My name is Matthew Redlaw and I am a comedy magician. I have been performing for 30 years. This includes during my service in the Army and deployments to Afghanistan.
My sense of humor is deeply sarcastic honed by a sharp sense of wit. This was likely developed while performing for my fellow Soldiers while under rocket and mortar attack (something that sets me apart from my peers).

Our group had nothing but the best things to say about the show last night! The Deceptionist was one of the best entertainers we have had to our SWCD Annual Meeting, and although the group can be sometime stuffy and not interested in the entertainment that I bring in for our meeting, I would have to say with all the laughter and interest I hit the nail right on the head when I found The Deceptionist. I have a feeling this show will be talked about for years to come!! If you are looking for something different and I mean different in a good way, you should give Matthew a call!! Matt has helped with two events at the RVFD. He never ceases to amaze me!! He is able to entertain the little children as well as the teens and adults! How long have you been interested in magic?
I have been performing for over 30 years. In fact, I still perform the very first effect that I ever learned, The Color Monte.
Take us through your show – what can we expect?
Whether it is performing on stage, or walk around, I engage your guests in an intimate way, bringing the magic directly to them. In doing so I create interest in others, drawing people into the show. Individuals who have never met are now bonded by an amazing experience. This can bridge the awkwardness of meeting new people. Magic performed at an event will generate rounds of applause, laughter, and a degree of excitement that will spread throughout the room. This great atmosphere will help introduce people to one another, break the ice at tables and ensure that everybody gets into the party mood.
If your goal is to draw a crowd or highlight a product or concept, I can accomplish this for you as well. Nothing gets people’s attention like the impossible. Especially since we live in a world of absolute form and structure.
What do you love most about your job?
Inspiring happiness and wonder is the best part about my job. No where was this more apparent than when I was deployed to Afghanistan. I volunteered at the South Korean and Egyptian hospitals twice a week to perform for sick and wounded children. I was also able to go out with our Civil Affairs teams and bring my art to orphanages and schools in our region as well. To be able to bring happiness and amazement to children in that war torn region was an incredible experience.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My experiences in the Army. I realized that being hyper sarcastic is great while in stage... not so much in the board room.
Why should our clients choose you?
I understand that you have a need. You need to deliver amazing and unique entertainment that will leave your guests talking for years. I give you that. Then when I'm done, I disappear (pun intended) so your event can continue without interruption. Additionally, I can adapt to virtually any audience, space, or time constraints. For example, putting on a PG13 show for an Amish client appreciation luncheon (one of the best shows ever)!
