The Coach House is situated within Marks Hall, a 250 acre arboretum. An 18th Century Coach House with brick and exposed timber frames was once used to house horse drawn coaches for the Mansion House. With its own private garden, which flowers throughout the summer season, the coach house is filled with charm, ambience and character.

Most tranquil place with ancient trees, lovely walks and woods and interesting gardens. It also has a very good tea room and will not break the bank to visit!

A lovely place to visit. We went on a sunny Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed a stroll through the grounds, taking lots of photographs of the birds (including ducklings, goslings and a peacock) as well as the trees, plants and views.

Be sure to buy some fish food from the ticket office to feed the fish in the lake - there are lots of them; some of them are very big; and all of them seem to be attracted by the food resulting in something of a feeding frenzy!

Before visiting the Gardens and Arboretum we enjoyed a light lunch in the Visitors' Centre, where there is also a gift shop. The food here is so good that we have been known to call in at the Visitors' Centre just for lunch or for coffee and cake without visiting the grounds. Parking and access to the Visitors' Centre are free - you only pay to visit the Gardens and Arboretum.

Don’t waste your money if you’re bringing a dog. Paid £11.50 to walk around a perimeter road where you see nothing. Since dogs aren’t allowed in the arboretum (which is fine) you shouldn’t have to pay the full price to walk around a road you could walk on in any other part of the country. Staff on the gate couldn’t care less that we questioned the fee on the way out- it clearly wasn’t for the upkeep of the road we walked on as she claimed. It was suggested we leave our dog in the car and walk around the arboretum (it was 21 degree heat.) Absolutely would not recommend. Didn’t use cafe so can’t comment.

Tucked away down a narrow road but well signposted. Free parking and access to the cafe, shop and plant sales. Paying access to the rest of the estate. Lots of paths and a helpful map given on entry. Lots of trees and plants to be amazed by. Ducks and geese make the various ponds their home. Great family day out but beware of the water if your kids are small.

Beautiful arboretum with lakes, walks, gardens and fish. Fantastic cafe and helpful staff.
In summer you can spend hours walking through the woods and gardens. Last year they had the most amazing sculptures, so really hope they return for 2018.
During winter you need a good pair of boots and a big coat to make the most of their woods and tracks. It's a stunning site all year round.
The lovely old barn cafe is always good with fresh home made food and good drinks. The big woodburner is always alight so it's a cosy refuge in the less perfect weather.
We're very lucky to have Marks Hall So near by.

An enjoyable day walking through the trees.
Winter coloured stems by the lake were breathtaking.
Finished off with a nice bowl of hot soup in the cafe.

Our day was so so perfect!!!! The venue is outstanding and most of our wedding guests had never been there before so were totally wowed when walking behind then gazebo and seeing the gorgeous lake and land. It was helped by the absolutely stunning weather too!! Lisa was incredible leading up to the day and was patient with my hundreds of emails!!! Jemma made me feel so at ease on the day and loads of my guests mentioned how lovely and accommodating she was!! She regularly made me sit down and take a moment which helped me take everything in. Genuinely can't thank you all enough! Best venue ever!

We got married at the Coach House, Marks Hall on the 1st july and it was the happiest day of our life. The setting is absolutely stunning and the facilities are spot on, but alongside this, what made the Coach House such a wonderful venue were the amazing staff. The Wedding team at the Coach House made sure absolutely everything ran smoothly from the moment of booking two years ago to the big day itself. We met many of the lovely coordinators who we really couldn't have planned a Wedding without, a special thanks to lovely Jenae who was our coordinator on the day and made everything run smoothly, to Clare and Lisa who were always at the end of an email helping us out with everything from small touches to the really important things, and to Sam the bar manager at the Coach house who let us request our favourite drinks and was a laugh on the day. My husband and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend getting married at beautiful Marks Hall, a truly beautiful setting which I have been visiting since childhood.

I can not begin to thank The Coach House enough!! They were amazing through out the whole of our time planning our big day! They were so flexible and helpful, letting us into the Coach House to trial our set up, lending us items and generally understanding our vision for our special day and helping us to achieve that. The grounds at Marks Hall are one of the best around Essex for photo opportunities too! If you go with their contracted caterers Limeberry you will not be disappointed! I'm a massive foodie and their food was exceptional, presented so beautifully and again they were really flexible and open to our ideas when it came to being creative with our evening food. Thank you to all the staff at the Coach House but in particular Lisa, our co-ordinator who was just amazing! Mr and Mrs Swingwood xxx

I really don't know what I can write to praise Marks Hall enough for everything they did for us for our wedding last month. Clare, Lisa, Sam and Adam made us feel so welcome and so at ease here that we just knew our wedding would be perfect. We had a really difficult few months leading up to the wedding and they were amazing with us. People did not stop telling us all day what a great time they were having, and how delicious the food was. Even now people are still telling us that our wedding was amazing and that was in large part down to you guys. Lisa we really do appreciate everything you did for us and we can not thank you enough. You made a really difficult and stressful time for us so much easier, as we knew we had nothing to worry about with the venue and food which with everything else going on was a welcome relief. Marks Hall will most definitely be the first place we recommend in the future!!
