Fabulous food. My girlfriend said the lamb is the best she has every had.
great wedding venue. loved it. Staff are the best. Helpful and courteous .
Absolutely magical place for a getaway.
Greàt place for a getaway weekend. Good for and friendly service
We booked two rooms in the main building, both of which were comfortable, but one of which (with the bedroom in the attic) would be completely unsuitable for someone with slightly limited mobility. The car park was full on arrival (there would have been two free spaces if other people had parked considerately), but there is a large public car park behind the property where there were plenty of spaces. We had dinner in the pub, which was good (rather than exceptional) and breakfast the next morning was also good. Overall an enjoyable stay. More...

What can we say, the Bell is a very special wedding venue, made even more special by the quality of its staff, accommodation, food, and drink it has to offer! We were married, dined, partied, and stayed at the Bell on our wedding day, and had the most fantastic time! The day ran smoothly, without a hitch, and their experienced team made it look effortless...while making us and our guests feel special. I will recommend the Bell to everyone! A great place for a pint after a day's work. But be careful seating is lacking during the busy hours. If there's a wedding on you'll be fighting your way to the bar. However that being said, a excellent and cosy pub in Ticehurst with friendly staff and an open fire. Definitely recommend if you're passing through Ticehurst More...
We booked a room for 2 nights for a chilled weekend away from the city. Such a lovely inn located in a small village, we were so pleased that we picked this place. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food and drinks were great. Everything was really amazing, nonemoreso than the room, which was truly special. Our spacious room had a beautiful rustic theme, with a rolled copper bath, which was big enough for 2. The bed was huge and comfortable, with lovely sheets and pillows. Let's start.by stressing just how important an eveby this was! A much anticipated wedding between two very well-loved people, my daughter being one! They had chosen The Bell "apparently" because it was by its own admission quirky. It also did good food, had fun little hobbit lodges in the extremely hobbitty garden, was somewhere we knew from her childhood and for the !lovely parish church 200 metres away complete with extremely friendly and cheerful vicar!! Good reasons and all made this an epic eveny!||||As far as the welcome and organisation, the Staff were faultless AND fun! We would like particularly to name check Tessa who was i/c the wedding and Hannah who very efficiently have me the information in plenty of time to m/c the day. Hannah was really spot on, in control but never dictating, just keeping things moving while Tessa made sure beforehand that everything was perfect even allowing for an extra guest at the last moment. |||| Everyone, all the guests, raved about the place as being just right, the food was fantastic (great fish Scotch eggs followed by yummy lamb shoulder and nanny's home made wedding cake. Photos in the garden were fab, the coach room was a super.original place for the speeches, the room for dancing was ideal and there was a snug downstairs for a bit of quiet. At 1100 we went out to the fire pit to toast marshmallows in the (by now still and beautifully clear evening under the stars) and then back to our lodge,Pretty Vacant which was very comfy and well-equipped.||||On Saturday I briefly chatted to Howard the manager mainly because I thought he was a guest I did not recognise!! Howard, you should be very proud of your staff, from the housekeepers who eagerly awaited at the bottom of the stairs to see the bride in all her finery, to the Bar staff particularly the Bearded Wonder who served breakfast and generally helped lots to the cheerful chefs who seemed as jolly in the morning as the evening. Also the gent in the office who kindly sorted out the stuff we left behind on the Sunday !||||And a message to anyone who wants a smallish wedding (80 guests): The Bell will do you proud!! It was for us "apparently" perfect! More...

My wife and I come here each year for our anniversary, and will continue to do so. Our reasons for coming fall into three categories. The exquisite quirky rooms and cabins, superb food, and customer service that is as friendly as it comes. If you like unusual, items that have been re-cycled lovingly to add a distorted reality, then this is the place for you. From trees rising up through the floorboards to "secret" upstairs cubbyholes to listen to your vinyl, typewriters in the fireplace to books stacked 80 high from floor to ceiling making an alternative frame, there are delights everywhere in your room, the pub/restaurant and the glorious gardens. This year we stayed in The Love Nest again. It's not cheap, but if you want that special night away, it is worth it. I'll add some photos to the review. We always have dinner here, and again, it's not cheap, but we have never once been disappointed with the quality of the food or the service, the cleanliness or the atmosphere. This time we each went for the Ribeye. I have mine well done, which at my age I have come to realise is not something every chef can do well. They can here! We even ordered a side that wasn't on the menu, and it was provided. I hate to say it, but the puddings only came in at 4 stars this time. The chocolate cake was drier than it should have been, but with the honeycomb ice-cream it was still lovely. And customer service; well, I will not go into details as it's private, but when an issue arose and we bought it to the attention of the team, they couldn't have acted quicker or more apologetically. Things sometimes go wrong, but it is a delight when such effort is then offered to put it right. So, basically, if you are looking for a treat, a place to spoil yourself for a birthday or anniversary, and you like quirky, give The Bell a try. They do so much more than that, but my review is based on what we go there for, and to encourage others to do the same. P.S. And the beds are so big and comfy :-) More...

