocado on it, for free. And I see why - the avocado added a really nice creaminess and richness that I imagine the eggs would have also added. He totally didn't need to, and I still would have been a happy customer. But I will DEFINITELY be back now to try the sandwiches after this guy was so thoughtful! More...

We went to Daley Plaza for a tasting, and Jacob took care of us. He made sure we tried everything we wanted and answered our questions, even though they were very busy. Sarah took care of all the details, answered every question, always answered my emails right away. Every person at our party raved about the sandwiches, especially the truffle BLT. The best part was that the food was hot and fresh for each guest during the 2 hour service. So much better than the rubber chicken you get at a banquet hall! And certainly more original! Today I walked down Wacker toward Adams, knowing food trucks were around but not knowing what I wanted. Grilled cheese, however, always speaks to my heart. It's probably my favorite food. So when I saw The Fat Shallot had it on their menu, I made my decision and it's probably the best life decision I've made in a while. For $7, I got my grilled cheese, with munster cheese (my favorite cheese actually, and yet somehow I never considered putting it in a grilled cheese), spinach, and caramelized onions. I added on a side of fries for $3, because next to anything cheese-based, my next frequented food group is anything potato-based. I waited about 5 minutes before my epic meal was presented to me. I took it back to my office and dove in. Now, if I had eaten lunch at my regular time, I probably would have only had half and saved the rest for later, because it was a lot of food. But I was getting hangry, so I scarfed that sucker down and enjoyed every bit of the gooey cheese and buttery toasted bread. I'm not always a fan of spinach, but it was welcome between the heaping globs of cheese. The fries were some of the best I've ever had. They were thick and somehow, crispy, which I feel you don't always get with thick fries. They were salted perfectly. It's going to be hard to resist coming here all the time. By the time I was done, I felt like a fat shallot. But a happy, satisfied shallot. More...

Been meaning to write a review for far too long! Discovered this food truck last summer and have regularly hit them up ever since when they come around Wacker & Adams.Pretty sure I've tried everything on their menu, including some of their specials and I've never not liked anything. My favorites are the buffalo sandwich and truffle BLT (it's a toss-up between the 2), and their spicy sesame fries. (I can smell the spicy sesame sauce while waiting in line and it seriously makes my mouth water.) Word of the wise: portions are large! I have easily ate a sandwich and fries for lunch by myself, but if you aren't 100% starving, convince a co-worker to go with and each get a sandwich but share an order of fries. :) More...

I need to check myself before I wreck myself. Fat Shallot is a warning. A warning as to what kind of shape your body will resemble if you hit this truck every week, since they are on Clark on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays (check their schedule) and Wacker & Adams most Thursdays. They are a treat, for sure. While it will be a slightly spendy lunch option, the food is freshly made, with quality ingredients, and generous portions. My modus operandi is the grilled cheese and the spicy sesame fries. First, I will try to pawn off, I mean, share some of the fries with my co-workers because the portion is huge and realistically should be split between 3-4 people, but I have no shame and have polished off an order by myself before, because these are some damn good fries.  Next, I will happily dig into the beautifully messy, gooey composition of grilled sourdough, caramelized onions, sauteed spinach, and muenster cheese.  I am a fan of using muenster cheese in my grilled cheese sandwiches and was happy to discover these guys are too.  Usually, with the fries involved, I only manage to finish half of the sandwich.  When that happens, I save the other half for breakfast the next day (it re-heats well in the oven or toaster oven; do not microwave, DUH) and I add a fried egg. Heaven! Note, the usual preparation involved regarding popular food trucks like the Fat Shallot: get out there early or be prepared to wait. They do move pretty efficiently, though you can place your order online via their website and it should be ready for pick up, if you fear the wait.  Also, check in on Yelp and get a free beverage with your order. I liked the buffalo chicken sandwich -- the chicken was hot and crispy and HUGE, the bun was just average - I would try it with a biscuit... yum......  The fries were super crispy and covered in aioli and a real hit.  I had to split all of this with my co-worker as it was just too much food for one person.  She was appreciative, and is now a fan too.  Note -- I don't do spicy that often and the buffalo sauce was HOT for me, like I was sweating.  Maybe next time, I'll order with aioli on the chicken instead of the hot sauce. All of their sandwiches are great and from what I can tell are made to order.  The fries are great also, if you like truffles, get the aioli version.  The reason I'm giving them a 5 stars instead of 4 is people are super friendly and will gladly make changes where they can like say dropping the onions from the grill cheese.  And their brownie...the best brownie that I've ever had.  I'm hoping that they make that a regular item on their menu because it's perfect and totally worth the 3 bucks.  Big enough to share with someone else or freeze it and have it later on. This is probably my favorite food truck. However, in full disclosure, I've only ordered one thing (over and over and over and over).  They usually park outside my office on Thursdays and when I see them I always order the grilled cheese, with house fries. This is my favorite food truck in the city, hands down! Anytime it's anywhere relatively close to work I have to get it. Everything is so delicious and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I've tried their truffle BLT, turkey sandwich and their fries but the best menu item has to be their Buffalo Chicken sandwich! Oh. My. Yum!!! They ran out of egg buns so mine was on a pretzel bun. I typically don't like pretzel buns because they're too salty but this one was made perfectly! I also am not a fan of blue cheese so I got it with truffle sauce which they cleverly name the truffalo... DELICIOUS. Well done, you have my vote for the best truck :) More...

