What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing people transform their thinking, emotions and behaviour to get where they want to be. Change is not easy and I relish the challenge of supporting clients through the natural ups and downs of the change process. Each person is different and it is exciting and challenging to find the key that opens the door to self-discovery and change for each individual. We are learning so much about how the brain operates and this is filtering through to practitioners, offering new methods and new opportunities for coaches and counsellors like myself.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started my business 28 years ago because I wanted to bring my business experience, understanding of group dynamics and psychological counselling knowledge together. Management/Leadership training and coaching seemed like the perfect platform because people in the corporate world were struggling with issues of stress, poor communication, organisational politics, dysfunctional team working, discrimination and poor work-life balance. There was a stigma about seeking help from a professional counsellor and therefore people were often suffering in silence. By bringing a practical, yet theoretically sound approach into the corporate environment, I could reach a wider range of people and help them to change trajectory and achieve greater fulfilment in their professional and personal lives. However, I recognise that people often want to work with a private coach/counsellor so that they can explore a wider range of personal as well as professional issues. Using the telephone and internet, clients can now access my services at the times that are most convenient for them.
