TaekwonKids is such a fantastic school. If you have a child who has expressed interest in martial arts I couldn't more strongly recommend any place other than this to take them.  From day one, Master Scott and Instructor Cage take an immense amount of time getting to know your child and tailoring the lesson to their strengths and weaknesses. There is time spent as a group and each child gets individual instruction. Teaching children anything can be difficult, but they have mastered the art of delivering technique and instilling discipline in their students. We have been with TKK since Master Scott Sonu took over the Do-jang in Litchfield Park. We chose TaekwonKids because of the endless positive reviews on Yelp under the TaekwonKids school that Grand Master Scott lead in No. California with his brother. We are so glad we chose TKK. Grand Master Scott, Master Cage and Master William (who recently left for college) have been wonderful role models for our son these past 3 yrs. The self confidence, discipline and skills he has learned from his Masters at TKK has helped him not only in Taekwondo but in school and other sports that he participates in. TKK is Kukkiwon Certified and they often have high ranking Taekwondo martial artists fly in from Korea to teach the kids additional skills. We signed up our son here a little over a year ago, after visiting other martial arts schools in the area. My son's strength and confidence have improved so much since starting here, in such a short amount of time. Our son has been a student of this school for a few years now. Master Scott and his team of instructors have been truly amazing. What I appreciate the most is the amount of EFFORT that is required for the students here to succeed. I have seen many people simply go from White belt to Black belts in the matter of a year simply because the school gets them in and gets them out. Taekwonkids focuses on your child and ensures they have a deep and rich understanding of the martial arts. They must pass a series of tests only after qualifying to even test for the next color belt. The instructors show patience with all ages. There is a reason why this school seems to do very well in state and national competitions. I've been doing Taekwondo for almost 4 years and the experience and knowledge I have obtained under the new management at TaekwonKids is substantial. As a student, I enjoy learning under Grand Master Scott Sonu. Other than learning new techniques, he has taught me to be disciplined, self-confident, and a genuine person. We studied under him for years in California and we adored him so much that we planned our cross country trip to include two days at his new studio in Arizona - at our kids’ insistence! Master Scott provides the finest instruction for kids and families that we have encountered in any discipline since we began homeschooling a decade ago. My kids started with him in their Mountain View location and have since we traveled to Phoenix just to give our kids a chance to train with Master Scott and his staff. Taekwon Kids teaches the whole child with an unmatched zeal, professionalism and kindness that keeps the integrated goal of a strong mind, body and spirit firmly in focus. This is an update to my first review.  This used to be Elite Taekwondo and I was always happy with Master Ashley and her crew, we do miss her. That being said,  my GF and I are huge fans of Master Scott and his crew.  He is very disciplined and doesn't simply let kids get higher belts.  He actually requires them to increase knowledge, practice and show the ability to accomplish the moves.  Our son has show amazing improvement.  If you are looking for a place that will truly teach you true Taekwondo and require discipline, this is the place for you and your kids. TaeKwonKids Phoenix, ran by Grand Master Scott Sonu and his wife, is a Taekwondo school that is definitely going places. There is authentic discipline, tradition and development within the teachings of GM Scott's curriculum that you will not find anywhere else in the Phoenix area. The Masters who train our kids here are not fake or disingenuous. Their students in California are very successful and even GM Scott continues to improve his own Taekwondo skills every day - that is a true martial artist. I can only review Master Scott, not this studio. Master Scott recently branched off on his own after several years at a very successful taekwondo franchise in the Bay Area. Master Scott is  a gem - a practitioner who really feels passionately about taekwondo, a teacher who is a strong role model for his students, and someone who really cares about kids. My son greatly enjoyed his time with Master Scott and had a great experience learning taekwondo with him. My old hometown of Phoenix is so blessed & lucky that Taekwonkids opened up there. There's abundant reasons why Taekwonkids is already so successful in California. Taekwonkids has phenomenal teachers who care about their students and have an incredibly compassionate mission to help out their community--local & global! They actually follow through on their vision to help out underprivileged children throughout the world, through scores of sponsorships and innovative