I'll keep it simple--we had a great experience with Sweet Escape. We ordered a farm themed custom cake for our son's birthday as well as a smash cake for him. Both cakes were delicious and very well made. The custom cake was to a level of detail that was incredible. All guests were so impressed by the cake, and my wife and I could not have been happier with what we received. We started with some pics to give them an idea what we wanted, and they gave us something of such fine detail that we fell in love with. These folks are really talented, hardworking craftspeople whom deserve your business. We don't live near Indy, but we will always recommend them to friend and family for all cake needs. One thing I value in reviews of bakeries and cake shops is when a review lets me know if I can walk in and buy something to eat without pre-ordering. I can't tell you how many reviews I've read and they never mention it. Well, here is a place that you can walk out with treats!After moving to this shop location in Oct '18, this custom cake baking shop has a simple, relatively unadorned interior. After entering from their shared parking lot, there is a wall of cake styles they have prepared (they look fantastic!) on the left. A simple double display counter is in the middle and some additional items are on the right. I was greeted and chatted with the owner/baker about being able to walk in purchase. The only hitch is that you don't know exactly what will be available unless you a. pre-order; or b. stop in and check it out!Over on the left side of the counter are several kinds of cake pops (I picked a couple that were really good!). There were also hard frosted sugar cookies (mine were shaped like "Minion" faces), double coated chocolate oreos (emoji), and other items. Over on the right side were varieties of frosted cupcakes sold in 2-packs. I picked the peanut butter cupcakes which have chocolate cake topped and center shaft filled with a peanut butter mousse icing with crumbles on top. OMG! I just blew my diet completely, but it was so worth it! A must for PB lovers!Friendly staff, very reasonable prices for a bakery, and high quality finishes if you are thinking of ordering something for a special occasion. I can't say how their order prices are compared to other bakers in the area since I haven't hosted any events in a long time. WOW! I called on a Monday morning, normally closed on Mondays, the gentleman was so nice to me and my request. I had forgotten about my wife's birthday cake. She loves Carrot cake with Cream Cheese Icing. He offered to bake me a 10" 2 layer round carrot cake and have it ready in 2 hrs. This cake weighed a ton! I'm not big on Carrot cake but this one was over the top. The icing on the cake was by far true Cream Cheese Icing. Not the sugary stuff you normally get. He is a master at baking. They did AMAZING!! I ordered a grateful dead bus cake that I saw online and they went above and beyond anything I could've imagined! ! I will ALWAYS order my specialty cakes through them. This is the second cake I ordered from them and they have outdone themselves each time. The cake itself was extremely moist and 'tie dye' colors to go with the theme. It was delicious and the fondant was perfect, not too sweet like some ive had in the past. Great job. EVERYONE was impressed with the detail of the decoration and then even more so once we ate it. This post is 2 weeks late but I have to say what an amazing job Sweet Escape Cake Company did!!!! I emailed orders@indycakes. com after searching for cake decorators on Yelp. I received a reply the same day. I sent a photo & we talked over the phone. I made my deposit in person. I received a curtesy call on pick up day. I had only 15 minutes to get there before they closed. It rained so hard that day & I begged for them to wait for my arrival. He waited even after I went to their old location (shame on you, Google Maps). To make a long story short the cake turned out AMAZING!!! Everyone thought so & they weren't upset that they didn't get a chance to taste it. No one at the party wanted to ruin it. Scott and Amy were a dream team and helped me get a custom cake made (and delivered to the other side of town! ) for Pat McAfee's birthday in less than 24 hours. I was in dire need of a detailed cake for my child's 9th birthday, & found this business while searching hashtags on Instagram. I live on the edge, huh?I like to say so...Besides, I was very much impressed by the pictures I saw on their website (after I did my IG research).I emailed them about what I was in search of for his special day (space theme), & they gave me a very speedy response!I was asked to send pics of what I had in mind; so I sent my top three.I was given a quote for each one via email as well.I was expecting some crazy price, actually- surprisingly all quotes were within my budget!They do require a deposit (mine was $20 which was paid through PayPal), & you pay the other portion when you pick up your cake.They have a variety of cake flavors & fillings which do not cost extra, yay to that!I even asked them to incorporate my child's name into the theme of the cake, & they did a great job considering how many letters are in his name!A friend of mine picked up the cake, so I was I unable to see the actual bakery...but I just knew I had to give them this awesome review.They definitely have a new customer here, I was shocked at the fact no one had added their business! Egg-less Birthday Cake. My 1 year old daughter has a severe egg allergy, but we wanted to make sure that we still had a cake for her first birthday party/cake smash. Sweet Escape attempted to make everything egg-less (I wanted to just take the possibility of someone accidentally giving her "normal" cake out of the equation) for the entire party, but unfortunately could not get the larger cake to stay together. BUT, they literally tried everything they could to get that accomplished and I appreciate it so much. Additionally, they went through their baking/cleaning process with me on my daughter's egg-less cake and it put this now-neurotic momma's heart at ease. Although, large cake didn't work out in the end, my daughter's smash cake was egg-less and she dug right in and loved every minute of it. We love to be a small part of someone's special day. Creating a one of a kind creation for a once in a lifetime occasion.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I began in 2006 with a very bad Elmo cake for my youngest son's 1st birthday. I was so proud of it and dropped on the way into the venue. Luckily I had taken a few pics. I began dabbling, making things for friends and family and by 2008 I was regularly booked with orders. Over the years we have grown into a one stop shop of any sweets needs.
Why should our clients choose you?
We provide a HIGH QUALITY, GREAT TASTING PRODUCT, designed to your needs at an affordable price. At times, we have lost potential customers over having low prices as a few people have thought it means our product isn't great. We just don't believe that you should have to get a second mortgage on your house to have the cake of your dreams. We have made hundreds of wedding cakes (and do so annually) but weddings are only a small portion of our business. From walk in treats, to specialty desserts, to occasion cakes, to corporate needs, we do it all!