The Turkey sandwich I ordered was extremely well flavored. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the sandwich is super messy. It definitely didn't stay together. If you see this red truck and they are open, drop everything and get in line. After reading about the Fat Shallot I saw that they were a block away. walked over and got myself a Grilled Cheese, they use Sourdough which I love, and spinach inside! what!? their fries were nice thick cut with an audible crunch when you bite into them, whats more is the spicy sesame aioli made it that much better. Fat Shallot is one of those guilty pleasures. After finishing your sandwich at the Fat Shallot you will feel satisfied and full, and a lil greasy. Not that grease is bad by any means. #teamcheese. The grilled cheese: My favorite thing on this menu. Although doesn't have any meat in it, the flavors are astounding and is probably one of the best grilled cheese's I've had. Of course, expect a greasy mess as you eat it, but oh so satisfying. The BLT: Truffle mayo is amazing, but it's a huge sandwich and a little difficult to eat. It's served with bacon, tomato, avocado, and arugula, which I can always get behind. The FRIES are also important. Big fan of the spicy sesame fries. More...

The word authentic is thrown around so much in the restaurant business, I think it's a good word to use, it cuts to the point of what someone is really looking for.  Authentic mexican or Authentic Thai means just that, "the real deal".  However when it comes to food trucks how do you define "an authentic food truck".  I mean for so long food trucks were just dingy taco trucks that sat on the side of the road cooking up mediocre food in a mediocre kitchen by mediocre chefs.  However about 10 years ago there was a food truck renaissances.  Food trucks started making high quality food, by high quality chefs, and with that renaissance came the averages foodies desire to find the authentic food truck renaissance.Well if you find yourself in Chicago please do yourself a favor and visit the Fat Shallot.  It should be your first and last stop when it comes to telling people you had "a real authentic food truck experience".I was visiting from Baltimore last weekend and had a friend bring me here.  I love food, however I have not been able to get that food truck experience yet.  So we went and visited The Fat Shallot.  The three of us ordered it all!  And I will just start out with the two stars of the show (everything is divine, but these things really made my jaw drop).  The Truffle oil BLT is the most amazing combination of flavors that you could ever want in a sandwich.  The bacon is cooked perfectly, and the avocado adds such a level of creaminess and flavor, I could have had 3 of them, I mean come on Bacon and truffles!  I also fell in love with the Spicy sesame fries.  When I first saw them on the menu I had my reservations. I immediately thought I should order the Truffle fries (I mean rosemary salt and truffle oil on fries! how could you go wrong)?  But my friend assured me to try the spicy sesame fries, I am not ashamed to admit it that I went back and ordered a second helping!  They are that good.  I also tasted the buffalo chicken sandwich and the grilled cheese.  They are classics done right.  They deliver the flavors you want and are cooked to perfection. Please I insist of you, if you go visit Chicago find out where this food truck is parked and make a pilgrimage.  Just be prepared to wait a little in line, because this place is not a secret anymore, and Chi-town is eating it up. I found the authentic food truck experience at the Fat Shallot, you should too More...