outreach events. Moreover, not only do they hire genuinely great people, but the instructors are true experts who help Taekwonkids students consistently win the most medals at serious TKD competitions. But what I truly appreciate more than competition statistics is the affect that Taekwonkids has at home & school too...so many of my friends' kids will agree that they teach TKD in a way where kids learn confidence, respect and grit, which translates to everything outside of TKD too! Member of the US Air Force. When I first started looking for a Tae Kwon Do school I was looking for skill, discipline, and an instructor who wasn't afraid to get loud when necessary. To tell me how i look and perform each day without beating around the bush. Instructor Ashley and Instructor Jake did just that. If I performed bad, they told me. If I was improving, they told me. With my schedule at work constantly changing, they worked with me financially and also put in a Saturday class to help me keep up with training when my job wouldn't allow the time for nights. I searched for other schools who provided different hours and I definitely found plenty. Although, NO ONE had the professionalism and commitment that these Instructors have for their students. Elite Taekwoondo is a Gold Nugget of caring love!!!  In addition to education, everyone there awesomely positive while providing love and encouragement with sincere smiles that warm your heart.  The directors are always involved in giving affectionate interest to each child every time they interface with them while establishing wonderful relationships with the families.  The lead teachers and assistants are professionals and always so polite and friendly!  This great team makes this the perfect place for my daughter, niece and nephew.  I definitely recommend this location as an alternate home away from home for them knowing that they are cared for individually, attentively, lovingly, safely, and in a professionally enriched educational atmosphere. Tae Kwon Do has changed so much over the last 15 years. I earned my black belt from Ernie Reyes back in '92 and although I learned a tremendous amount, found very little useful in the various other martial arts I studied. Yes, modern TKD is completely different then back 1992. Yes, it is more sport sport than martial art (at least here in the US). Yes, it is commercialized quite a bit (especially in the US). Yes, many schools hand out black belts like the Holiday Inn does robes. Is Elite TKD Academy just another one of those schools that will dress your kids up in fancy bright colored uniforms with multi-colored camo belts and teach them how to "defend" themselves? Elite TKD Academy is just that...an academy. It is where the best of the best call home. And if you or your kids want to truly be the best, this is the place to be. Master Ashley has developed a curriculum and teaching style that is all modern and emphasizes competition at all levels yet has its foundation in the roots of traditional TKD. All those trips to Korea has certainly rubbed off on Master Ashley and she has figured out a way to perfectly balance tradition and sport. Speaking of balance, the best part of the instruction at Elite is the style that Master Ashley and Instructor Jake employ. Emphasis on respect and focus, having a great time in class, and allowing students to learn at their own pace is their mantra...a far cry from the countless push-ups and constant verbal abuse the "old" generation considered prime instruction. This is why Elite is also so great for children. My 6 and 14 year old boys' listening skills have improved tenfold sans yelling. The discipline came naturally from within as once they got engaged, they wanted to listen, focus, and do well all on their own. Daily reminders from the instructors that their parents were to thank for bringing them to TKD also help to extend their learning into the home. This concept of being a TKD student no matter where you are was something that I never was exposed to when I was learning TKD.And because I'm a regular at Bargain-Hunters Anonymous, the best part of Elite is...(drum roll)... it's inexpensive! Okay...its down right cheap! I checked two other schools that offer far less instruction (three days a week, 45 min classes) and they were MORE expensive than Elite?!? So to recap, Elite TKD Academy has the best instruction at a city, state, national, and now world level for a reasonable price...what's not to love?!? More...

My kids have only been going here about 1 month but they LOVE it! They can't wait to go during the week. Not sure who Master Haydar is, as it seems there are different instructors now. This martial arts academy is fantastic! My daughter has been coming here for about 3 months, and has lost weight, become more flexible, and is now more focused in ALL of her activities, not just Tae Kwon Do. I'm very pleased with this school and seems very popular. Every week there are lots of children of various abilities. All the teachers are very kind and respectful. I like the fact that they aren't afraid to admonish the children if they aren't paying attention or being disrespectful.I definitely would recommend this martial arts studio! More...
