We were on a spur of the moment drive and turned into the place.  Plenty of options although if you really want a pie or cake you'll need to plan an advance call to order and then pick up.  We tried a delicious and perfect portioned for one key lime tart and a couple of macaroons.  The tart was delicious and would get again.  It was my first time trying a macaroon.  Interesting texture and flavoring.  I'm not sure if I loved it, but we liked it.  They were also beautiful. For the first time ever I tried their cream filled doughnut and it was out of this world. It is the best doughnut I've ever had. Awesome little bakery, plenty of items to choose from to satisfy that sweet tooth. This was the first time I've ever stopped here and the cherry strudel and the chocolate dipped chocolate chip sandwich cookie were both outstanding. I'll definitely be stoppin' back by here fo-sho. I love this place.  This isn't one of those hipster new bakeries that have trendy cupcakes and desserts.  This is what I would call homestyle baking, what you would expect from your grandma's place or your mom's house.  I love the simplicity and price of the red velvet cupcake.  The frosting was cream cheese but it was more like a butter cream cheese frosting to me.  It was still delicious.  I also tried their truffle chocolate chip cookie which was delicious it tasted like their was fudge in the center.  I want to go back and try their tarts and basic cupcakes. I am IN love with this bakery. I was at a sporting event last year and saw a line of people waiting to enter the building on a Saturday afternoon. Once I entered the actual building, I could see why. They had custom bakery birthday cakes for under $20, I didn't get their cakes but I did order a ton of cupcakes...at 2 dozen to take back home and let me tell you their cupcakes were just delicious. So delicious that I proactively strategize to find a way to stop in whenever I travel due south. And what was surprising is how affordable they are. I needed a custom graduation cake for my college graduation. I contacted several bakeries for prices and Sweet Shoppe offered the most reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and Ken did an amazing job with my cake. He walked me through the decorating process and told me exactly how pricing worked. Fantastic!  One of my Favorites!Birthday Cakes must be a specially here!  I used to get Birthday Cakes Here! One of my friends still gets one from here every year, (even though He lives 5 hours away) so I always look forward to his Birthday!  For many years I did not realize they make other Delicious Baked Goods here, like Pastries, Cup Cakes (tastes just like their Birthday Cakes) and Cream Horns!The Cream Horns are FAAAAT!  Yo can get Chocolate Cream or the White Cream!  I like both! I like the White better and my Fiancee likes the Chocolate cream filling better.The Icing is something really Special, maybe better that Butter Icing, maybe more like "Crisco" That's the Rumor anyway! I think the best thing here is the cheesecake.  It's not quite, Cheesecakes by Alex, however, it's delightful and creamy.  Not too thick and pasty .  I have had the cakes which I am not as impressed with.  (Based on appearance)  If you are going to an upscale event or want to give someone a cake that is 100% impressive and presentable, this is not your place.  If you are doing a backyard cook out and no one really cares, then come here and save some money.  You will spend twice as much, if not three times as much at Maxie B's.  (But, if you have read my review of Maxie B's then you know I think it's worth it)This place has a great staff and they try to help everyone with speed and agility.  If you come during the holidays be prepared to wait....!!  Parking here can sometimes be a problem but other than that, speedy in and out process. A friend picked me up mini pumpkin cheesecakes and what I will call a "chocolate bombe" for my birthday. The cheesecakes were creamy and delicious and screamed fall- not too sweet but sweet enough- perfect. The chocolate bombe was the most decadent thing I have eaten in my life- chocolate cake with a mound of white butter cream enrobed in chocolate. I refuse to buy birthday and special occasion cakes anywhere other than The Sweet Shoppe. Their buttercream is the perfect consistency and tastes wonderful every time. This is the best bakery in the world. I lived in High Point for 40 years until 1990 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. During our five years living in High Point, Sweet Shoppe was hands down my favorite place for cakes and yummies!! They did most of my son's birthday cakes, and the cakes always looked better than I expected, and they always tasted great. The shop smells like the icing that they use - I can't explain it, you just have to go! And if you are bargain hunting, check out the bottom rack near the door. This bakery has the best chocolate brownies I have ever eaten. They are so moist and just melt in your mouth. I also like their cakes and cookies. Every product that I have ever bought has been good, but the brownies just stand out with me. The employees have always been courteous and friendly and when I have placed a special order it has always been ready on time and done correctly including a cake that we had done with writing on the top of it for my husband's grandmother's birthday.
