Wow is all I can say.I went here on a family outing. We all enjoyed our dishes very much. The pesto eggs benedict is superb. The egg and pesto paired with arugula and light and flaky pastry makes a wonderful combination. The lemon ricotta pancakes are a delicacy. They come with real maple syrup, but that is not needed as the lemon ricotta topping more than satisfies.The outdoor seating is nice. I hope to come back here for breakfast again soon. This is a delightful little spot. Great jazz and they often have artists exhibit in the space. I haven't eaten the food but they have great drinks and the ambiance (inside and out) is laid back and relaxing.

I went here on a Saturday night for something different with my girlfriend. We aren't huge Jazz enthusiasts but love live music. 1905 was wonderful, the Kareem Kandi Band was playing that night. They had 3 friends in the audience that went on stage and performed with them periodically. The energy was high, the place was packed and the music was amazing. The food was an added bonus as it was also good. In the summer and on warm nights they have a garage door with an outdoor seating area. Arrived at 8:45, almost two hours late for a friend/co-worker's birthday party. The place was packed on a Tuesday night, but to be fair our party took up a good quarter of the space. The $5 cover was more than fair for the fantastic set that the Matt Sazima trio (and friends) put on. The bartender poured me one of the best Torontos I've ever had, and the Luchagroni was a very earthy and unique take on a negroni, made with Vida mezcal that you could smell from across the bar and a flamed rosemary spring that really stood out. The 1905 is more than another bar in the Mississippi neighborhood, it is a water hole for anyone that cares about good food (brunch or dinner), handcrafted cocktails, and good jazz. This place was a miraculous find when I stumbled across it in August, and has me coming back on a weekly basis. Small and friendly place with a big patio with outdoor seating. Jazz trio plays brunch on weekend starting at noon, get there early to get a seat if you don't have reservations.

Update:Finally, we made a proper visit! We came to try their highball week cocktail, the Bananas Imposter, and lucked out that it was also happy hour. My partner and I both got the Bananas Foster, a deliciously fruity, but not too sweet concoction of rum, pineapple, orange, orgeat and vanilla bitters, with a torched banana segment. I would get this again or try to make it at home. We also had happy hour pizza slices: one cheese ($1!) and two Oregon truffle ($3). Wow! I loved the Oregon truffle pizza since it didn't have red sauce and it had the perfect ratio of cheese, truffle flavor, and crispy crust. The cheese slice was good too. We will be back for more pizza and come in later so we can catch the jazz - we tried to pop in later but the place was packed, so we only stayed for a few minutes, but the music was great! We ordered online, and took to go, which worked pretty well, I went to the bar and said I had an online order. The mozzarella sticks were excellent! instead of the normal frozen, processed you remember from being a kid, they cut up a mozzarella ball in slices, then bread and fry those. The flavors are much fresher, and the mozzarella's real flavor comes through. The truffle pizza was full of flavor and the crust had a great crunch and chewiness that is really enjoyable. Loved it! Great pizza, and several original variations. Must try! They always fill them with ingredients, so much so, that even though the crust is thin, I get full with only 2 slices, when normally I'd eat three! (And I consider myself a normal eating person!) Always great jazz and their pizza is the real thing!

There was live music, the food was great and I really enjoyed the drinks, the 1905 has a good atmosphere.

So I went back to the 1905 last night.  My favorite music venue in Portland so far. I ordered a pizza last night, small 1/2 Truffle, 1/2 Sausage.  The pizza is good, not excellent. If one rated places by the quality of the music there, this place would get 6 stars cause the Charlie Porter Quintet was most amazing. This place is incredible. The pizza is fabulous, the venue beautiful! The service was fantastic and I can't believe they didn't have a cover for the amazing music we enjoyed. I'd give this 6 stars if I could!!

Great jazz venue, with excellent pizza.

I love their pizza and the staff is great.  My only complaint is that when I try to call in a to go order, they rarely ever answer the phone, and this isn't during busy hours at all (4-5pm weekdays).

As a venue, The 1905 is solid. Great performers regularly and good space acoustically for the groups they host. As a bar, they have great drinks, and a fabulous bartending staff. I always enjoy a cocktail or two when I visit.As for pizza, this is one of my favorite spots in town. There are so so so many pizza places in this town, but I have my go-to spots. This is always solid and Aaron has the wizardry, science and art down of a good pie. Come check it out if you haven't yet. It's worth it. Great (free) live jazz music and very good pizza. What more could you want? The pizza is one of my favorites in town.This place gets packed when certain bands are playing so come early if you want a seat. Don't expect stellar service when there is live music, the place is sometimes packed to the brim and staff can't keep up. What a gem just off Mississippi. I noticed the sign from the corner of my eyes and it draw me to a welcoming patio surrounded by an old black iron fence that lead to a small lounge with stage and a small bar in the back. The layout is very open and from every side you have a direct view of the band.The bar staff is really friendly and knowledgeable and all seem to have an affinity for jazz music. One of the server on a couple occasion picked up the mic and wow. The 1905 is just off of Mississippi Avenue on Shaver Street on the east side of Portland. This off the beaten path bar with a lovely patio and live jazz music is a must experience. While the inside is not for those that may experience claustrophobia; those who are willing to dive into a small music venue won't be disappointed in their overall experience. Great music, better food.

I can't quit thinking about how amazing the food is here! We started with the caprese salad and mozzarella sticks. Super fresh. Could've stopped there but ordered a margherita pizza and I'm so happy we did. I'm always looking for pizza crust that tastes as good as the crust made in Venice and I think I finally found it here. It was my last night in Portland. My bestfriend, her sister, and I stepped into this beautiful gem of a place where there was an Open Mic happening. We really enjoyed ourselves there. Had a few drinks, ate some really good garlic knots w/fresh marinara sauce, and I had to buy a slice of pepperoni pizza. I was not disappointed!!Open mic was so good too. We all love live music and all these artists were so deep in their feelings that it came out in their music and poetry. The only complaint I personally had was that I didnt know if I had to go to the bar and order because I did see a sign but it was tucked in the corner and I did see a few servers taking  plates and serving pizza especially mine but nothing else. I also had to flag the chef down for a menu. Other that I enjoyed myself and I will be coming back for the food and drink and the live music. More...

Really good, Italian-type/roughly Neapolitan-ish pizza. Some very pro jazz quartets, if you're into that sort if of thing (Mel Brown's kid, Chris Brown, plays there regularly). No complaints.