We also had dinner but the menu in places is a little obscure and google was required to check for some items. Ignore the sample menu online to some degree because there are more “normal “ dishes available .|The rooms continue with being quirky and individually decorated with names on the doors not numbers . We decided to upgrade to a lodge which are individual and very private. |It was largely a good call BUT not without some grumbles.|We were warned that the hot water tank supplied each lodge individually and would only supply one bath and take about an hour to supply another . A shower it was!|The room was super hot and not easy to moderate considering the exterior climate was very poor so opening windows was not an option. |Conversely, the bathroom was freezing and no obvious way to turn on the towel rail ( not that that would have done much good). There is no soap just shower gel. Weird.|There is a good sound system to plug your mobile device into and an extremely comfortable bed.|Overall it’s lovely but I would have to think carefully about a revisit but it is fairly priced so I probably will. The Room:||We weren't too sure what to expect when booking the Bell but had seen lots of good reviews online so we were feeling confident. The room was above our expectations, it was presented as an authentic local pub inn but with lots of quirky additions (particularly liked the fork coat hangers and flamingo lamp). The bed was really comfortable so both me and my boyfriend had a great nights sleep. Really enjoyed some of the smaller touches such as the cookies and tea making facilities in the room.||||The Food:||We booked dinner at the pub's restaurant, I was a little sceptical about the lack of veggie options I'd seen on the website, however, the Chaufa Rice (without egg) was extremely tasty so I was left satisfied. The staff was helpful during our meal and explained to us parts of the dishes we were confused about. After dinner our waiter let us have some more drinks in the snug which was a lovely living room area with an open fireplace. ||||The Area:||Ticehurst is a nice quiet village in East Sussex, the staff was nice enough to provide us with some suggested routes so we could have an explore. Lovely bit of grub, staff were friendly and welcoming
We booked to stay at The Bell after finding it listed by The Telegraph as one of the best UK pubs with rooms. We arrived early as we’d travelled quite a distance to visit and as expected our room wasn’t quite ready so we took a stool at the bar and ordered a couple of drinks while we waited. We instantly felt at home as everyone is really friendly including both the staff and the locals. The pub has a real charm to it and boasts lots of character with old beams and open fires as well as quirky touches such as pillars made from old books, mismatched chairs and jenga sets for you to play with. Feeling a little bit peckish after our journey we ordered 3 dishes from the ‘morsels’ section of the menu along with some olives and chips. We thought these would be relatively small but this wasn’t the case as the portions sizes are super generous. Our favourite snack was their halloumi sticks with chipotle mayonnaise, these are a must try! Once we were ready, we were shown to our lodge, The Love Nest, which is located in the garden area where there is again little quirks like signs that say ‘Please Don’t Frolic In The Flower Beds’ which I absolutely loved. In regards to the room, I’d fallen in love with the Love Nest after seeing pictures of it online which is why I booked it but honestly the pictures don’t do it justice! It’s by far the best place we’ve ever stayed, simply because we’ve never stayed anywhere else like it - it really is quite unique! Just like the pub this lodge instantly makes you feel at home and the warm cookies were a lovely little welcome touch too. After taking a stroll through the village, we came back, lit the fire, ran a bath and watched a film – it was just the most perfect place for the cosy post-Christmas getaway we both needed. Word of advice, don’t make plans when you stay in this lodge because you need to enjoy the room. As well as the copper bathtub in the room itself, there’s also a twin headed shower in the bathroom and if that’s not enough there’s also a roof top terrace! There’s no real view from it however, I imagine it would be great to sit up there on a summers evening and have a few drinks. After a very lazy afternoon, we headed for some dinner in the restaurant. The menu is relatively limited but personally neither of us struggled to choose something from it. To start, I had salmon ceviche with avocado, sea weed and yellow tiger’s milk which was fresh and zingy. For main, I had their ribeye steak which came with chimichurri and chips. The steak was great, one of the best I’ve eaten in a long time and the chips were to die for! The boyfriend had the leek, potato and jalapeno soup to start with which he really enjoyed due to it being that little bit more that a bog standard soup thanks to the addition of some heat. For his main he had the pork belly but unfortunately this was ever so slightly overcooked. For dessert, I had the blackberry mess, a deconstructed blackberry Eton mess, which was delicious and a lovely light end to the meal. We had a bottle of white rioja with dinner which I have to say wasn’t great as it was very acidic but other than this we had no complaints. Breakfast the next day was good. There was a selection of cereals along with yoghurt, milk and compote as well as pastries, toast and orange juice for you to help yourself to. You could also order something from the kitchen if you wanted to. I liked the fact there were some slightly different things to choose from on the menu like fried eggs with chorizo and tomato salsa. That said we both opted for their house breakfast with scrambled egg. It was okay when it finally arrived but nothing to write home about. The negative for me was how long it took! I think we waited about half an hour for it which is far too long in my opinion. However, all in all we absolutely loved our stay at The Bell and would happily return. More...
If the manageress was fazed to see our party of eight including four exuberant young children, she did not show it, instead smiling and taking trouble to seat us, making space at the table for the kids' colouring and toys and swiftly producing our bottle of fizz and nibbles. The Bell Inn has a single large atmospheric dining and drinking area with quirky but classy decoration and helpful and solicitous young staff. The food is as good as in any East Sussex pub with the whitebait, scotch egg and the halloumi as stand-out dishes. Prices are fair but with so many temptations on the menu can start to add up; however our overall experience was a great success. More...