This truck parks near my office during lunch once a week.  It's the highlight of my week. My favorite is the BLT, with almost too much bacon, tomato, avocado, and arugula, with a truffle mayo that puts it over the top. It's well worth the wait, even if you don't skip the line. A close second, and my favorite on some days is the Turkey, a refreshing and savory sandwich that is great in the warm weather. The grilled cheese is also delicious and easily customized. I have tried some other options here and there, the meatball sandwich-- OMG-- But generally just stick with the two. I have gotten truffle fries once, but I have to draw the line somewhere. More...

Amazing. I will follow them around the whole city wherever they are to get one of their sandwiches.Tried them for the first time a month ago when all the food trucks rolled into Daley Plaza for their food truck Fridays. My coworker and I immediately headed for their truck, as I had been stalking them on twitter for some time and viewing their foodporn. It was lent so I ordered the caramelized onion, spinach and Gruyere grilled cheese. Coworker ordered the croque  monsieur. Both sandwiches came out in about five minutes, despite there being a line. The guy in the truck taking our order was super nice and struck up a conversation with us while we waited. We took our sandwiches back to the office, and eating them made us strike up a conversation of the best meals we've had around the city. They were that good. My grilled cheese was garlicky, gooey, smokey, and the bread was oily and crispy. My coworkers looked and smelled amazing, and he said it was the best croque monsieur he's ever had. For 7-9$ a sandwich, you're looking at the price of a subway meal, but instead you're getting a huge handcrafted gourmet sandwich.Try them today if you haven't and follow them on twitter @thefatshallot to see where they are headed for the day! People always use "like crack" to say things are really tasty and addictive, but I ask you: would crack really be that pleasant to munch on?  Nay I think not... it's time for a new drug-food metaphor.  Rambling setup aside, I'm pretty sure they mix molly into the sauce on their spicy sesame fries.  That shit is off-the-chain delicious, like a yummy rave in my mouth.  And since molly is a powder it's not as nasty as crumbled up crack.Sandwiches are all massive and indulgent as well.  There's so much chicken on the buffalo chicken sandwich that you can take some off and have a side of buffalo chicken with your buffalo chicken sandwich.A little on the pricey side, but you're paying for a gourmet product.  Anytime I see this truck parked in a herd with other trucks, I make a bee-line for it. I'm long overdue for a review update on the Fat Shallot, and I'm happy to report that they've stayed consistently good since I first visited them a year and a half ago (wow, that seems like a long time).A lot of the reviews will mention the BLT (heck, even I did on my first review). I admit, it's a crowd pleaser, but how could it not be, stacked high with bacon and truffle aioli, atop buttery Texas toast? Here's the secret: the BLT, while delicious, is actually not the best thing on the menu. The real star of the menu, in my opinion, is the turkey.Their regular sandwich rotation is the BLT, the grilled cheese, the buffalo chicken, and the turkey. I've tried all but the buffalo chicken (I don't like buffalo sauce, ever, no matter what restaurant/establishment makes it). While all of them have been tasty, the turkey sandwich is the standout for me because it has the best flavor combination and tastes exceptionally fresh, and it's also one of the lighter options on the menu - the others are a bit too rich/fatty for me. The grilled cheese and BLT are on the obvious side - duh, buttery bread, cheese, and bacon taste good, and they'll taste good pretty much in any combination with any other toppings. The turkey, on the other hand, combines basil aioli (officially one of my favorite ingredients now), arugula, avocado, cucumber slices, and turkey breast, all served atop a pretzel bun. The pretzel bun is actually worth singling out - I've never given much thought to bread before, especially not sandwich bread, but their pretzel bun is amazing. I'd probably eat it by itself even without the sandwich filling. I don't know what they put in the bun to give it so much flavor, but it adds a lot to the sandwich and is worth the price of admission in and of itself. The veggies are always crisp and fresh-tasting, and are the perfect complement to the richer aioli and avocado. And finally, the turkey itself is thinly-sliced and packed with flavor.Oh, and the fries are great as well (the house fries are great, truffle fries are great, but I'm not as big a fan of the sesame), but I'd have to be rolled out of there if I ate the entire sandwich with a side of fries. For those with small to medium appetites, it's probably too much food to get both (it's certainly too much food for me).The owners are super nice and I'm very appreciative of the fact that they seem to always run on schedule and update their Twitter feed accordingly - something I cannot say for all food trucks. As you can see, I'm obsessed with the Fat Shallot. I recently got a new job working in the loop and now that the weather is getting nicer, I can finally try all these food trucks I have been dying to go to! The Fat Shallot was number one on my list, mostly because I had seen those fries they have smothered in aioli all over instagram. The line wasn't too bad, about 10 minutes, and the lady taking orders was so nice! I got the turkey sandwich, and it was the BEST turkey sandwich I have ever had. It had arugula and avocado and some sort of pesto mayo I think. It was also HUGE. Along with that, I got the spicy sesame fries which were SO GOOD. That aioli though. Yum. Stopped by for lunch and ordered the Truffle BLT. Huge sandwich with bacon, avocado, argula, tomato, truffle aioli on texas toast. Also ordered a side of spicy sesame fries. The sandwich is loaded with bacon and quite tasty. It's a little difficult to cut in half. The spicy dipping sauce was fantastic! I'm not a fan of spicy food and this sauce is not spicy at all. When I got in line there were about 15 people ahead of me but the line moves fairly quickly. Extremely friendly and they accept debit/credit cards. They were also serving grilled cheese, buffalo chicken and turkey sandwiches which all sounded great. I'll definitely be back! Plus, if you check in you can get a free drink.*8/5/16Ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and regular fries. The sandwich consists of about 3 or 4 crispy chicken tenders doused in their truckmade buffalo sauce, topped with a crunchy celery slaw, and blue cheese. The sauce has a good buffalo wing sauce taste and is a little spicy. The crunchy celery slaw provides the perfect crunch and blue cheese sauce always complements anything doused in buffalo sauce. The fries were fine, as they were a tad undercooked and soggy. More...

