Place: In a little strip mall right next to Cedar's bakery, so you can hop on over after getting some good savory treats! In a fairly convenient location also near other lebanese/arab places in the cityService: Quick and kind, watched the workers offer gift boxes for baklava and cookies if requested for nice presentation, and also let customers know that they could wait ~15 mins for freshly baked cake, which they did ! I also checked in and got a free pistachio baklava! I was also extremely thirsty coming in with an empty water bottle, and the worker kindly went to the back and filled my bottle for me.Food/price: I got the lebanese kenafa and osmalieh (ashta cream) for $3 each, simple syrup came on the side so you could control the sweetness level, which was nice. Cream and cheese inside the pastries was extremely fresh. There were probably 6 or 7 different variations of kenafa type desserts and I can't wait to go back and try the others! I also had the pistachio baklava, I never had one that had green puff pastry also and it was very good. I also had a chocolate and vanilla petit four, little cookies with jam filling. They were very soft and buttery.Audience: Anyone! It is focused on arabic desserts but there are also european style cakes (think fruit tarts, mocha cake, black forest, cake rolls, etc.)Recommend/tips: I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick sweet fix, a party favor, or dessert. There are all types of desserts and I can't wait to try their cakes (baklava cheesecake is supposed to be their specialty) and their mamoul. More...

My husband and I were in the mood forsweets and we luckily  stumbled across Susie's. They had a very large selection of middle eastern pastries and European style cakes and cookies.  I had a pastry with rose flavoring which was delicious.  I also tried some small pastries which were also delicious.   We so got several items to go also...all phenomenal. I am officially hooked on this bakery.   The only problem is there are too many good things to chose from. More...

I'm taking a star off because the tables were dirty.  In all fairness, the owner/manager whom I believe is Suzie came to clean the tables.  I believe many of the pastries are sold by the pound.  And you get a free sample of baklava when you check in using the Yelp app.  The baklava sample was tasty.  You order at the counter.  The bakery already has some pastries in small clear boxes ready to be bought.  I purchased something unconventional (not Middle Eastern.)  I bought a delicious slice of mocha cake.  It's delicious.  My sister swears by Suzie's other sweet goods.  I would buy a whole mocha cake if the opportunity arises.  By the way, the cake slice is very moderately priced at $3. Delicious and authentic lebanese desserts. The one I tried this time had a nice balance between sweet and savory with a soft back note of rose water and maybe orange blossom. However, their french cakes are overly sweet. I would get the pistachio again but the roll cake and the black forest both had that cloyingly sweet taste from too much syrup. For $2.75 a slice, you can't beat it but with so many other options, pass on these cakes. More...

Probably one of my favorite middle-eastern dessert place in Houston! The baklava options are endless! My favorite part of walking in is just seeing the family-run business in action. All of the items I have tried (baklava, Kanafa, biscuits) are always fresh. They have several types of baklava to chose from, including pistachio and walnut fillings. They even have a section of sugar-free baklava! The kanafas are even perfect for taking to-go since they come with a container of sugar syrup that you can open when you're ready to pour on top at home. There is so much love put into this bakery and you can just see it before you taste anything! Pricing is reasonable, most are sold by the pound. I always love being in the area so I have an excuse to come here! The staff is very nice and helpful and I have never had any issues with any requests. More...

I spoke with  the woman who owned the shoppe and Who also helped us out by explaining what all of the middle eastern sweets were. She told us she use to own a shop on westhiemer 9 years ago. She told me she had to stop because they were always SO BUSY. She said having a family and running a business was too much at the time. Now that her children are grown, her and her husband/family are able to run the pastry shoppe again. I can see why this place may have been so busy! We tried a couple of baklava with a check-in (walnut baklava). Was soooo amazing. She says everything is hand made. The knaffe is one of the best I have tried! I've eaten baklava in Greece, Turkey, Israel and various places around the U.S. Often, commercial bakeries stint on the nuts and butter and drown the pastry in syrup. The result is a sugary assault. Suzie's baklava, delicately sweetened in contrast, is some of the best I've ever had. You can taste and butter, rosewater and various nuts, lots of them, especially the pistachio, in every bite. Suzie also makes knafeh and date-filled cookies that are top notch. We buy the various baklava (at least a dozen different varieties) by the pound. But they never stay around our home for more than two days because they are so addictive. You can eat in but most of the customers take out. More...

After searching in vain for the baklava that is as delicious as the one I had in Istanbul, I finally found the one at Suzie's! The baklava here is certainly the most expensive I found (at $16 per pound), but it is also the best.A traditional Turkish dessert, baklava is a pastry that is composed of multiple layers of puff pastry with glazed syrup and crushed nuts in between layers. When done properly, a well-made baklava is a delightful combination of crispiness and softness with the balance between sweet and nutty tastes. While other baklava in Houston tend to be overly sweet or have too little nuts, Suzie's baklava hit that perfect spot! That means if you are craving or curious about this popular Turkish dessert but cannot make your way to Istanbul, you can travel just to Suzie's to get yourself some delicious baklava that is as good as the ones you may find under the shadow of Hagia Sophia! The lady who waited on me was so nice. She gave me several free samples, and recommended other things she thought I might like. Their little cookies are to die for. They are so tender, and delicious. They remind of the little Italian cookies I used to get in New Jersey. My only complaint is that I have lived here for six years and did not find this shop until today. The pastry cabinets are large and show the products nicely. I don't remember a menu on the wall and there were no prices on the products. I got a piece of cake that looked chocolate (no labels).  It tasted of coffee...it was good, but dry by the end of day. I also got a dozen assorted cookies for co-workers the next day. They were crumbly, buttery & had various flavors. Everyone enjoyed them! Yelp had a check-in coupon, so I got a free piece of baklava. I think that was the best item out of the whole purchase!