I booked the Bell Inn to whisk my new lady off for a romantic night away. I originally booked a suite through Travel Zoo but after speaking to the wonderful Rai I upgraded to one of the lodges - Pour L'armour. ||We arrived at 2pm for early check-in and walked into the most wonderful inns I've been in, full of character and charm the setting was perfect. After ordering wine we checked in and Rai showed us to our lodge at the back of the inn. From the outside it looked like a little hobbit house but inside - wow! The lodge was simply perfect in every way and so romantic. Pour L'amour has beautiful silk roses suspended from the vaulted ceiling and lots of lovely quirky features which add to the charm and ambience.||We returned to the bar area and spent the afternoon chatting and enjoying the surroundings before dining in the restaraunt, both choosing fish n chips which were divine.||The lodges have a secluded decked area with log burner which we used to full effect as we spent the evening outside listening to music through the integral sound system.||After a wonderful nights sleep we had full English breakfast - but I'm bed! Absolutely divine!!||Taking advantage of the late check out we stayed as long as possible in such beautiful surroundings.||Thank you to Rai and all the staff at the Bell Inn for a wonderfully romantic stay. Great pub!! Decent food and attentive staff
We had the most wonderful break at The Bell. We were booked in for a double room but were kindly upgraded to 'Between the lines'. We loved the pub which seemed to have the special ability to still feel like a local and yet also serve top notch food. The fire burned throughout and made for a really cosy atmosphere despite the falling temperatures. The welcome was excellent and we were taken to our lodge and shown around so that we didn't miss out on all the nice touches. We LOVED the mezzanine and found ourselves picking up some more vinyl in Hastings; this was our first time away for a night without the kids for a while and drinking wine whilst listening to old records was just what we were after. Being able to go to your room throughout the day was also really welcome. We were lucky enough to also book in for an evening meal and shared the steak which was absolutely superb. The staff went out of their way to look after us and even took on sterilising bottles and breast pumping gear for us. Great breakfast as well. We didn't get a chance to explore Ticehurst but quickly recognised that we will back again, I've a feeling that birthday/ special occasion presents will now be dominated by gifts of trips to The Bell from now on. We stayed for one night in this quirky and cosy hotel. The room felt unique and historic and was nice and toasty during a particularly cold snap, which was definitely appreciated! The bed initially felt a little soft for my liking but I got a good night's sleep. I loved he uniqueness of the room itself with some interesting original fittings and touches. I would say in the bathroom that whilst the claw legged bath was aesthetically pleasing, I would have preferred a shower, as I had to sit in the bath and shower using The attachment which was a little awkward. The breakfast was really good & the staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again. More...

What a find ... a convivial local pub in a thriving village with real flair in its decor and true attention to detail. Our room, "The benefit of the doubt", was spacious, with a sumptuous mattress and bedding, powerful hot water, lovely toiletries, fluffy towels. .. but the most impressive aspect was the decor! A silver birch trunk at the bottom of the bed... copper bath and antique style tiles, antique typewriter in the fire place... like a walking into a beautifully styled photo shoot.||||The road outside is quiet after about 10 pm with no early traffic, Great breakfast... great staff... great location ...||||If you appreciate interesting interiors and like staying in welcoming pubs, this is to be recommended. Deco et ambiance très agréable.
I booked to stay in one of the lodges via Secret Escapes. We were allocated Pretty Vacant which was lovely with some quirky touches, half chairs used as side tables and coins artfully embedded in the wood flooring. We did have a small terrace with a fire pit that we endeavoured to light but without success. The only thing I would have preferred was a window that opened as although we had a sliding door to the terrace we couldn't really keep this open at night so the room was a tad hot but the huge bed was really comfortable. ||The staff were very welcoming on check in and indeed throughout our stay. I had booked to eat in the pub restaurant for the evening as it was my husband's birthday. We decided to go for the sharing steak which had been cooked to perfection but alas we couldn't eat it all and asked for a doggy bag. Perhaps without starters we could have managed it but everything was so tempting. ||Breakfast was equally well done with a selection of cereals toast, juices and pastries, I would recommend the homemade granola which was delicious. There is also a hot breakfast menu which was equally tasty. Again staff were very friendly and service very good. The pubs quirkiness is apparent everywhere with bowler hat light shades and a tower of old books almost willing someone to push them over. ||We asked to look around some of the pub rooms in anticipation of another stay and they are also lovely and very spacious. ||My husband thoroughly enjoyed his birthday and we both enjoyed our stay here. There is really nothing negative to stay and I am sure we will visit again soon. More...
