The Downtown Club

Great spot for weddings.  Excellent dinner, chicken.  Bar tenders could be faster and friendlier.  Suggestion- when on break don't take your break at the bar, it will avoid confusion when people are trying to order from you.  Also, we got done bug bites while sitting waiting for our dinner to be served.  Our table was on the carpet, dust mites or , maybe shampoo and treat the carpet more often.  Bathrooms were clean.  Great dance floor also. We went for the bottomless mimosas and brunch. We were literally the only customers until a group of women showed up. The food was really good and they filled our glasses frequently. Take a trip to downtown Fresno and enjoy lunch at the Downtown Club. A very pleasant experience. I enjoyed the pineapple-shrimp salad. No loud music, a bright, cheery atmosphere. and the tables are placed far apart. This all means that people can have a nice conversation during lunch and not hear what the guests at the next table are saying. I especially appreciate the fact that no loud music is playing. It was my first time coming here.... The Spicy Shrimp Special was delicious! I cleaned my plate. My only complaint was the garlic bread was dry. Other than that I'd definitely return. (Plan/Bring quarters for metered parking!) My mom wanted to take my dad here for his birthday. They are only open for lunch, and so we planned a trip over to downtown around the corner from Chuckchansi Stadium. We went around 11:30 and left around 12:30.  There was a large group, but they were in a banquet room off to the side, and then 2 other smaller groups. There was a lot of space, and open lighting! The windows on the roof were a great addition to all the wood panel and decorative stained glass details. It's a cloth napkin and place setting type of place, yet no expectations for dress, at least not for lunch. Everyone eating was pretty casual. Very relaxed, quiet vibe! Note: I came on a hot day, and the waiting/entry way is WAY hotter than the actual dining room. The dinning room itself has fans and air and is very comfortable. They sat all 3 groups present away from each other so we weren't all in one area- which I like.  Service was nice and decent enough, even though a couple things were missed (someone got fries, who ordered soup, but she brought out soup still and let him keep fries, and when soup was brought out waiter forgot to bring a spoon! And mom never got a steak knife for her steak). Again, service was friendly, so even with that said, nothing bad to say. Prompt too! The food was good! They have a mix of American and Mediterranean from what I could tell! my family was very happy with their food too. If I come again I will try an entree.  My choice was the club sandwich- very good thick bacon and good thick turkey. My dad had the Ruben and he enjoyed it. He asked for some mustard to top it off.  Mom had sirloin steak and veggies. I was almost sad I didn't order that because it looked great!! She said it was cooked to her liking, just would have been better to have a steak knife.  My sis orders the chicken fatoush salad... let me say this looked amazing, grilled chicken looked great! She said it was flavorful. Sadly, I took no pictures of the food, we dug in so quickly. Overall, I'm happy to know about this place. Lunch only, in downtown makes it harder for me to get to, but I hope others can enjoy it! Also posted happy hour hours too. This is a delightful, bright, cheery place to enjoy lunch in downtown Fresno. It is quiet and the tables are far apart so conversation can be enjoyed and not hear what the people at next table are saying. There was nice jazz playing in the background which was just at the right sound level so as not to disturb our conservation. The ambiance is perfect. I'm a big fan of the restaurants Downtown.  There are truly some hidden gems, this being one of them.  For those not familiar this is the third or fourth iteration of The Downtown Club.  For many years it was a private establishment, that is no longer the case.  Tucked into a building that used to house the Fresno Republican Newspaper, its not hidden but it would be easy to drive right past it. It's definitely got an old school vibe when you walk in.  The old printing press is still in the back corner which makes for a cool backdrop.  The building is mostly exposed brick and wood beams, which again I think is a cool setup.My first time here I had the DTC Short Rib burger, which was great.  Today I had the spicy chicken, which was great.  The staff is very friendly and the service was good.  If there is a downside it is the parking.  Unfortunately the City of Fresno doesn't have smart meters so you've got to have a bunch of quarters or a parking card(I need to get one).  But seriously, this is the only drawback I've found about this place.  Give it a try, I think you'll be glad you did. Just had a delicious lunch: penne pasta with chicken, vegetables, and a creamy pesto sauce. Slices of garlic toast came with it. Eleven bucks for that.