Let's face it: a lot, and I mean a LOT of these food trucks are overrated. You stand out there on Clark Street in some ridiculous line only to finally get some food that is "meh" at the very best. Not so, Fat Shallot. This is gourmet comfort food at its finest. The grilled cheese sammies are totally delicious and the ingredients are high quality -- I don't tolerate dairy well, but their sandwiches don't give me the bubble guts. And then there's the piece de resistance: Can you say "truffle fries"? I knew that you could. When you see the little red truck coming, queue up. It's worth your while! More...

We took an hour train ride from the suburbs to downtown Chicago and walked to the location posted on their website. -Found it fairly easily. The main reason we went out of our way was because we watched the episode of Food Court Wars (which aired a while ago), including The Fat Shallot and Taco in a Bag. Taco in a Bag won the episode and now had a location inside Spring Hill Mall. We live fairly close to the mall, so we visit them now and then. I love their food at Taco in a Bag, so I have been curious to see what they were up against. The Fat Shallot had a very different style of food. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It was spot on with the Buffalo flavor. Not too spicy, had the nice balance of celery/coleslaw (I'm not sure what it was but it doesn't matter because I liked it). It was a huge sandwich. I tried to finish it, but only got about 3/4ths of the way there. Also ordered the truffle fries. They were presented nicely with a huge amount of sauce. Which was pretty, but then all the fries on the top had an overbearing amount of sauce and the ones on bottom none at all. The flavor was pretty good though, a little tangy (but in a good way). My boyfriend ordered the grilled cheese and added bacon to it. He said it was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches he ever had. Along with the spicy sesame fries -- I tried these and liked them better than my fries. It was about $30 for the two of us (with a drink each). The drink selection was pretty limited, but I did appreciate the selection they had. The location we were at was in the west loop off of Monroe and Sangamon. It was my first time visiting the truck, but I really locked this location. It was right by a children's park and dog park. And there is conveniently a nice little area to sit, fairly close to their parking spot. It was a great place to sit and enjoy my food.Overall, it was a good experience. There was a lot of delicious food truck food in a nice Chicago location. It was definitely worth the train ride. The only complaints I have aren't really complaints:-Too big portion--- but leads to leftovers-Pricey-- but has big portions-Didn't get to try the Polish sausage, but they said there was a limited availability on the website anywayOh and Taco in a Bag, definitely did have competition. Both restaurants present a fresh take on old classics. But Taco in a Bag is definitely the new fad. More...
