I don't even know where to begin. Gary truly went above and beyond for us not only on the wedding day, but every day leading up to it as well. If there was anything I needed I knew Gary would be the guy to help! He was running after everything from microphone stands to knives to cut the pie. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
Have the experience with reading a crowd is essential. While there may be similarities from one wedding to the next, each crowd is unique. One weekend I'll be playing mostly new and classic country and it packs the dance floor, then the next weekend I'll have a crowd that wants 90's pop and 2000's hip hop and that's what packs the dance floor. Plus taking and playing requests is very important and helps the guests get out on the dance floor and get excited when they hear their song.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
I bring a fun and professional experience to each reception. While I'm there to DJ and play music, I also help coordinate the events of the night (announce dinner/dismiss tables, cake cutting, toasts, games, etc.). Taking care of my customers before and during their reception makes it much easier for them so they can enjoy the night and not feel like they have to do all the work.
What do you love most about your job?
I love helping brides and grooms plan their weddings! There is so much that goes into planning a wedding and many times they feel overwhelmed or simply don't know where to start. I enjoy visiting with them, getting to know them, and talking with them about their plans. Then on their wedding day, I get to see them happy and celebrating with their families and friends...and playing the music they want to dance to and making it a night to remember!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I used to work for a radio station that had a mobile DJ service and it was part of my job. They decided to discontinue that service and focus more on the radio side. However, I loved being a mobile DJ and wanted to continue being one! In 2001 I started The DJ Music System and have enjoyed seeing my business grow every year. I get to help couples with their plans, play a great mix of music, and basically get invited to so many celebrations!
