I have been meaning to write this review for a long time, but I wanted to be able to sit down and write Dan the review he deserves. I’ve so enjoyed looking back through wedding photos on our one year anniversary (can’t believe a year has already flown by!) because Dan did such a beautiful job. If you want someone who is organized, thorough, and a talented photographer, you should hire Terpstra Photography for your wedding (or any event for that matter). Dan is very experienced and patient, and he goes above and beyond by taking the time to sit down with you beforehand to plan a detailed schedule for the day. He’s realistic with expectations and offers great advice to make sure your wedding goes as smoothly as possible. Since he’s seen so many scenarios, his expertise is invaluable. He also offers an engagement shoot as a great way to get to know the couple (not to mention some fantastic save the date photos).

On the day of, Dan is extremely professional and organized, and he is very respectful of the couple’s vision. He’s very energetic and gives his all into making your big day go smoothly (including being able to corral big groups to get some great shots). His service is very personal, and he feels much more like a guest and a friend than someone you’ve hired.

After the wedding, Dan was FAST in getting our photos to us!!! It was amazing. He had compiled the highlights into a “Story of the Day” album less than two weeks after our wedding! We were able to look at the photos the week we got back from our honeymoon. The photographs are incredible; Dan truly has amazing talent. He captured the moments of our big day wonderfully, and everyone was so impressed with how well he captured the nuanced expressions and situations. Dan’s also great at narrowing down the photos to the highlights, so you don’t have to look through thousands of photos right off the bat. You of course have access to all the photos with a USB drive that Dan mails after the wedding.

I’m looking forward to ordering my Storybook with Dan. It’s taking me a long time to narrow down my favorites because there are too many good ones to choose from! We knew after researching and after our engagement photo session with Dan that he was going to provide us with the best experience, along with phenomenal pictures for our wedding, and he did just that. We just finished our wedding and we could not be more impressed with his work ethic, positive and high energy throughout, and his talented skills as a photographer. His work speaks for itself and his personality, passion for what he does, and professionalism are also just as admirable. He, and I have to include John who was wonderful as well, went above and beyond to create a comfortable atmosphere for not only us, but for our large wedding party and our families. Dan was absolutely amazing! He was professional, friendly, and exceeded our expectations! We were so impressed with how he managed to capture every moment and not be intrusive. Dan really understood what we wanted and learned so quickly, which is especially impressive since we had a gay Jewish wedding, which isn't so common, but he asked the right questions and did all the right things. Wow - Dan & John were AMAZING. When we chose them to shoot our wedding, we did so mostly because we had seen some of their pictures and liked their style. But they far exceeded our expectations. Dan did a wonderful job of taking command when necessary, making everyone feel super comfortable, and working his tail off to get the best shots. When we saw all of our pictures after the wedding we were blown away that he was able to get some of the shots because we never noticed Dan or John unless they were staging a formal shot. Many of our guests told us how wonderful they thought the photographers were because of their impressive ability to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time...and they were hilarious one on one!The Party Booth was a huge hit. We had debated if it would be worth it or if it would take away from dancing, but frankly the pictures are worth it 10 times over and it was mostly used during the cocktail hour and when people needed to cool off from the dance floor. Absolutely would do it again - we got amazing candid pictures of our guests having fun! Ultimately I would absolutely recommend Dan for any future wedding. My husband and I were lucky enough to have Dan as a photographer at our wedding reception. He worked extremely hard to ensure that we were comfortable, excited and looking our best for each and every photo. Dan's humor and creative drive helped us look natural through our individual, couple and group shots. He reminded us to laugh and even made family photos fun. Dan is open to new ideas, will work to get the perfect shots (even in the rain) and was a breath of fresh air on a very busy day. We really appreciated his expertise, suggestions and ambition to make our dream photos come to life. I would highly recommend Dan as a wedding photographer. He will work tirelessly to ensure that you have wedding photos that you can cherish for years to come. Dan is an amazing photographer! His energy and overall handle of his art provided our day with the control it needed when the weather got out of hand! He rescued us when another photographer backed out. His pricing was beyond reasonable for the product and service we received. He took our special day, caught the moments on camera, and made the best of the weather situation! His photos not only captured exactly how we all looked, but how we all felt and interacted with each other during the event, despite the inclement weather. It has been just over five years since I got married, and from time to time I find myself looking through my collection of wedding photos. Five years later, I’m still amazed at how perfectly Dan captured our day. As nervous as I was, you can’t detect it in the photos, and I think it has a lot to do with knowing we were in good hands.Every bride has a few “mission critical” moments… things that, under no circumstance, should be left to chance. I prided myself in thinking I was a fairly laid back bride when it came to wedding planning. I was prepared to roll with the punches. When it came to selecting a photographer, however, I knew that my inner bridezilla had the potential to rear her ugly head, as I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted and what I did not want. From the very first phone consultation, I could tell Dan was the consummate professional. He asked a lot of questions that not only helped him understand what I was looking for in terms of shots, but he also had questions related to how the day would play out that actually helped me plan other aspects of my wedding. He openly offered ideas to help in the timing/sequencing of events so that it allotted him enough time to shoot and the bridal party enough time to get ready, change locations, and regroup. As a result, I never felt rushed, Dan never seemed stressed, and our guests were never sitting around hungry and waiting for the bridal party to show up.From a technical standpoint, I was, and continue to be, amazed at the quality of Dan’s work. He has an eye for dynamic and interesting composition, and is remarkably great with lighting. In some of our shooting locations the lighting was admittedly terrible. Dan not only pulled it off, but made it look easy. This, to me, is how you know you’re working with a true professional. Dan also had to switch gears as we made a last minute call to move our outside wedding indoors because of rain. Again, this was no problem. Now, more than ever, it is becoming easier for amateur photographers to launch convincing-looking businesses with little or no real experience. I can whole-heartedly attest to the fact that Dan is the real deal, and he has the experience to know how to adjust to whatever challenges happen to arise. For the brides considering giving Dan a call, I encourage you to do it… as long as you can tame your inner bridezilla. More...
